tial reduction in burden is underway. A similar approach conducted for Italy pre-and post-intervention also begins to suggest a substantial reduction in both infected and deaths has been achieved, showing the efficacy of drastic social distancing interventions. By last we show the real evolution of the pandemic up to the end of May and the beginning of July in order to calculate the real confinement rate from data to compare with the scenarios formulated at March. The COVID-19 pandemic has seen a surge of health misinformation, which has had serious consequences including direct harm and opportunity costs. We investigated (N = 678) the impact of such misinformation on hypothetical demand (i.e., willingness-to-pay) for an unproven treatment, and propensity to promote (i.e., like or share) misinformation online. This is a novel approach, as previous research has used mainly questionnaire-based measures of reasoning. We also tested two interventions to counteract the misinformation, contrasting a tentative refutation based on materials used by health authorities with an enhanced refutation based on best-practice recommendations. We found prior exposure to misinformation increased misinformation promotion (by 18%). Both tentative and enhanced refutations reduced demand (by 18% and 25%, respectively) as well as misinformation promotion (by 29% and 55%). The fact that enhanced refutations were more effective at curbing promotion of misinformation highlights the need for debunking interventions to follow current best-practice guidelines.Cell culture processes are used to produce the vast majority of protein therapeutics, valued at over US$180 billion per annum worldwide. For more than a decade now, these processes have become highly productive. To further enhance capital efficiency, there has been an increase in the adoption of disposable apparatus and continuous processing, as well as a greater exploration of in-line sensing, various -omic tools, and cell engineering to enhance process controllability and product quality consistency. These feats in cell culture processing for protein biologics will help accelerate the bioprocess advancements for virus and cell therapy applications.Globally, Indigenous populations experience a disproportionately higher burden of disease related to substance use. Effective prevention of harm related to substance use is a key strategy for improving the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia. To inform preventative approaches, this review synthesised the evidence of risk and protective factors of substance use and related harms among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Eight peer-reviewed and two grey literature databases were systematically searched for quantitative or qualitative studies assessing factors associated with substance use and related harms among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, published between 1 January 1990 and 30 April 2018. Study quality was assessed using validated instruments. Risk or odds ratios were extracted or calculated and factors were summarised in an ecological model into individual, relationship, community, societal or culturally-distinct levels. Thirty-eight relevant studies were identified and reviewed. Individual-level risk factors for substance use were identified including low socio-economic status, high psychological distress, poly drug use and being male. Relationship-level factors were peer pressure and partner/family substance use; protective factors were supportive environments and positive role models. Community-level risk factors included availability of substances. Culturally-distinct factors included cultural connection as a protective factor, but cultural obligations around sharing was a risk factor. Societal risk factors included intergenerational trauma caused by government policies. These findings highlight the importance of tailored preventative approaches for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities that address identified risk factors and promote protective factors across all ecological levels.Colorectal cancer (CRC) and cardiovascular diseases (CVD) share several risk factors. We examined the relationships between CRC screening and CVD history by race/ethnicity and sex. CDK inhibitor Data from 15 states across the United States with high age-adjusted CVD rates from the 2012-2016 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System were used to examine prevalence of self-reported screening for CRC among 179,276 adults ages 50-75 years with and without history of CVD. Multivariable logistic regression was used to evaluate the association between socio-demographics and CRC screening in the expansion and stable phases of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) era. Prevalence of CRC screening was high among those with history of CVD. After multivariable adjustment, Whites and Hispanics with CVD had 19% (95%[CI] 1.13-1.26) and 50% (95%[CI] 1.10-2.06) higher odds for CRC screening, respectively, versus those without CVD. Individuals in both sexes with CVD had higher odds for CRC screening compared those without CVD. Strikingly, the odds for CRC screening in Hispanics with history of CVD were 72% higher in the stable phase of the ACA era for the fully adjusted model. Whites and Hispanics with history of CVD are more likely to undergo CRC screening, perhaps due to greater exposure to the healthcare system due to CVD. This association was not observed in Blacks. Interventions are needed to improve CRC screening rates among Blacks, especially due to their well-documented higher risk of CVD.The strict nationwide lockdown imposed in India starting from 25th March 2020 to prevent the spread of COVID-19 disease reduced the mobility and interrupted several important anthropogenic emission sources thereby creating a temporary air quality improvement. This study conducts a multi-scale (national-regional-city), multi-species, and multi-platform analysis of air pollutants and meteorological data by synergizing surface and satellite observations. Our analysis suggests a significant reduction in surface measurements of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) (46-61 %) and fine particulate matter (PM2.5) (42-60 %) during the lockdown period that are also corroborated by the reduction in satellite observed aerosol optical depth (AOD) (3-56 %) and tropospheric NO2 column density (25-50 %) data over multiple cities. Other species, namely coarse particulate matter (PM10) (24-62 %), ozone (22-56 %) also showed a substantial reduction whereas carbon monoxide (16-46 %), exhibited a moderate decline. In contrast, sulfur dioxide (SO2) levels did not show any defined reduction trend but rather increased in Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata.
