Scoliosis is a spinal deformity and is diagnosed as Cobb angle being greater than 10°. Because it is accompanied with structural dysfunction, it can cause pain, worsen the patient's general health and quality of life. The prevalence of scoliosis has been increasing and many treatments, including surgical treatment and conservative treatment, such as observation, bracing, physiotherapy, and Chuna manual therapy (CMT), have been suggested. CMT is a manual therapy in Korean medicine that provides effective stimulation to the patient's body structure to treat structural dysfunction. After Korean national health insurance's coverage of CMT in 2019, the application of CMT for scoliosis has increased, and many studies have been reported. There have been attempts to elucidate the effectiveness of CMT on scoliosis; however, its effectiveness still remains unconfirmed. Therefore, the aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of CMT on scoliosis.

Knee osteoarthritis is a common condition that affects daily functioning and decreases the quality of life. There are many ways of treatment depending on the stage of the disease. Advanced cases are qualified for arthroplasty, which is an extensive and demanding surgical procedure. Less advanced stages are treated in various ways from rehabilitation, through oral and intra-articular pharmacotherapy, to surgical treatment (arthroscopy, osteotomy). Because surgical treatment is risky, scientists focus on less invasive therapeutic methods. The most valuable management is based on regeneration. To explore the association of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) with bronchial asthma (BA) as well as its severity.

A comprehensive database search will be performed from PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of science for related literatures. Heterogeneity test will be used to assess each outcome indicator. If heterogeneity statistics I2 ≥ 50%, the random effects model will be applied; if I2 < 50%, the fixed effects model will be performed. Sensitivity analysis will be performed in all models. STATA 15.0 software (Stata Corporation, College Station, TX) will be used for statistical analysis. Risk ratio (RR) will be used as the effect size for enumeration data. Radiation overexposure is common in chest X-ray (CXRs) of pediatric patients. However, overexposure may reveal incidental findings that can help to guide patient management or warrant quality improvement.To assess the prevalence of overexposure in CXRs in pediatric intensive care unit (PICU); and identify the incidental findings within overexposed areas, we conducted a retrospective cohort study of children who were admitted to PICU. Two independent evaluators reviewed patient's charts and digital CXRs according to the American College of Radiology standards; to evaluate overexposure of the anatomical parameters and incidental findings.A total of 400 CXRs of 85 patients were reviewed. The mean number of CXRs per patient was 4.7. Almost all (99.75%) CXRs met the criteria for overexposure, with the most common being upper abdomen (99.2%), upper limbs (97%) and neck (95.7%). In addition, 43% of these X-rays were cropped by the radiology technician to appear within the requested perimeter. There was a significag gaseous abdominal distension (73.1%), low-positioned nasogastric tube (24.6%), and constipation (10.3%).Anatomical overexposure in routine CXRs remains high and raises a concern in PICU practice. Appropriate collimation of the X-ray beam, rather than electronically cropping the image, is highly recommended to minimize hiding incidental findings in the cropped-out areas. Redefining the anatomic boundaries of CXR in critically ill infants and children may need further studies and consideration. Quality improvement initiatives to minimize radiation overexposure in PICU are recommended, especially in younger children and those with more severe illness upon PICU admission.

This meta-analysis was performed to investigate whether percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy (PELD) had a superior effect than other surgeries in the treatment of patients with lumbar disc herniation (LDH).

We searched PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science through February 2018 to identify eligible studies that compared the effects and complications between PELD and other surgical interventions in LDH. The outcomes included success rate, recurrence rate, complication rate, operation time, hospital stay, blood loss, visual analog scale (VAS) score for back pain and leg pain, 12-item Short Form Health Survey (SF12) physical component score, mental component score, Japanese Orthopaedic Association Score, Oswestry Disability Index. A random-effects or fixed-effects model was used to pool the estimate, according to the heterogeneity among the included studies.

Fourteen studies (involving 2,528 patients) were included in this meta-analysis. Compared with other surgeries, PELD had favorable clinical outcomesy Disability Index score (WMD = -0.29, 95%CI -1.00, 0.43; P = .434).

Brain metastasis is a common site of distant metastasis of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) that greatly reduces the prognosis of patients. In this study, we explored the correlation between different clinical factors and secondary brain metastases in NSCLC in an attempt to identify NSCLC patient populations at high risk of metastasis to the central nervous system.We collected data for 350 NSCLC patients from the medical record system of the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University from June 2015 to June 2019, and these patients had pathologically verified diagnoses. The correlations between age at the time of diagnosis, sex, histological type, calcium concentration, hemoglobin (HB), fibrinogen (Fbg), activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), CA125, and CA199 levels and brain metastasis were analyzed. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to identify risk factors for NSCLC brain metastasis. A receiver operating characterion brain metastasis were 59.6%, 64.9%, and 73.3%, with specificities of 63.1%, 59.2%, and 70.3%, respectively.According to our study, lesion diameter, calcium concentration, and CEA level are independent risk factors for brain metastases in NSCLC patients. Thus, we can strengthen the regular follow-up of NSCLC patients with tumor diameter > 5.050 cm, calcium > 2.295 mmol/L, CEA > 11.160 ng/mL, and use these factors as a reference for preventive treatments.

Isoelectric focusing electrophoresis (IFE) is currently recognized as the gold standard for detecting oligoclonal bands (OCBs) in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). To the best of our knowledge, however, no study has reported on type III OCBs using IFE. In this paper, we report on a rare case of multiple myeloma (MM) with Echinococcus granulosus infection diagnosed by IFE.

A few cases of optic neuropathy presumed to be caused by vincristine have been reported. However, none described multimodal imaging findings. Here, we report abnormal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and optical coherence tomography (OCT) findings in a putative case of vincristine-induced optic neuropathy.

A 9-year-old boy with Burkett lymphoma who had had no visual problems noticed blurred vision in both eyes 22 days after the first maintenance therapy for lymphoma; the blurred gradually worsened. At that time, the best-corrected visual acuity was 20/200 and 20/100 in the right and left eyes, respectively.
