Acccurate identification whether red tide has ithyotoxicity is very significant for microalgae monitoring. In order to realize the rapid and non-destructive detection of ichthyotoxic red tide algae, a detection method combining three-dimensional (3D) fluorescence spectrum and particle swarm optimization support vector machine (PSO-SVM) was developed to monitor the ichthyotoxic red tide algae with cell concentrations from 104 cells/mL to 106 cells/mL. The contour maps contracted form three-dimensional fluorescence spectra of six common species of ichthyotoxic algae and eight common species of non-ichthyotoxic algae, which are analyzed to select the optimal emission and excitation wavelength span. The new feature data are acquired by using the emission spectrum data at 480 nm and 510 nm excitation wavelengths. The new feature data are used as the input of particle swarm optimization support vector machine to establish the optimal classification model of ichthyotoxic algae, which achieves an classification accuracy of 100% for the test set. The optimal classification model is successfully applied to identify the ichthyotoxicity of different algae including Heterosigma akashiwo, Chattonella marina, Phaeocystis globosa, Prorocentrum donghaiense, Karenia dunnii, Isoscelina galbana, Isosceles globosa and Skeletonema costatum.Nano-drug delivery systems may potentially overcome current challenges in the treatment of Parkinson's disease (PD) by enabling targeted delivery and more efficient blood-brain penetration ability. This study investigates novel gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) to be used as delivery systems for L-DOPA and dopamine by considering their binding capabilities in the presence and absence of a model protein, bovine serum albumin (BSA). Four different AuNPs were prepared by surface functionalization with polyethylene glycol (PEG), 1-adamantylamine (Ad), 1-adamantylglycine (AdGly), and peptidoglycan monomer (PGM). Fluorescence and UV-Vis measurements demonstrated the strongest binding affinity and L-DOPA/dopamine loading efficiency for PGM-functionalized AuNPs with negligible impact of the serum protein presence. Thermodynamic analysis revealed a spontaneous binding process between L-DOPA or dopamine and AuNPs that predominantly occurred through van der Waals interactions/hydrogen bonds or electrostatic interactions. These results represent PGM-functionalized AuNPs as the most efficient at L-DOPA and dopamine binding with a potential to become a drug-delivery system for neurodegenerative diseases. Detailed investigation of L-DOPA/dopamine interactions with different AuNPs was described here for the first time. Moreover, this study highlights a cost- and time-effective methodology for evaluating drug binding to nanomaterials.Stable conformers of neutral balenine were scanned through molecular dynamics simulations and energy minimizations using Allinger's MM2 force field. For each of the found minimum-energy conformers, geometry optimization and thermochemistry calculations were performed by using B3LYP, MP2, G3MP2B3 methods, 6-31G(d), 6-311++G(d,p) and aug-cc-pvTZ basis sets. The calculation results have indicated that balenine has about twenty stable conformers whose relative energies are in the range of 0-9.5 kcal/mol. Three of these are thought to provide the major contribution to matrix isolation IR spectra of the molecule. Our solvent calculations using the polarized continuum model revealed the stable zwitterion structures which are predicted to dominate IR spectra of balenine in water and heavy water (D2O) solvents. Pulay's SQM-FF method was used in scaling of the harmonic force constants and vibrational spectral data calculated for the neutral and zwitterion structures. These refined calculation data together with those obtained from anharmonic frequency calculations enabled us to correctly interpret the matrix isolation IR spectrum of balenine and the tautomerism-based changes observed in its KBr IR and solution (D2O) IR spectra. The results revealed the crucial role of conformation and zwitterionic tautomerism on the structure and vibrational spectral data of the molecule. The quality of wheat kernels is critical to ensure crop yields. However, in actual breeding work, unsound kernels are scarce compared to healthy kernels. TRC051384 supplier Limited data sets or unbalanced data sets make it difficult for many algorithms to accurately identify kernels in different states. A novel method based on deep convolutional generative adversarial network (DCGAN) and near-infrared hyperspectral imaging technology was proposed to identify unsound wheat kernels in this paper. Three classifiers, convolutional neural network (CNN), support vector machine (SVM) and decision tree (DT) were used. After expanding the samples, the results showed that the accuracy of the test set of the DT model increased from 51.67% to 80.83%, a total increase of 29.16%. And the CNN and SVM models increased by 8.34% and 14.17% respectively. This demonstrated that the DCGAN method had the ability to generate reliable data samples for unbalanced data sets for improving the performance of the classifier. On this basis, the training samples are further expanded for improving the performance of the classifier. The results showed that CNN model gained the most from incremental data, and its accuracy rate had been continuously improved from 79.17% to 96.67%, a total increase of 17.50%. This also demonstrated that the DCGAN method had the ability to expand a limited data set. In general, the joint model based on DCGAN and CNN combined with hyperspectral imaging technology had a good prospect in the identification of unsound kernels. We describe for the first time the displacement mechanism of migratory testis in Nyctinomops laticaudatus, which is little known in bats, in addition to histological analysis of its gonads. Data on testis anatomy and activity were obtained from 20 males. Males had migratory testes as they are displaced in the inguinal canals between intra and external abdominal positions. The displacement mechanism consisted of a testis ligament composed mainly of smooth muscle tissue attached to the cranial pole of the testis. Since the epididymis is closely tied to the testis, both organs are displaced together, regardless of the individual reproductive condition. Males and females showed seasonal monoestry, with a short mating period at the beginning of the dry season. The occurrence of breeding males was inversely proportional to rain and air temperature. At the mid-dry season, when air temperatures are also lower, males showed testis regressing, remaining in a reproductive hiatus for several months (rest/recrudescence) until the beginning of in the next dry season. Pregnant females were captured at the end of the dry season, and the birth of the young occurred during the rainy season, a time of greater food availability. Thus, females coordinated their reproductive phases to a more favorable period of the year for their survival and that of the offspring. Males associated their spermatogenic activity to a time of no environmental nor physiological restriction related to low air temperature.In-situ bioremediation of mangrove soil contaminated with polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polystyrene (PS) microplastics was investigated using indigenous microbial consortium with adequate capacity to degrade the plastics. Eight (8) bacteria were isolated from plastic/microplastic-inundated mangrove soil and screened for the ability to degrade PET and PS microplastics. Optical density at 600 nm and colony forming unit counts were measured to evaluate the growth response of the microbes in the presence of PS and PET microplastics at different times of exposure. Structural and surface changes that occurred post biodegradation on the microplastics were determined through EDS and SEM analysis. The obtained results demonstrated the elongation and disappearance of peaks, suggesting that the microbial consortium could modify both types of microplastics. The overall results of the microplastic degradation showed varied degrees of weight loss after 90 experimental days, with the treated plot recorded 18% weight loss. The augmented soil was increased in the concentrations of Si S, and Fe and decreased in the concentrations of C, O, Na, Mg, Al, Cl, and K after bioremediation.Waste generated due to mining activity poses a serious issue due to the large amounts generated, even up to 65 billion tons per year, and is often associated with the risk posed by its storage and environmental management. This work aims to review waste management in the mining industry of metals ores, coal, oil and natural gas. It includes an analysis and discussion on the possibilities for reuse of certain types of wastes generated from mining activity, and discusses the benefits, disadvantages and the impact of waste management on the environment. The article presents current methods of waste management arising during the extraction and processing of raw materials and the threats resulting from its application. Furthermore, the potential methods of mining waste management are discussed through an in-depth characterization of the properties and composition of various types of rocks. The presented work addresses not only the issues of more sustainable management of waste from the mining industry, but also responds to the current efforts to implement the assumptions of a circular economy, which is aimed at closing the loop. The methods of recycling by-products and treating waste as a resource more and more often not only meet environmental expectations, but also become a legal requirement. In this respect, the presented work can serve as a valuable support in decision-making about waste management. There has been an absence of consideration regarding measurement invariance across males and females in the widely available Dark Tetrad (DT) scales which measure psychopathy, Machiavellianism, narcissism and everyday sadism. This has resulted in criticisms of the measures, suggesting that the assessed constructs are not wholly relatable between the groups. This article documents the construction and validation of the Dark Side of Humanity Scale (DSHS), which measures dark personalities from an alternative viewpoint, determined by the constructs as they emerged from the male and female data, whilst aligning with theory and attaining invariance between sex. Across four samples (n = 2409), using a diverse range of statistical methods, including exploratory graph analysis, item response theory and confirmatory factor analysis, a divergence from the widely available DT measures emerged, whereby primary psychopathy and Machiavellianism were unified. This corroborated past research which had discussed the two constructs as being parallel. It further supported the DSHS with a shift away from the traditional DT conceptualisation. The resulting scale encompasses four factors which are sex invariant across samples and time. The first factor represents the successful psychopath, factor two addresses the grandiose form of entitlement, factor three taps into everyday sadism whilst the fourth factor pertains to narcissistic entitlement rage. Construct and external validity of the DSHS across two samples (n = 1338), as well as test-retest reliability (n = 413), was achieved. The DSHS provides an alternative approach to investigating the dark side of human nature, whilst also being sex invariant, thus making it highly suitable for use with mixed sex samples.
