We administered a monthly online survey between May and November 2020 to adolescent and young adult females participating in a longitudinal study at Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center. Surveys asked about death of loved ones, financial impacts, social interactions, exposure to dangerous situations, and mental health impacts. Differences in responses by age, race/ethnicity, and living situation were assessed, and compared to data obtained on the same cohort prior to the pandemic.

Four hundred seventeen females aged 15-28years completed at least one survey, 94% of whom were youth of color. A third of responders (33%) had lost relatives or other people they were close to (loved ones). Most (68%) reported one or more financial losses, and 21% reported food insecurity, with those not living with parents or a guardian experiencing significantly higher rates. One in 10 reported experiencing sexual abuse or interpersonal partner violence during the "shelter in place" period. Over a third (37%) reported symptoms of clinical depression, which represented a significant increase compared to before the pandemic (p= .01). The negative financial impacts and higher proportion of patients with depressive symptomatology remained elevated for adolescents without support at home.

The aim of this study is to examine levels of COVID-19 stress among Asian youth-compared to white youth-in a Canadian sample, and whether this stress is moderated by a sense of belonging derived from access to contextual (spiritual, cultural, educational) resources.

Data are from a longitudinal study of youth in Alberta, Canada. Participants were those who identified as Asian/Southeast Asian (n= 202) or White (n= 772). Data were collected at three waves. Measures included COVID-19 stress, the Child and Youth Resilience Measure-28 Contextual subscale, and demographics. Data were analyzed using multivariate regression.

Overall at Wave 3, Asian youth reported significantly higher COVID-19 stress than white youth. In moderation analyses, Asian youth who reported higher Wave 1 Child and Youth Resilience Measure-28 Contextual scores also reported higher Wave 3 COVID-19 stress.

The main goal of this study is to present a literature review of the deployed methods of medical image processing in the context of the COVID-19 crisis. S. anginosus 47S1 strain was isolated from sore throat infection, the whole genome was characterized and the virulence & AMR genes contributing in pathogenicity were investigated.

A rat model of AFLD was established and treated with altered miR-181b-5p, PIAS1 or PRMT1 expression constructs to identify their effects on liver function, serum inflammation, liver tissue oxidative stress, hepatocyte apoptosis and pathological changes of liver tissue in rats using a series of assays. miR-181b-5p, PIAS1 and PRMT1 levels were detected, and the targeting relationship between miR-181b-5p and PIAS1 was confirmed.

MiR-181b-5p and PRMT1 were elevated while PIAS1 was reduced in AFLD rat liver tissues, miR-181b-5p inhibition, PIAS1 overexpressionor PRMT1 inhibition improved liver function, attenuated inflammation, oxidative stress, pathological changes and hepatocyte apoptosis in AFLD rat liver tissues. Microglial cells are the main category of macrophages in the CNS parenchyma, and they represent one of the most important cellular drivers and regulators of neuroinflammation. In this study, nine new organoselenium compounds based on the hybridization of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) skeleton and organoselenium motif (-SeCN and -SeCF3) were synthesized and their potential anti-neuroinflammatory effects were evaluated using LPS-induced BV2 mouse microglia. The cells were first treated with the organoselenium compounds and the extent of oxidative stress and inflammatory response of the cells was determined by measuring the levels of NO, ROS, IL-1β, and IL-18. Among the nine compounds, 1-39 and 1A-38 exhibited the most significant effect on oxidative stress and inflammatory response. Subsequent studies carried out with 1-39 and 1A-38 showed that both compounds could reduce the production of ROS in the cells, probably through down-regulating NOX2 and its downstream targets, including TXNIP (thioredoxin-interacting protein) and NLRP3 (NOD-like receptor protein 3).
