Melatonin is a safe medication with multiple uses in sleep medicine for the treatment of circadian rhythm disorders, insomnia, and REM sleep behavior disorder. In view that melatonin has been recommended as an adjuvant treatment in COVID-19 pandemic mainly due to its anti-inflammatory properties, the objective of the present study was to evaluate the history of COVID-19 infection and the requirement of hospitalization in a group of adult patients previously treated with melatonin for various sleep disorders.

This is a retrospective cross-sectional study of data from a closed population of 110 adult patients at a University Hospital treated with melatonin for various sleep disorders, analyzed until the onset of COVID-19 pandemic. Demographic and melatonin-related variables (dose, treatment time) were analyzed and were reevaluated during the pandemic period, by scheduled tele-consultation regarding diagnosis, hospitalization requirements, variables related to COVID-19 infection prior to specific vaccinationthose not infected. The patients in general were mostly older adults, treated with a mean dose greater than 40 mg / day of melatonin for various sleep disorders, mainly for complaints of insomnia, for more than 12 months. The results are consistent with a possible preventive effect of melatonin in the COVID-19 pandemic.

The aims of this research have been to characterize the cognitive profiles (s) in hypertensive patients and to identify the most usefulness Test (s) in the routine clinical practice to identify them.

We assessed the cognitive status in 69 hypertensive patients who were administered a battery of cognitive Tests that included the MMSE, the Mini-Boston Naming Test, verbal fluency and the Clock drawing Test.

The average of the sample was 72.2±10.1 years. The Clock-drawing Test and the Mini-Boston Naming Test differentiated 3 cognitive profiles no cognitive impairment, minor cognitive disorder and major cognitive disorder. A strong association was observed between the semantic (0.87) and executive (0.75) components of the Clock-drawing Test with the Mini-Boston Naming Test (0.96). The analysis of clusters and switchings in the verbal fluency Test differentiated the severe forms of cognitive impairment.

The results obtained confirm the value of the Clock-drawing Test to identify the different cognitive profiles in hypertensive patients, becoming a valid screening test to be used in routine clinical practice and a potential biomarker of cognitive dysfunction in hypertensive patients.

In the last years, 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose PET/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT) has demonstrated its utility for the evaluation of immunoglobulin G4 (IgG4)-related disease (IgG4RD). The studies are, however, really heterogeneous and different. The aim of this review is, therefore, to analyze the diagnostic performance of 18F-FDG PET and PET/CT for the assessment of IgG4RD.

A wide literature search of the PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Embase and Cochrane library databases was made to find relevant published articles about the diagnostic performance of 18F-FDG PET or PET/CT for the evaluation of IgG4RD.

The comprehensive computer literature search revealed 779 articles. On reviewing the titles and abstracts, 756 articles were excluded because the reported data were not within the field of interest. Twenty-three studies were included in the review.

The study's purpose was to compare the effects of buspirone (BUS) and fluoxetine (Flx) on social isolation-induced behavior deficits in rats. The male Wistar rats were randomized into six groups and caged individually for 14 days except for the non stress control (nSC) group. They were then divided into the following groups, stress control (SC), Flx (30), BUS (10), BUS (20) and BUS (40) and treated from day 14 to day 28. On the last day of treatment behavior parameters were recorded. Serum cortisol, blood pressure (BP) measurement, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the rat's brain and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) expression were performed. SC group showed a significant increase in anger-like emotion, aggression, irritability score, learned helplessness, increased cortisol level and reduced BDNF. These behavioral deficits were attenuated by BUS and Flx, Both were found to be equally beneficial in preventing anger-like emotions and aggression. Flx, which has been found to promote suicidal thoughts in people, did not reduce irritability in rats, showing that it did not affect it. BUS significantly improved all behavioral traits also reduced cortisol levels, significantly increased BDNF and normalized BP. Neuroimaging studies in SC brains showed a reduction in amygdala size compared to nSC, BUS treatment mitigated this reduction. J Strength Cond Res XX(X) 000-000, 2022-Kinesiotaping (KT) is common in musculoskeletal rehabilitation, but whether it is efficacious for surgically untreated anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) ruptures is unknown. Therefore, we evaluated whether a strategy of physiotherapy plus KT would be superior to a strategy of physiotherapy alone on subsequent proprioception and motor function. Men aged 28.1 ± 6.7 years with complete ACL ruptures were randomized to either a control (physiotherapy) or an experimental group (physiotherapy + KT) for a 4-week period. Changes in balance were assessed on the injured leg using a force platform. Knee angle reproduction, maximal voluntary contraction (MVC), and rate of force development (RFD) were measured using dynamometry, and pain was recorded using a visual analog scale. Decreases in knee pain and imps demonstrated increased isometric knee flexor MVC and RFD values (p less then 0.05), but an increase in RFD of the knee extensors was observed only in the experimental group (p less then 0.05). Furthermore, the MVC of concentric knee flexors at 60°·s-1 increased only in the experimental group (p less then 0.05), whereas concentric MVC at 180°·s-1-resulting in greater hamstring-to-quadriceps ratios-increased in both groups (p less then 0.05). Balancing ability on the injured leg increased only in the experimental group (p less then 0.05). Thus, KT plus physiotherapy was beneficial in the treatment of proprioception, strength, and static balance in these individuals with an ACL rupture.

J Strength Cond Res XX(X) 000-000, 2022-This study aimed to report seasonal variations for (a) physical performance, (b) interlimb asymmetry, and (c) bilateral deficit (BLD) data over the course of a competitive soccer season and determine which metrics are sensitive to change. This study used a repeated-measures observational design for 19 under-20, elite, academy, soccer players (age 17.58 ± 0.61 years; height 1.81 ± 0.09 m; body mass 74.36 ± 7.58 kg), who conducted bilateral and single-leg countermovement jumps (CMJ and SLCMJ), linear speed (5, 10, 20, and 30-m) and 505 change of direction (COD) speed tests, at pre, mid, and end of season time points. For jump tests, jump height, reactive strength index modified, time to takeoff, and countermovement depth metrics were monitored,BLD also calculated for each. Significant improvements (p less then 0.05) in performance were evident in all fitness tests CMJ (effect size [ES] 0.61 to 1.03), SLCMJ (ES 0.60 to 2.25), linear speed (ES -0.54 to -1.96), and COD speed (ES -0.68 to -1.14). Significant reductions in asymmetry (ES -0.68 to -1.07) and significant increases in the BLD (ES 1.15 to 1.57) were also evident throughout the season. Additionally, kappa coefficients were used to determine consistency in limb dominance throughout the season, but only poor to fair levels of agreement (kappa -0.17 to 0.37) were evident, highlighting the fluctuating nature of limb dominance throughout the season. Despite all tests exhibiting meaningful change, the SLCMJ and linear speed showed the most frequent and largest differences in performance, highlighting their usefulness in the ongoing monitoring process of physical capacities in elite male academy players across a competitive soccer season.
