The aim of this study was to determine the quality of life and its related factors in the caregivers of children with cancer.

This cross-sectional study assessed the quality of life of 270 caregivers of children with cancer in Iran. Data collection tools were a personal information form and the Caregiver Quality of Life Index-Cancer. Data were analyzed by SPSS-18 software using descriptive and inferential statistics (independent t-test, analysis of variance, and linear regression model).

The mean score of quality of life was 78.3 ± 1.6 out of 140. Variables that were significantly associated with quality of life included age (p = .031), gender (p = .021), education (p = .048), occupation (p = .011), economic status (p = .038), average caring time (p = .021), and age of the child (p = .011).

The caregivers of children with cancer did not have a good quality of life. Healthcare providers need to provide comprehensive educational, emotional, social, and economic support to the caregivers of patients with cancer.

To investigate the protein expression of DNA mismatch repair (MMR) proteins in patients with cutaneous melanoma (CM) under immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy.

Immunohistochemistry was performed on tumor tissue for MMR proteins MLH1, MSH2, MSH6, and PMS2 in 50 metastatic CM patients treated with ICI (ipilimumab, nivolumab, pembrolizumab).

Best overall response (BOR) rate was 48% (24/50). Reduced MMR protein expression (nuclear expression in < 80% of tumor cells) was observed in 8 patients (16%). Compared to other clinical parameters, baseline neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio and reduced intratumoral MMR protein expression (P = 0.0033) were determined as the only parameters significantly associated with favorable BOR. However, in this small study population, reduced MMR protein expression did not reach statistical significance in multivariate analysis.

Reduced MMR protein expression is observed in CM and might predict favorable BOR in patients treated with ICI, as was observed for other entities. However, these findings need to be substantiated in larger patient cohorts.

We studied the neuroprotective effects of betulinic hydroxamate (BAH), a novel B55α/PP2A activator that dephosphorylates and inhibits PHD2 activity, in a rat model of neonatal HIBD. Seven-day-old (P7) Wistar rats were exposed to hypoxia after left carotid artery electrocoagulation and then received vehicle (HI + VEH) or BAH 3 mg/kg i.p. 30 min post-insult. Brain damage was assessed by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and neurobehavioral studies testing motor and cognitive performance at P14 and P37, as well as immunohistochemical studies (TUNEL and myelin basic protein (MBP) signal) at P37. Mechanisms of damage were assessed at P14 determining excitotoxicity (glutamate/N-acetylaspartate ratio by H+-magnetic resonance spectroscopy), oxidative stress (protein nitrosylation by Oxyblot), and inflammation (cytokine and chemokine concentration). BAH reduced brain damage volume and cell death, preventing the development of motor and working memory deficits. BAH showed a robust protective effect on myelination, restoring MBP expression at P37. BAH modulated excitotoxicity, oxidative stress, and inflammation. Most neuroprotective effects were still present despite BAH administration was delayed for 12 h, whereas beneficial effects on motor strength at P14 and on cell death and myelination at P37 were preserved even when BAH administration was delayed for 24 h. In conclusion, BAH appears as an effective neuroprotective treatment for neonatal HIBD in a manner associated with the modulation of excitotoxicity, oxidative stress, and inflammation, showing a broad therapeutic window.

To explore whether acupuncture combined with moxibustion could inhibit epithelialmesenchymal transition in Crohn's disease by affecting the transforming growth factor β 1 (TGF- β 1)/Smad3/Snail pathway.

Sixty-three patients with Crohn's disease were randomly divided into an observation group (31 cases) receiving moxibustion at 43 °C combined with acupuncture, and a control group (32 cases) receiving moxibustion at 37 °C combined with sham acupuncture using a random number table. Patients were treated for 12 weeks. Crohn's Disease Activity Index (CDAI) was used to evaluate disease activity. Hematoxylin-eosin staining and transmission electron microscopy were utilized to observe the morphological and ultrastructural changes. Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of transforming growth factor β 1 (TGF-β 1), T β R1, T β R2, Smad3, Snail, E-cadherin and fibronectin in intestinal mucosal tissues.

The decrease of the CDAI score, morphological and ultrastructural changes were more significant i's disease patients by inhibiting the expression levels of TGF-β 1, Tβ R2, Smad3, and Snail. Although clinical reports have indicated the anticancer effects of Chinese herbal medicine, the multiple underlying molecular and biochemical mechanisms of action remain to be fully characterized. Chinese medicine (CM) monomers, which are the active components of CM, serve as the material basis of the functional mechanisms of CM. The aim of this review is to summarize the current experimental evidence from in vitro, in vivo, and clinical studies for the effects of CM monomers in colorectal cancer prevention and treatment, providing some useful references for future research. The current review gives a comprehensive overview of the recent development in Chinese medicine (CM) for treating several kinds of acquired nerve deafness and tinnitus, as well as links the traditional principle to well-established pharmacological mechanisms for future research. To date, about 24 herbal species and 40 related ingredients used in CM to treat hearing loss and tinnitus are reported for the treatment of endocochlear potential, endolymph growth, lowering toxic and provocative substance aggregation, inhibiting sensory cell death, and retaining sensory transfer. However, there are a few herbal species that can be used for medicinal purposes. Nevertheless, clinical studies have been hampered by a limited population sample, a deficiency of a suitable control research group, or contradictory results. Enhanced cochlear blood flow, antiinflammatory antioxidant, neuroprotective effects, and anti-apoptotic, as well as multi-target approach on different auditory sections of the inner ear, are all possible benefits of CM medications. There are numerous unknown natural products for aural ailment and tinnitus identified in CM that are expected to be examined in the future utilizing various aural ailment models and processes.

To observe the efficacy and safety of Guihuang Formula (GHF) in treating patients with type III prostatitis and Chinese medicine syndrome of dampness-heat and blood stasis.

Sixty-six patients diagnosed with type III prostatitis with dampness-heat and blood stasis syndrome were randomly divided into the treatment group (GHF) and the control group (tamsulosin) using a random number table, with 33 cases each group. The treatment group received GHF twice a day, and the control group received tamsulosin 0.2 mg once daily before bedtime. CDK inhibitor Patients in both groups received treatment for 6 weeks and was followed up for 2 weeks. The outcomes included the National Institute of Health Chronic Prostatitis Symptom Index (NIH-CPSI) score, Chinese Medicine Symptoms Score (CMSS), expressed prostatic secretions (EPS) and adverse events (AEs).

After treatment, the NIH-CPSI total score and domain scores of pain discomfort, urination and quality of life decreased significantly from the baseline in both groups (P<0.05). The CMSS score decreased in both groups (P<0.05). The WBC count decreased and lecithin body count increased in both groups (P<0.05). GHF showed a more obvious advantage in reducing the pain discomfort and quality of life domain scores of NIH-CPSI, reducing the CMSS score, increasing the improvement rate of the WBC and lecithin body counts, compared with the control group (P<0.05). There were no significant differences in decreasing urination domain score of NIH-CPSI between two groups (P>0.05). In addition, no serious AEs were observed.

GHF is effective in treating type III prostatitis patients with dampness-heat and blood stasis syndrome without serious AEs. (Registration No. ChiCTR1900026966).
