In this study, action of enzymes was maximum with xylanase/pectinase dose 7/1.75 IU/g, pulp consistency 112.5 g/L, pH 8.5, temperature 50° C and 180 min of treatment time. The concentrations of copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) and as well as a battery of enzymatic and non-enzymatic biomarkers were measured in mussels before and after the transplantation period. Furthermore, analysis of trace metals was performed on the surface layer of the sediment of all the sites. A significant increase in the Cu and Pb concentrations in the mussel dry tissues was observed after the transplantation period and followed the order of metal contamination of the surface layer sediments, indicating a relationship between the bioaccumulation of metals and their bioavailability at each site. Unlike those of Cu and Pb, Cd and Zn concentrations did not reach significant levels of bioaccumulation at any of the three study sites. The biomarker response results were complementary to the measured metal concentrations in the mussel tissues and were associated with the metal accumulation index. Recently, the uses of cool pavements to reduce the pavement temperature as an urban heat island mitigation have gained momentum. Understanding the temperature and solar insolation of a pavement in an urban area is important to adopt the right cool pavement option for the right place. This study measured the temperature of paved streets in an urban mockup for 4 days in summer. It is found that east-west (EW) streets are the hottest place in an urban area, followed by the intersection, and finally the south-north (SN) street and that increasing the pavement's albedo reduces the pavement temperature effectively. The dark gray pavement in an open space is hotter than that in an urban canyon. The heat storage in the building blocks keeps the pavement warmer more than 2 °C at nighttime. The EW street is exposed to solar insolation for long hours, so it is suitable for preferentially developing reflective cool pavements.Mercury (Hg) is a persistent and dangerous heavy metal with genotoxic properties. Echinacea purpurea L. is a well-known therapeutic plant with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-tumor properties. In this study, multi-protective role of Echinacea purpurea L. extract against toxicity caused by mercury(II) chloride (HgCI2) on Allium cepa L. investigated in a multifaceted way. As a consequence of 100 mgL-1 HgCI2 administration, root elongation, weight increase, germination rate, and mitotic index were reduced, whereas micronucleus frequency, chromosomal abnormalities frequency, meristematic cell injuries severity, malondialdehyde level, catalase, and superoxide dismutase activity were increased. On the other hand, co-administration of increasing doses of E. purpurea extract (265 mgL-1 and 530 mgL-1) and HgCI2 gradually alleviated all observed toxic effects of HgCI2.
