Mixed stain (stain with both colors) was observed in some tumor compartments, suggesting dual supply from 2 arterial systems and the presence of peritumoral anastomoses. All patients underwent preoperative embolization without complications.

CBCT fusion images clearly visualized the feeders from each arterial system, the vascular compartments within the tumor, and possible peritumoral anastomoses. This technique provides a substantial contribution to both preoperative embolization and surgical resection of skull base meningiomas.

Calvarial lymphoma is an exceedingly rare phenomenon; the clinical presentation and imaging pattern mimic many diseases of the central nervous system. Several treatment approaches have been undertaken with variable use of surgery plus adjuvant chemotherapy and radiation; an optimal treatment algorithm has yet to be defined. The aim of this study was to better characterize management strategies and patient outcomes.

An illustrative case was presented and a meta-analysis was carried out in accordance with Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis guidelines. MEDLINE and Embase were searched for cases of calvarial lymphoma. Outcomes between patients who underwent open surgery and biopsy only were compared directly.

In an analysis from 1976 to 2019, 62 patients with a median age of 60 were included. The most common presentations were subcutaneous scalp mass (89%), headaches (26%), and focal neurological deficits (21%). Osteolytic changes on computed tomography were seen in69% of pat a recurrence rate of 5%, which did not vary significantly from patients treated nonsurgically (remission in 75%, P = 0.479; recurrence in 0%, P = 1.000) CONCLUSIONS In patients presenting with a progressively enlarging scalp mass, calvarial lymphoma should be in the differential diagnosis, as it can be effectively managed with a biopsy followed by chemotherapy and radiation. The role for open surgery may be limited.Ant-hemipteran mutualism is one of the most frequently observed food-for-protection associations in nature, and is recently found to contribute to the invasions of several of the most destructive invasive ants. GDC-0994 ic50 Chemical communication underlies establishment and maintenance of such associations, in which a multitude of semiochemicals, such as pheromones, cuticular hydrocarbons, honeydew sugars and bacteria-produced honeydew volatiles mediate location, recognition, selection, learning of mutualistic partners. Here, we review what is known about the chemical communication between ants and honeydew-producing hemipterans, and discuss how invasive ants can rapidly recognize and establish a mutualistic relationship with the hemipterans with which they have never coevolved. We also highlight some future directions for a clearer understanding of the chemical communication in ant-hemipteran mutualism and its role in ant invasions.Interactions that shape parasitoid host ranges occur within the context of both host and parasitoid phylogenetic history. While host-associated speciation of parasitoids can lead to increased host specificity, it can also lead to a broadening of host range through radiation onto a new group of host species. In both cases, sister-species of parasitoids may have widely divergent host ranges. But how should host range be estimated? Traditional views of host ranges as simple lists of species have given way to analyses that can detect host phylogenetic signal. Host relatedness can also be codified into useful indices that reflect the phylogenetic breadth of host range. All of these considerations have important implications for biological control, particularly in the realm of risk assessment.Biomaterials capable of inducing immune responses with minimal associated inflammation are of interest in applications ranging from tissue repair to vaccines. Here we report the design of self-assembling randomized polypeptide nanomaterials inspired by glatiramoids, an immunomodulatory class of linear random copolymers. We hypothesized that peptide self-assemblies bearing similar randomized polypeptides would similarly raise responses skewed toward Type 2 immunity and TH2 T-cell responses, additionally strengthening responses to co-assembled peptide epitopes in the absence of adjuvant. We developed a method for synthesizing self-assembling peptides terminated with libraries of randomized polypeptides (termed KEYA) with good batch-to-batch reproducibility. These peptides formed regular nanofibers and raised strong antibody responses without adjuvants. KEYA modifications dramatically improved uptake of peptide nanofibers in vitro by antigen presenting cells, and served as strong B-cell and T-cell epitopes in vivo, enhancing immune responses against epitopes relevant to influenza and chronic inflammation while inducing a KEYA-specific Type 2/TH2/IL-4 phenotype. KEYA modifications also increased IL-4 production by T cells, extended the residence time of nanofibers, induced no measurable swelling in footpad injections, and decreased overall T cell expansion compared to unmodified nanofibers, further suggesting a TH2 T-cell response with minimal inflammation. Collectively, this work introduces a biomaterial capable of raising strong Type 2/TH2/IL-4 immune responses, with potential applications ranging from vaccination to tissue repair.

Radical lymphadenectomy is crucial in operations for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Usually pN1 and pN2 lymph nodes are affected consecutively (N1N2). Nevertheless, pN2 metastases may also occur in the absence of pN1 as skip-N2 metastases (N0N2). Here we compare the long-term survival of N1N2- and N0N2 patients.

464 patients underwent surgery for NSCLC at our institution between 2012 and 2017. We retrospectively reviewed data of pN2 stage patients (n=68). Patients with N1N2 (n=39) were compared to N0N2 (n=29) patients. 1-, 3-and 5-year survival rates were measured. Survival was assessed by Kaplan-Meier curves and the cox proportional hazards model was used to identify prognostic factors for overall survival. All patients received adjuvant chemoradiation therapy according to European guidelines.

The baseline characteristics did not differ between groups. We observed no differences in the histology, localization, or gender in our cohort. N0N2 patients showed significantly better 1- (N1N2 82.4% vs. N0N2 100%; p=0.
