BACKGROUND Autologous fat is known for a reliable and natural safety profile, but complications do occur - even serious vascular adverse events. DUS examination was performed for pre-procedural vascular mapping and imaging of previously injected (permanent) fillers. In addition, the injection of autologous fat was performed DUS-guided. RESULTS Twenty patients (all female; mean age, 57.9 years; range, 35-64 years). DUS examination showed that sixteen out of the 20 patients (80%) had been injected with resorbable or non-resorbable fillers elsewhere in the past. link2 The temporal artery could be visualized and avoided in all cases. An average of 1.1 cc of autologous fat was injected in the temporal fossa per side. One case of edema and nodules was described, but no other adverse events were reported. CONCLUSIONS The use of duplex-ultrasound can add valuable information to a lipofilling procedure. We performed a meta-analysis of follow-up studies to systematically evaluate the influence of statin use on clinical outcome in HCC patients. METHODS Studies were obtained via systematic search of PubMed, Cochrane's Library, and Embase databases. RESULTS Nine retrospective cohort studies were included. link2 Overall, statin use was associated with a reduced all-cause mortality in HCC patients (risk ratio [RR] 0.81, 95% CI 0.74 to 0.88, p 0.05). click here Moreover, statin use was associated with reduced HCC-related mortality (RR 0.78, p = 0.001) in overall patient population and HCC recurrence in patients after curative therapies (RR 0.55, p less then 0.001). CONCLUSIONS Satin use is associated with reduced mortality and recurrence of HCC. These results should be validated in prospective cohort studies and randomized controlled trials. They play important roles in the regulation of biological processes, such as immune response or cell differentiation and as possible evolutionary precursors for protein coding genes. House dust mites (HDMs) are recognized as allergenic mites because allergens are found in their feces and bodies. Dermatophagoides farinae is one of the most important pyroglyphid mites because of its abundance in the household. To determine if lincRNAs can regulate allergen presentation in HDMs, we analyzed RNA-seq data for HDMs. We identified 11 lincRNAs that are related to mRNAs coding for allergens in HDMs. Using qRT-PCR, we amplified 10 lincRNAs and their putative target allergen-encoding mRNAs, confirming expression of these lincRNAs and allergen genes. The results suggest that lincRNAs might be involved in the regulation of allergen production in HDMs and might represent potential acaricidal candidates to inhibit mite allergen production.Despite the richness of species in the Hirudinidae family, little is known about the genome organization of swallows. The Progne tapera species presents genetic and morphological difference when compared to other members of the same genus. Hence, the aims of this study were to analyze the chromosomal evolution of three species Progne tapera, Progne chalybea and Pygochelidon cyanoleuca - by comparative chromosome painting using two sets of probes, Gallus gallus and Zenaida auriculata, in order to determine chromosome homologies and the relationship between these species. All karyotypes exhibited 76 chromosomes with similar morphology, except for the 5th, 6th and 7th chromosome pairs in P. link2 cyanoleuca. Additionally, comparative chromosome painting demonstrated the same hybridization pattern in the two Progne, which was similar to the putative avian ancestral karyotype, except for the centric fission in the first pair, as found in other Passeriformes. Thus, these data display a close relationship between the Progne species. Although P. cyanoleuca demonstrated the same fission in the first pair of the ancestral syntenic (GGA1), it also showed an additional chromosomal rearrangement for this species, namely a fusion with a microchromosome in the seventh pair.OBJECTIVES to analyze the prevalence of symptoms and their relationship with the quality of life of cancer patients. link3 METHODS this is a cross-sectional study with 107 patients evaluated using a sociodemographic instrument, the hospital anxiety and depression scale (HADS) and the quality of life scale (EORTC-QLQ-C30). RESULTS prevalence of female patients (56.1%), 55 years as the mean age and 10 years of schooling. Fatigue (76.6%), insomnia (47.7%), pain (42.1%), loss of appetite (37.4%), anxiety (31.8%) and depression (21.5%) were identified. Anxiety and depression symptoms presented a negative correlation with quality of life and positive correlation with physical symptoms. CONCLUSIONS fatigue, insomnia, pain and loss of appetite were the most common and most intense symptoms. So far, ICTTs have been observed with various organic compounds, while inorganic materials are almost limited to titanium oxides such as TiO2. Although SERS via ICTTs has been reported with several kinds of inorganic semiconductors, their ICTT bands have not been observed directly except for TiO2. From these viewpoints, the direct observation of ICTT bands in inorganic semiconductors other than TiO2 is an important issue. In this study, we demonstrate ICTTs in ZnO induced by the adsorption of aromatic thiols. ICTTs take place from the HOMO of the adsorbed thiol compounds to the conduction band of ZnO via a Ti-S linkage. Notably, ZnO selectively shows ICTTs with aromatic thiols, but almost no ICTT with oxygen-linkage-type organic compounds such as phenol. In addition, the wide-range control of ICTTs was achieved by the chemical modification of aromatic thiols. Our research not only opens up a new way for the research of ICTTs but also supports the reported ICTT-based SERS in ZnO.The aim of this featured article is to illustrate some of the most recent applications of deep eutectic solvents (DESs) in the synthesis of carbon and carbon composites. DESs can be obtained by the complexation of quaternary ammonium salts with hydrogen-bond donors. DESs have typically been referred to as a related class of ionic liquids because they share many properties. However, DESs present the advantage of easier and low-cost preparation. Moreover, their compositional flexibility can eventually be translated into materials that provide advanced functionalities and/or tailored hierarchical structures. Interestingly, the use of the liquid binary mixtures of DESs and H2O for the preparation of carbon materials plays a critical role with regard to the achievement of some particular porous morphologies. Herein, we will also summarize some recent studies performed on DES/H2O liquid binary mixtures, revealing the possibility of obtaining new eutectic mixtures upon the simple addition of water to DESs while keeping the DES contents at a certain pseudo-concentrated range. This finding will pave the way to novel applications, especially in those fields in which the preparation of high-tech products via low-cost processes is critical. Our results allow us to clarify the dependence of the multiple emission bands on the polarity of the solvent and on the substitution of electron donating and accepting groups to the salicylaldimine core.
