Here, we show complementary analysis and MSI of polyhydroxybutyric acid (PHB), polyglutamic acid (PGA), and polysaccharide oligomers in soybean root nodule sections by NAPA-LDI and MALDI. For PHB, number and weight average molar mass, polydispersity, and oligomer size distributions across the tissue section and in regions of interest were characterized by NAPA-LDI-MSI.Niche construction theory (NCT) has emerged as a promising theoretical tool for interpreting zooarchaeological material. However, its juxtaposition against more established frameworks like optimal foraging theory (OFT) has raised important criticism around the testability of NCT for interpreting hominin foraging behavior. Here, we present an optimization foraging model with NCT features designed to consider the destructive realities of the archaeological record after providing a brief review of OFT and NCT. Our model was designed to consider a foragers decision to exploit an environment given predation risk, mortality, and payoff ratios between different ecologies, like more-open or more-forested environments. We then discuss how the model can be used with zooarchaeological data for inferring environmental exploitation by a primitive hominin, Homo floresiensis, from the island of Flores in Southeast Asia. Our example demonstrates that NCT can be used in combination with OFT principles to generate testable foraging hypotheses suitable for zooarchaeological research.

Primary cilia, evolutionally conserved organelles involving multiple cell functions, are frequently lost in various cancers. However, little is known about the role of primary cilia in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC).

Immunofluorescence staining was applied to detect primary cilia in normal, oral leukoplakia (OLK) and OSCC tissues. Differentially expressed ciliary genes of OSCC were screened from the TCGA database. Immunohistochemical analysis was used for validating the correlation between the expression of interested proteins and primary cilia, and their regulatory effect on primary cilia was further proved in vitro and in vivo.

A significant decrease in cilia ratio was found in OLK, especially in OSCC. Multiple ciliary genes were abnormally expressed in OSCC and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-Aurora A signaling was chosen for further study. A parallel increase of EGFR-Aurora A was observed in OLK and OSCC tissues. Moreover, EGFR activation induced obvious cilia absorption by phosphorylating Aurora A. Besides, Aurora A silencing significantly restored ciliary expression and decreased tumor growth in vivo.

Anaphylaxis to propofol is rare; however, providers face a clinical quandary as medication warnings still exist regarding propofol administration to egg-, soy-, and peanut-allergic patients.

The primary aim evaluated the rate of allergic reactions during propofol-containing anesthesia in patients listed allergic to egg, soy, or peanut compared with nonallergic patients who received propofol. The secondary aim evaluated the relationship between food allergy history and allergy testing data.

A retrospective chart review conducted between May 2012 and October 2018 identified pediatric patients listed allergic to egg, soy, and/or peanut, who received propofol. Allergy testing and results are presented. Evidence of allergic reaction to propofol during anesthesia was evaluated, and compared with a large nonallergic cohort who received propofol.

Of the 232392 anesthetics administered, 177360 (76%) included propofol and 11308 (6%) involved a patient listed allergic to at least 1 index food. To explore the relationship between patient obesity and nursing workload, and discuss the nursing activities most affected by patient obesity.

The increasing number of patients with obesity, and the severity of obesity, impacts the healthcare workforce, particularly to nurses who provide most direct care to patients. There is growing evidence to suggest that patient obesity may increase nursing workload and time taken for clinical care.

Integrative review.

A comprehensive search of academic databases for primary research related to patient obesity and nursing workload, published since 2000, was conducted. References of relevant articles were hand-searched.

27 articles were analysed. Analysis was undertaken at the levels of patient characteristics, nursing work and the healthcare system. The increasing number of patients with obesity, and the severity of patient obesity, increases nursing workload by affecting nursing time needed to deliver care.
