Scaling and dimensional analysis is applied to networks that describe various physical systems. Some of these networks possess fractal, scale-free, and small-world properties. The amount of information contained in a network is found by calculating its Shannon entropy. First, we consider networks arising from granular and colloidal systems (small colloidal and droplet clusters) due to pairwise interaction between the particles. Many networks found in colloidal science possess self-organizing properties due to the effect of percolation and/or self-organized criticality. Then, we discuss the allometric laws in branching vascular networks, artificial neural networks, cortical neural networks, as well as immune networks, which serve as a source of inspiration for both surface engineering and information technology. Scaling relationships in complex networks of neurons, which are organized in the neocortex in a hierarchical manner, suggest that the characteristic time constant is independent of brain size when interspecies comparison is conducted. The information content, scaling, dimensional, and topological properties of these networks are discussed.Entropy, the key factor of information theory, is one of the most important research areas in computer science [...].Due to the existence of marine environmental noise, coupled with the instability of underwater acoustic channel, ship-radiated noise (SRN) signals detected by sensors tend to suffer noise pollution as well as distortion caused by the transmission medium, making the denoising of the raw detected signals the new focus in the field of underwater acoustic target recognition. In view of this, this paper presents a novel hybrid feature extraction scheme integrating improved variational mode decomposition (IVMD), normalized maximal information coefficient (norMIC) and permutation entropy (PE) for SRN signals. Firstly, the IVMD method is employed to decompose the SRN signals into a number of finite intrinsic mode functions (IMFs). The noise IMFs are then filtered out by a denoising method before PE extraction. Next, the MIC between each retained IMF and the raw SRN signal and PE of retained IMFs are calculated, respectively. selleck chemical After this, the norMICs are used to weigh the PE values of the retained IMFs and the sum of the weighted PE results is regarded as the classification parameter. Finally, the feature vectors are fed into the particle swarm optimization-based support vector machine multi-class classifier (PSO-SVM) to identify different types of SRN samples. The experimental results have indicated that the classification accuracy of the proposed method is as high as 99.1667%, which is much higher than that of other currently existing methods. Hence, the method proposed in this paper is more suitable for feature extraction of SRN signals in practical application. With the development of credit businesses, privacy data leakage and data accuracy in loan transactions among different banks tend to be worrisome issues hindering the prosperity of the industry. To address the problem, we propose a blockchain-based cross-bank over-loan prevention (CBOL-ring) mechanism, which ensures that, on the one hand, the plaintext of loan transactions cannot be access to neither participants on the nodes except the bank that handles loan/repayment requests, so as to prevent the borrower from loaning without revealing their privacy data; on the other hand, the other participants are able to prove the effectiveness of the plaintexts through checking the ciphertexts on the blockchain. In addition, we propose a blockchain-based cross-bank over-loan prevention mechanism with low communication volume (CBOL-bullet), which reduces the size of the range proof generated by the BBCBOLP mechanism, thereby reducing the size of the communication volume and saving resources during the data transmission process. Finally, we analyze the security and performance of the two mechanisms, and compare the communication volume of the two mechanisms.Among all the methods of extracting randomness, quantum random number generators are promising for their genuine randomness. However, existing quantum random number generator schemes aim at generating sequences with a uniform distribution, which may not meet the requirements of specific applications such as a continuous-variable quantum key distribution system. In this paper, we demonstrate a practical quantum random number generation scheme directly generating Gaussian distributed random sequences based on measuring vacuum shot noise. Particularly, the impact of the sampling device in the practical system is analyzed. Furthermore, a related post-processing method, which maintains the fine distribution and autocorrelation properties of raw data, is exploited to extend the precision of generated Gaussian distributed random numbers to over 20 bits, making the sequences possible to be utilized by the following system with requiring high precision numbers. Finally, the results of normality and randomness tests prove that the generated sequences satisfy Gaussian distribution and can pass the randomness testing well.Dynamic correlation is the correlation between two time series across time. Two approaches that currently exist in neuroscience literature for dynamic correlation estimation are the sliding window method and dynamic conditional correlation. In this paper, we first show the limitations of these two methods especially in the presence of extreme values. We present an alternate approach for dynamic correlation estimation based on a weighted graph and show using simulations and real data analyses the advantages of the new approach over the existing ones. We also provide some theoretical justifications and present a framework for quantifying uncertainty and testing hypotheses. This article proposes the utilization of the concepts of destroyed exergy and exergy efficiency for equipment and process performance indicators that are related to the current energy planning scenario in Brazil, more specifically with energy-efficiency labelling. Several indicators associated with these concepts are discussed, including one national program that is based on labeling the energy efficiency of several residential, commercial and industrial appliances. The grades are indicated in the equipment using values from A to G. This labeling system is useful for discriminating similar technologies used for the same function; nevertheless produced by different enterprises. For this complementary analysis, two types of refrigeration methods were compared, absorption and vapor compression; however, these energy indexes alone are not sufficient parameters to select among these two technologies, because their performance indexes definition are different. To address this, our research considers the second law suggest an exergy based index. The energy efficiency suggests that electrical shower (values higher than 95%) are better than gas water heaters (83% ) in using natural resources, whereas the exergy efficiency shares similar magnitudes (about 3%). A related pattern is shown for the theoretical air conditioning systems. The vapor compression systems have an energy index higher than 3, and absorption systems lower than 1. For these circumstances, the exergy efficiency shows figures nearby 30%.The stock market is a complex system with unpredictable stock price fluctuations. When the positive feedback in the market amplifies, the systemic risk will increase rapidly. During the last 30 years of development, the mechanism and governance system of China's stock market have been constantly improving, but irrational shocks have still appeared suddenly in the last decade, making investment decisions risky. Therefore, based on the daily return of all a-shares in China, this paper constructs a dynamic complex network of individual stocks, and represents the systemic risk of the market using the average weighting degree, as well as the adjusted structural entropy, of the network. In order to eliminate the influence of disturbance factors, empirical mode decomposition (EMD) and grey relational analysis (GRA) are used to decompose and reconstruct the sequences to obtain the evolution trend and periodic fluctuation of systemic risk. The results show that the systemic risk of China's stock market as a whole shows a downward trend, and the periodic fluctuation of systemic risk has a long-term equilibrium relationship with the abnormal fluctuation of the stock market. Further, each rise of systemic risk corresponds to external factor shocks and internal structural problems.I shall introduce a complex, apparently unique, cross-disciplinary approach to understanding consciousness, especially ancient forms of mathematical consciousness, based on joint work with Jackie Chappell (Birmingham Biosciences) on the Meta-Configured Genome (MCG) theory. All known forms of consciousness (apart from recent very simple AI forms) are products of biological evolution, in some cases augmented by products of social, or technological evolution. Forms of consciousness differ between organisms with different sensory mechanisms, needs and abilities; and in complex animals can vary across different stages of development before and after birth or hatching or pupation, and before or after sexual and other kinds of maturity (or senility). Those forms can differ across individuals with different natural talents and environments, some with and some without fully functional sense organs or motor control functions (in humans hearing, sight, touch, taste, smell, proprioception and other senses), along with mes' observation that all known forms of consciousness must have been products of biological evolution in combination with other influences, attempts to provide (still tentative and incomplete) foundations for a proper study of the variety of biological and non-biological forms of consciousness, including the types of mathematical consciousness identified by Kant in 1781.Recent discretization-based feature selection methods show great advantages by introducing the entropy-based cut-points for features to integrate discretization and feature selection into one stage for high-dimensional data. However, current methods usually consider the individual features independently, ignoring the interaction between features with cut-points and those without cut-points, which results in information loss. In this paper, we propose a cooperative coevolutionary algorithm based on the genetic algorithm (GA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO), which searches for the feature subsets with and without entropy-based cut-points simultaneously. For the features with cut-points, a ranking mechanism is used to control the probability of mutation and crossover in GA. In addition, a binary-coded PSO is applied to update the indices of the selected features without cut-points. Experimental results on 10 real datasets verify the effectiveness of our algorithm in classification accuracy compared with several state-of-the-art competitors. Some established and also novel techniques in the field of applications of algorithmic (Kolmogorov) complexity currently co-exist for the first time and are here reviewed, ranging from dominant ones such as statistical lossless compression to newer approaches that advance, complement and also pose new challenges and may exhibit their own limitations. Evidence suggesting that these different methods complement each other for different regimes is presented and despite their many challenges, some of these methods can be better motivated by and better grounded in the principles of algorithmic information theory. It will be explained how different approaches to algorithmic complexity can explore the relaxation of different necessary and sufficient conditions in their pursuit of numerical applicability, with some of these approaches entailing greater risks than others in exchange for greater relevance. We conclude with a discussion of possible directions that may or should be taken into consideration to advance the field and encourage methodological innovation, but more importantly, to contribute to scientific discovery.
