Altered oxysterol levels have been described in patients with numerous neuropsychiatric disorders. Recent studies have shown that Bipolar disorder (BD) is associated with the disruption of cholesterol metabolism. The present study was aimed at investigating the profile of oxysterols in plasma, their ratio to total cholesterol and their association with clinical parameters in patients with BD. Thirty three men diagnosed with BD and forty healthy controls matched for age and sex were included in the study. Evaluate the real-world accuracy of Myxovirus resistance protein A (MxA) detected by the rapid, point-of-care FebriDx test during the second-wave pandemic in Italy in patients with acute respiratory infection (ARI) and a clinical suspicion of COVID-19.

Prospective, observational, diagnostic accuracy study whereby hospitalized patients with ARI were consecutively enrolled in a single tertiary care center in Italy from August 1, 2020 to January 31, 2021.

COVID-19 was diagnosed in 136/200 (68.0%) patients and Non-COVID-19 was diagnosed in 64/200 (32.0%) patients. COVID-19 patients were younger and had a lower Charlson comorbidity index compared to Non-COVID-19 patients (p < 0.001). Concordance between FebriDx, MxA and rt-PCR for SARS-CoV-2 (gold standard) was good (k 0.93, 95% CI 0.87-0.99). Overall sensitivity and specificity were 97.8% [95% CI 93.7-99.5] and 95.3% [95% CI 86.9%-99.0%], respectively. FebriDx demonstrated a negative predictive value of 95.3% (95% CI 86.9-99.0) for an observed disease prevalence of 68%.

To develop and validate a clinical score that will identify potential admittance in an intensive care unit (ICU) for a coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) case.

The clinical scoring is built using Least Absolute Shrinkages and Selection Operator logistic regression. The prediction algorithm was constructed and cross-validated using the development cohort of 313 COVID-19 patients and was validated using independent retrospective set of 64 COVID-19 patients.

Majority of patients are Omani in nationality (n=181, 58%). Multivariate logistic regression identified 8 independent predictors of ICU admission that were included in the clinical score hospitalization (OR, 1.079; 95% CI, 1.058 - 1.100), absolute lymphocyte count (OR, 0.526; 95%CI, 0.379- 0.729), C-reactive protein (OR, 1.009; 95%CI, 1.006-1.011), lactate dehydrogenase (OR, 1.0008; 95%CI, 1.0004-1.0012), CURB-65 score (OR, 2.666; 95%CI, 2.212-3.213), chronic kidney disease with estimated glomerular filtration rate of less than 70 (OR, 0.249; 95%CI, 0.155-0.402), shortness of breath (OR, 3.494; 95%CI, 2.528-6.168), and bilateral infiltrates in chest radiography (OR, 6.335; 95%CI, 3.427-11.713). To assess the antibody and viral kinetics in asymptomatic/mild confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infections compared to more severe patients.

Retrospective analysis of data obtained from adult patients with a confirmed SARS-CoV2 infection having at least one SARS-CoV-2 pair of specific IgM/IgG tests, admitted in The University Hospital of Infectious Diseases Cluj-Napoca, Romania (28 February to 31 August 2020). The database also included demographic, clinical, chest X-ray and/or CT scan results, RT-PCR SARS-CoV-2, and dexamethasone treatment. A total of 469 patients were evaluated as "asymptomatic/mild" and "moderate/severe/critical" cases.

The median time since confirmation to SARS-CoV-2 PCR negativity was 15 days [95% CI 13-18] in asymptomatic/mild cases and 17 days [95% CI 16-21] in moderate/severe ones. The median time to seroconversion for both IgM and IgG was 13 days [95% CI 13-14] in asymptomatic/mild cases and 11 days [95% CI 10-13] in moderate/severe ones. For both antibody types, the highest reactivity was significantly associated with more severe presentation (IgM OR = 10.30, IgG OR = 7.97).

The aim of this study was to evaluate the QIAstat-Dx® Respiratory SARS-CoV-2 Panel (QIAstat-SARS-CoV-2), which is a closed, fully automated, multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay that detects severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and 21 other pathogens that cause respiratory disease.

Nasopharyngeal swabs from patients with or suspected of having coronavirus disease 2019 were collected and tested at Bichat-Claude Bernard Hospital, Paris, France. Using the World Health Organisation-approved real-time-PCR assay developed by the Charité Institute of Virology as the reference, positive percent agreement (PPA) and negative percent agreement (NPA) were calculated.

In total, 189 negative and 88 positive samples were analyzed. QIAstat-SARS-CoV-2 had an NPA of 90.48% (95% confidence interval (CI), 85.37%, 94.26%) and a PPA of 94.32% (95% CI, 87.24%, 98.13%). Co-infections were detected by QIAstat-SARS-CoV-2 in 4/277 specimens. The methods exhibited comparable failure rates (23/307 [7.5%] vs. 6/298 [2.0%] for QIAstat-SARS-CoV-2 and reference methods, respectively). The turnaround time was shorter for QIAstat-SARS-CoV-2 compared with the reference method (difference in mean -1430 h [standard error, 00323; 95% CI, -1437, -1424]; P < 0.001).

To determine if viable virus could be isolated from the air within a car driven by a patient infected with SARS-CoV-2, and to assess the size range of the infectious particles.

We used a Sioutas personal cascade impactor sampler (PCIS) to screen for SARS-CoV-2 in a car driven by a COVID-19 patient. The patient, who had only mild illness without fever or cough and was not wearing a mask, drove the car for 15 min with the air conditioning turned on and windows closed. The PCIS was clipped to the sun-visor above the front passenger seat and was retrieved from the car two hours after completion of the drive.

SARS-CoV-2 was detectable at all PCIS stages by PCR and was cultured from the section of the sampler collecting particles in the 0.25-0.50 μm size range.

This review briefly discusses specific diets and dietary strategies, compensatory mechanisms acting against weight loss, recent changes to Food and Drug Administration approved antiobesity medications, and technological advances in weight management delivery.
