For the short-term, these gaps can be addressed by training lecturers in medical/clinical ethics, and identifying and utilising suitable reference materials, while long-term measures include developing context-appropriate materials for teaching, in addition to nurturing mentorship skills among lecturers for ethical role modeling.
The objective of retracting flawed publications is to maintain the integrity of scientific literature. Retractions in the dental literature have been on the rise in recent years. Hence, we aimed to review retracted articles related to dentistry.
A search was conducted of the MEDLINE database for retracted articles in the dental literature published between April 1, 1993 and March 31, 2020. The retracted articles and the notices of retraction were reviewed, and the findings are presented.
During the selected period, 143 articles were retracted. Redundant publication (n=50, 35%) was the most common reason for retraction, followed by plagiarism (n=43, 30.1%) and data manipulation (n=42, 29.4%). Around 70.6% (n=101) of retracted articles were original articles. Eight (5.6%) of the articles were single authored. The retracted articles have been cited by about 1300 publications, after the date of publication of the retraction notice. The gap between publication and retraction was longer for funded articles than for non-funded articles, and for articles retracted for data manipulation than for articles retracted for other types of misconduct. Twenty-one journals and nine authors retracted two or more papers. The majority of authors of retracted articles (224, 37%) were from India.
Our study showed that the retraction of publications due to misconduct such as duplicate publication, plagiarism, data manipulation is a matter of concern and calls for strict measures to curb the menace of research misconduct.

Specifically, sinusoidal (1D), checkerboard (C), and herringbone (H) patterns were fabricated by mechanical wrinkling of plasma-oxidized polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) bilayers and contrasted with flat (F) surfaces. Microbial deformation and orientation were found to correlate with the aspect ratio and commensurably with surface pattern dimensions and local pattern order. Significantly, the proliferation of P. aeruginosa could be described by a linear scaling between bacterial area coverage and available surface area, defined as a fraction of the line integral along each profile with negative curvature. However, in the early stages of proliferation (up to 6 h examined), that C and H patterns disrupt the spatial arrangement of bacteria, impeding proliferation for several hours and reducing it (by ∼50%) thereafter. Our findings suggest a simple framework to rationalize the impact of micrometer-scale topography on microbial action and demonstrate that multiaxial patterning order provides an effective strategy to delay and frustrate the early stages of bacterial proliferation. In a clinical trial registry, one determines whether a trial is registered prospectively or retrospectively by comparing the date of registration with the date on which enrollment started. However, in Clinical Trials Registry - India (CTRI), in addition, the top of each record is labelled with the phrase "Trial Registered Prospectively" or "Trial Registered Retrospectively". In examining CTRI records, we have found that (a) although retrospective registration has been disallowed from April 1, 2018, some trials were registered retrospectively; (b) in some cases, enrollment started after registration, even though they were labelled "Trial Registered Retrospectively", which is misleading; and (c) in some cases, the date of first enrollment was modified, changing a retrospective registration to a prospective one, although the label "Trial Registered Retrospectively" persisted. LY3473329 This, too, is misleading. The CTRI administration should take suitable steps to prevent late registration and mislabelling of trials regarding their registration status.Crossings between states involve complex electronic structures, making the accurate characterization of the crossing point difficult. In this study, the analytic derivatives of three complete active space second-order perturbation theory (CASPT2) variants as well as an extension of the restricted active space (RASPT2) are developed. These variants are applied to locating minimum energy conical intersections. Our results demonstrate that the three CASPT2 variants predict qualitatively similar results, but a recently developed variant, the rotated multistate CASPT2 (RMS-CASPT2), is least sensitive to the number of states considered in the calculation. We demonstrate that CASPT2 and the reference self-consistent field calculations predict qualitatively different energetics and bond lengths.Technology is not only changing the way doctors and patients communicate, but also how physicians interact with other healthcare providers. This interaction has increasingly begun to be over online media such as telemedicine networks/instant messaging apps/social media/emails. The Covid-19 pandemic has further spurred the rapid adoption of these digital healthcare technologies, amplifying the potential risks for data breach of sensitive personal information.Religious, economic, political, social, and cultural factors influence professional autonomy in nursing, and differ from country to country. The aim of this study was to explain barriers and facilitators of professional autonomy in the experience of clinical nurses. This qualitative study was conducted on 19 clinical nurses and nursing managers selected based on purposive sampling from January 2018 to December 2019. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, which continued until data saturation was reached. Conventional content analysis based on the Graneheim and Lundman approach was used to analyse the data. Data were categorised into 34 subcategories, 8 main categories, and two main themes, which were titled as facilitators of professional autonomy (professional, organisational, and individual factors, and effective communication) and barriers to professional autonomy (professional, organisational, and personal barriers, and inappropriate communications). The results discussed a set of facilitators and barriers faced by Iranian nurses in clinical settings. Professional organisations can play a key role by enhancing professional autonomy facilitators and increasing professional support for nurses. Another finding was the importance of training nursing staff to be competent and autonomous, beginning right from the college years.
To map the main characteristics of and differences between domestic violence and sexual assault cases presenting to a hospital emergency department in Australia.
This retrospective observational cross-sectional study presents a snapshot of domestic violence and sexual assault cases presenting to the emergency department of a regional tertiary Australian hospital between 1 January 2018 and 31 December 2018. Data were extracted from the health district electronic information system for all eligible females. All data were checked for completeness and discrepancies by researchers before analysis.
42/105 (40%) sexual assault cases and 27/56 (48%) domestic violence cases reported mental health issues. More than half of the sexual assault and domestic violence cases had recurrent presentations to emergency department (51%; 54/105% and 52%; 29/56, respectively); most injuries were classed as severe. 92/105; 88% of sexual assault and 41/56; 73% of domestic violence victims were referred to related services.
Clinical health staff, particularly those working in emergency department, can play crucial roles in identifying cases of domestic violence and sexual assault. Domestic violence training for clinicians and routine domestic violence screening in hospital emergency department is recommended to enhance early intervention.

The COVID-19 pandemic caused an abrupt change in the pattern of communication involving patients, family members, and healthcare professionals. This study aimed to evaluate family member satisfaction with intensive care units (ICU) care and communication strategies during the COVID-19 pandemic. Secondary objectives included identification of areas requiring improvement, and assessment of the impact of both COVID-19 diagnosis and in-person visits on overall satisfaction.
A prospective, observational single-center study was conducted among family members of ICU patients admitted between March and September 2020. During this period, ICU visiting policies suffered changes, ranging from full restrictions to eased limitations, which impacted ICU communication procedures and patient contact with family members. Three months after ICU discharge, the designated family members of patients were contacted and invited to fill in a questionnaire that assessed family satisfaction using a Likert response scale.
There ws far as we know, performed in the Portuguese population. The overall satisfaction levels were similar to the estimates found in previous studies. A lower degree of satisfaction with information consistency was found in family members who had in-person visits, possibly related with heterogeneity of senior doctors delivering information. COVID-19 diagnosis was not associated with decreased satisfaction.

Analytical and spectroscopic studies were used to determine the structural features. An octahedral structure with moderate distortion was attributed to the above metal chelates based on spectroscopic data. The distorted octahedral geometry of copper(II) complex to DNA (Kb = 4.05 × 105 M-1) is stronger than that of ethidium bromide (EB) to DNA (Kb = 3.2 × 105 M-1), other metal complexes, respectively. The synthesised 1,10-Phenanthroline derivative had the best inhibitory effects against acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase, with IC50 values of 0.45 and 3.6 M, respectively, which were lower than the reference molecules. As a result, nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds (H2L) showed significant inhibitory profiles against the metabolic enzymes.
