Conditions mimicking infectious or sterile inflammation were evaluated in primary microglia cell cultures from newborn mice, using LPS (10 ng/mL) and TNF-α (100 ng/mL). The response to galectin-3 was tested alone or together with LPS or TNF-α. Supernatants were collected 24 h after treatment and analyzed for 23 inflammatory mediators including pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines usiivation in vitro. The aim of this study was to clarify the efficacy of early goal-directed renal replacement therapy (GDRRT) for treatment of cardiorenal syndrome (CRS) patients after acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF).

In the retrospective, observational study, we enrolled 54 patients in the early GDRRT group and 63 patients in the late GDRRT group. Baseline characteristics, clinical data at initiation renal replacement therapy time, and the clinical outcome were collected and several parameters were compared and analyzed between 2 groups.

The urine volume at GDRRT initiation time in the early group was higher than that in the late GDRRT group (1,060.3 ± 332.1 vs. 300.5 ± 148.3 mL, p < 0.001). To determine whether patients under long-term home noninvasive ventilation (LTHNIV) for chronic respiratory failure (CRF) were negatively affected by the 56-day confinement (March-April 2020).

A questionnaire-based survey exploring mood disturbances (HAD), symptom scores related to NIV (S3-NIV), and perception of health-care providers during confinement was sent to all patients under LTHNIV followed up by our center. Symptom scores and data obtained by ventilator software were compared between confinement and the 56 days prior to confinement.

Of a total of 100 eligible patients, 66 were included (median age 66 years [IQR 53-74]) 35 (53%) with restrictive lung disorders, 20 (30%) with OHS or SRBD, and 11 (17%) with COPD or overlap syndrome. Prevalence of anxiety (n = 7; 11%) and depressive (n = 2; 3%) disorders was remarkably low. Peritoneal protein loss (PPL) has been associated with mortality. Inflammation was assumed a putative cause with malnutrition as a consequence. Hydrostatic convection is a major drive for microvascular protein transport, but most studies in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients overlooked this mechanism. An association between peritoneal protein clearance (PPCl) and venous congestion has been reported recently. The aim of this study was to explore the importance of fluid overload in PPCl in PD.

Sixty-seven prevalent PD patients were assessed with peritoneal equilibration test and multifrequency bioelectrical impedance assessment (BIA). PPL and PPCl were calculated from simultaneously obtained 24-h peritoneal effluent.

PPL averaged 5.2 g/24 h. It was higher in patients on continuous treatment than in those without a long dwell. Significant associations between PPCl and BIA parameters of overhydration were found in both univariable and multivariable analyses. Lean mass index, partly dependent on hydration staon, especially focused on fluid status and avoidance of overhydration. The assumption of an association with inflammation and malnutrition was not confirmed.
