The complex mycobiota that colonizes traditional fermented sausages plays an important role in the organoleptic properties of such products. The aim of the present study was to investigate fungal diversity and mycotoxin production during maturation of PGI Salame Piemonte.

However, the efficacy of these interventions may be reduced by the emergence of drug resistance-associated mutations (RAMs) and/or vaccine escape mutations (VEMs). We have assimilated data on the global prevalence and distribution of HBV RAMs/VEMs from publicly available data and explored the evolution of these mutations. We analysed sequences downloaded from the HBV Database and calculated prevalence of 41 RAMs and 38 VEMs catalogued from published studies. We generated maximum likelihood phylogenetic trees and used treeBreaker to investigate the distribution and estimated the age of selected mutations across tree branches. RAM M204I/V had the highest prevalence, occurring in 3.8% (109/2838) of all HBV sequences in our data set, and a significantly higher rate in genotype C at 5.4% (60/1102, p = 0.0007). VEMs had an overall prevalence of 1.3% (37/2837) and had the highest prevalence in genotype C and in Asia at 2.2% (24/1102; p = 0.002) and 1.6% (34/2109; p = 0.009), respectively. Phylogenetic analysis suggested that RAM/VEMs can arise independently of treatment/vaccine exposure. In conclusion, HBV RAMs/VEMs have been found globally and across genotypes, with the highest prevalence observed in genotype C. Screening for genotype and for resistance-associated mutations may help to improve stratified patient treatment. As NAs and HBV vaccines are increasingly being deployed for HBV prevention and treatment, monitoring for resistance and advocating for better treatment regimens for HBV remains essential.

The space comprised between tumor and neck lymph nodes (T-N tract) is one of the main routes of tumor spread in oral cavity tumors. Aim of the study was to investigate the impact of T-N tract involvement on the postoperative radiotherapy (PORT) outcomes.

Patients (pts) treated between 2000 and 2016 with indication to PORT were retrospectively retrieved. Inclusion criteria were (a) locally advanced tumors of the oral cavity, (b) who received with indication to PORT (c) with a minimum follow-up of six months.

One hundred and fifty-seven pts met the inclusion criteria (136 pts treated with PORT and 21 pts not treated with PORT). In the PORT cohort, the T-N tract involvement had no impact on both OS (p=.09) and LRFS (p=.2). Among the non-PORT cohort, both OS (p=.007) and LRFS (p=.017) were worse for pts with positive T-N tract compared to those with negative T-N tract. PORT improved both OS (p=.008) and LRFS (p=.003) in pts with positive T-N tract but not in those with negative T-N tract (p=.36 and p=.37, respectively).

Our results suggest that involvement of T-N tract should be considered as prognostic factors informing the indication to PORT.

Fluid overload (FO) in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients is associated with mortality. We explore if low daily sodium removal is an independent risk factor for mortality. We examined severely FO PD patients established for >1 year in expectation that PD prescription would have been optimized for solute clearance and ultrafiltration. We also wish to determine the relationship between kt/v and sodium removal.

Retrospective analysis of 231 PD patients with FO ≥2.0L and compared with 218 PD patients who were euvolaemic throughout their PD treatment. Patients were followed up until death censored for transplantation.

Mean daily sodium removal in overhydrated patients was only 75 mmoles (=1.7g). CAPD usage was more common in patients with the highest sodium removal. Achievement of UK guidelines for solute clearance and daily fluid removal were not independent predictors of mortality. Markers of sarcopenia (low serum albumin and high CRP) were associated with increased mortality, but these parameters were not independent predictors in a model that included functional assessment (Karnofsky score). Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a new infectious disease that has spread across the world and infected a large number of people many of whom have died. People with moderate to severe dementia are at very high risk of becoming infected as the disease mainly impacts on older people with other health problems and once infected the person with dementia is more likely to become seriously ill than other people. To prevent infection, people are required to wear masks and isolate from contact with others. It is believed that these measures can reduce the quality of life and general well-being of people with moderate to severe dementia in hospital or social care. This belief has not yet been demonstrated by research. WHAT DOES THIS PAPER ADD TO THE EXISTING KNOWLEDGE? We show that people with moderate to severe dementia receiving care on mental health hospital wards and subject to strict infection prevention measures can still achieve high levels of well-being. We show that mental a time of restrictions and the use of personal protective equipment. Results We report levels of well-being that are higher than might be expected alongside a change in the focus of psychological care delivered through mental health nursing interventions aimed at enhancing well-being. Discussion-We postulate that mental health nurses faced with an unprecedented challenge respond by changing practice to mitigate for infection prevention measures and to compensate for family absence. Implications for practice We suggest that the desirable enhancing actions by nursing staff which raise well-being in these hospital settings are readily transferable to other settings that are aiming to maintain well-being but also practising under COVID-19 restrictions.

Radiotherapy plus anti-PD-1 antibody as first-line therapy is safe and feasible in locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Tumor-infiltrating and peripheral lymphocytes were associated with patient survival. Further studies combining chemoradiotherapy with immunotherapy in locally advanced ESCC and exploration of predictive biomarkers are warranted.

We conducted a phase Ib study of radiotherapy plus programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) monoclonal antibody camrelizumab as first-line treatment for locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC).

We planned to enroll 20 patients with newly diagnosed locally advanced ESCC. Patients received 60 Gy radiation (2.0 Gy/fraction, 5 fractions/week), with camrelizumab (200 mg every 2 weeks) starting with radiotherapy and continuing for 32 weeks (i.e., for 16 cycles). The primary endpoints were safety and feasibility. Secondary endpoints were rates of radiologic and pathologic response, overall survival (OS), and progression-free survival (PFS).
