Species Distribution Modeling (SDM) is a tool commonly used to assess drivers of species range, but can be applied to models of recreational fishing in complex environments, at a scale relevant to regulatory bodies. Using point-data from 573 visual surveys with recently developed Poisson point process models, we examine the recreational fishery in Australia's busiest estuarine port, Sydney Harbour. We demonstrate the utility of these models for understanding the distribution of boat and shore-based fishers, and the effects of a range of temporally static (geographical) and dynamic (weather) predictors on these distributions.Biohazard performance of Sr radionuclide can be significantly magnified by its release from the contaminated sedimentation. In this study, hydroxyapatite nanoparticle-functionalized activated carbon electrode (AC-HAP) was synthesized and stacked to the cathode compartment of the electrokinetic (EK) system to develop a unipolar three-dimensional (3D) electrochemical process for Sr2+ removal from spiked soils. Sr2+ adsorption by AC-HAP can be fitted by the pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order kinetic models and the Langmuir, Freundlich, and Temkin isotherm models. The largest monolayer adsorption capacity of AC-HAP of 69.49 mg g-1 was evaluated in the pH range of 10-12 and at 40 °C. 3D EK further intensified the adsorption process of AC-HAP and the corresponding Sr2+ removal from aqueous environments. Voltage gradients and proposing time had a significant effect on the migration and transmission of Sr2+ in the electrolyzer. The influence of competitive ions on Sr2+ removal in the stock solutions followed Al3+ less then Mg2+ less then K+ less then Na+ less then Ca2+ while followed Al3+ less then Na+ less then K+ less then Mg2+ less then Ca2+ in 3D EK. The first three cycles for AC-HAP had taken roughly 50% of the reusability percentage. Sr2+ removal from spiked samples in 3D EK was achieved by acid dissolution, electromigration, and selective uptake on particle electrode. There is an increasing trend of developing various low-cost grafted natural amino polysaccharides for the biosorptive removal of noxious dye effluents like Malachite green (MG) and anionic Reactive Red-195 (RR-195) dyes from aqueous solution. Chemically cross-linked chitosan microsphere (CTS-HMP), a promising non-toxic biosorbent possessing high charge density and thermal stability was prepared by using hexametaphosphate as ionic cross-linker. Batch biosorption experiments were carried out under different temperatures (298, 308 and 318 K), pH (2.0-10.0), initial concentrations (25-250 mg L-1), adsorbent dosage (0.01-0.1 g) and contact times (0-180 min) to understand the optimum experimental conditions and simultaneously evaluate the adsorption isotherms and kinetics of CTS-HMP. Biosorption equilibrium was established in 120 and 60 min for MG and RR-195 removal process. The pseudo-equilibrium process was best described by the pseudo-second-order kinetic (R2 ≥ 0.98), Freundlich and Temkin isotherm model (R2 ≥ 0.90). The removal rate of MG and RR-195 gradually increased (69.40 and 148 mg g-1) at 250 mg L-1 of initial concentration till 100 and 50 min of contact period in a single contaminant system, though the removal efficiency of acid dye was ~2 times higher compared to basic dye under optimum conditions (p less then 0.05; t-test). Thermodynamic parameters indicated exothermic (MG) and endothermic (RR-195) nature of spontaneous dye removal. The activation energy of sorption (Ea) was less then 50 kJ mol-1 which highlighted the importance of physical adsorption process. Therefore, the obtained results clearly validate the sustainable utilization of CTS-HMP as a promising functionalized chitosan microparticles/agent for removing dye effluents from the contaminated aqueous phase. When disaster strikes, urban planners often rely on feedback and guidance from committees of officials, residents, and interest groups when crafting reconstruction policy. Focusing on recovery planning committees after Japan's 2011 earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear disasters, we compile and analyze a dataset on committee membership patterns across 39 committees with 657 members. Using descriptive statistics and social network analysis, we examine 1) how community representation through membership varied among committees, and 2) in what ways did committees share members, interlinking members from certain interests groups. This study finds that community representation varies considerably among committees, negatively related to the prevalence of experts, bureaucrats, and business interests. Committee membership overlap occurred heavily along geographic boundaries, bridged by engineers and government officials. Engineers and government bureaucrats also tend to be connected to more members of the committee network than community representatives, giving them prized positions to disseminate ideas about best practices in recovery. This study underscores the importance of diversity and community representation in disaster recovery planning to facilitate equal participation, information access, and policy implementation across communities. Thanks to increasing urban development, it has become important for municipalities to understand how ecological processes function. In particular, urban wetlands are vital habitats for the people and the animals living amongst them. This is because wetlands provide great services, including water filtration, flood and drought mitigation, and recreational spaces. As such, several recent urban development plans are currently needed to monitor these invaluable ecosystems using time- and cost-efficient approaches. Accordingly, this study is designed to provide an initial response to the need of wetland mapping in the City of St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador (NL), Canada. Specifically, we produce the first high-resolution wetland map of the City of St. (S)-Glutamic acid John's using advanced machine learning algorithms, very high-resolution satellite imagery, and airborne LiDAR. An object-based random forest algorithm is applied to features extracted from WorldView-4, GeoEye-1, and LiDAR data to characterize five wetland classes, namely bog, fen, marsh, swamp, and open water, within an urban area. An overall accuracy of 91.12% is obtained for discriminating different wetland types and wetland surface water flow connectivity is also produced using LiDAR data. link2 The resulting wetland classification map and the water surface flow map can help elucidate a greater understanding of the way in which wetlands are connected to the city's landscape and ultimately aid to improve wetland-related conservation and management decisions within the City of St. John's.Thermal processes for the treatment of faecal sludge such as pyrolysis or combustion offer complete destruction of pathogens, whilst allowing for energy and nutrient recovery. The development of such processes is currently constrained by a lack of knowledge on thermally relevant faecal sludge characteristics. This study investigated thirty faecal sludge samples from three sanitation technologies (ventilated improved pit latrines (VIP), urine diverting dry toilets (UD), septic tanks (ST)) and compared these by non-parametric statistical analysis. A focus was placed on parameters necessary for thermal process development and recoverable nutrient concentrations. The relevant characteristics ranged widely within technology groups. Calorific values and ash concentrations of 2.1-25.7 MJ/kg and 9.5-88.4% were observed for STs, of 9.2-13.9 MJ/kg and 40.9-61.5% for VIPs and of 3.9-18.1 MJ/kg and 18.8-81.3% for UDs. These two parameters show a strong linear inverse correlation and determine the minimum dewatering requiand scaled approaches.Marine ecosystems are undergoing major transformations due to the establishment and spread of Non-Indigenous Species (NIS). Some of these organisms have adverse effects, for example by reducing biodiversity and causing ecosystem shifts. Others have upsides, such as benefits to fisheries or replacing lost ecological functions and strengthening biogenic complexity. Stopping the spread of NIS is virtually impossible and so the societal challenge is how to limit the socioeconomic, health, and ecological risks, and sustainably exploit the benefits provided by these organisms. We propose a move away from the notion that NIS have only negative effects, and suggest a turn towards an Ecosystem-Based Fishery Management approach for NIS (EBFM-NIS) in the Mediterranean Sea, the world's most invaded marine region. A structured, iterative, and adaptive framework that considers the range of costs and benefits to ecosystems, ecosystem services, and fisheries is set out to determine whether NIS stocks should be managed using stem services, and help to meet the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 14 Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development.

The aim of this study is to determine the effectiveness of coblation midline glossectomy for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) when used as an isolated procedure. We also aim to compare the effect of this surgical procedure on supine and non-supine apnea.

The medical records of patients who underwent isolated tongue base surgery as a part of step-wise surgeries between January 2014 and February 2019 are retrospectively reviewed. Pre-operative and post-operative Epworth sleepiness score (ESS), body mass index (BMI), and polysomnographic data, including the apnea-hypopnea index (AHI), oxygen desaturation index (ODI), supine AHI, and non-supine AHI of the patients were compared.

The study included 29 patients (26 male and 3 female). link3 AHI improved significantly, decreasing from 34.9 ± 20.9 to 25.8 ± 17.6. Supine AHI decreased from 62.55 ± 28.23 to 55.18 ± 31.67 post-operatively, but this decrease was not significant. Non-supine AHI decreased significantly from 22.49 ± 24.02 to 14.08 ± 17.46. ESS and ODI also improved significantly.

Coblation midline glossectomy is an effective surgical procedure when applied solely, with a success rate of 52%. Non-supine apnea benefits to a greater degree than supine apnea from this surgical procedure.

Electroneurography (ENoG) was conducted with no response at the right FN, as compared with the left FN (0%). We performed a biopsy of the right middle ear mass and histological studies showed the tumor to be neuroendocrine tumors (NET) of the middle ear. We resected the tumor with canal wall down mastoidectomy and reconstructed the posterior meatal wall with soft tissue. Three months after surgery, the FN paralysis had improved with House-Brackmann grade II. We reviewed cases of NET with FN palsy, and nine patients, including our case, have been reported. Our case is the first report of ENoG for the description of FN palsy due to NET. Although the ENoG value was 0%, it was remarkably improved by surgery. The other cases of NET patients with FN palsy also recovered FN function after surgery. These results suggest that it is recommended to perform the total resection of the tumor to improve the FN function.
