In this study, we aimed to explore the experiences of being cared for in an intensive care unit (ICU) through patients' memories. We adopted a convergent parallel mixed-method design. We interviewed 100 patients shortly after their ICU discharge. Content analysis revealed 14 categories and 49 codes grouped according to themes corresponding to ICU Memory tool core components (factual events, feelings, delusions). The most critical patients reported mostly fragmented or delusional memories, the less critically-ill more factual memories. All experiences were recounted with strong feelings. ICU was identified as a hostile, stressful environment. Positive experiences were mainly associated with a sense of safety promoted by the nurses. Negative experiences were related to privacy and dignity violations, lack of empathy, not being understood, delays/lack of obtaining support, and total control by the health care staff. Removing any avoidable sources of stress and ensuring personalized, dignified care represent a key aim for ICU interprofessional teams.A set of quinazolinones synthesized by the aid of L-norephedrine was assembled to generate novel analogues as potential anticancer and radiosensitizing agents. The new compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxic activity against MDA-MB-231, MCF-7, HepG-2, HCT-116 cancer cell lines and EGFR inhibitory activity. The art-based intervention is assessed using a pre-post design and four questionnaires, which consist of The General Health Questionnaire, Beck's Depression Inventory, the Barcelona Immigrant Stress Scale and Carol Ryff's Psychological Well Being Scale. Furthermore, five participants were interviewed before and after the intervention and a thematic analysis of the transcriptions was carried out.Results A significant reduction of depressive symptoms with a large effect size was found. An increase of reflexive discourse and the feeling of belonging after the intervention was also observed. Caregiver burden affects formal caregivers. The purpose of this integrative review was to explore formal caregiver burden among nursing staff in nursing homes. Specific aims were to gain an understanding of the attributes, definitions, measures, and primary outcomes. A systematic search of CINAHL, PubMed, PsycINFO, and Embase was completed. The sample included 19 articles, which were published in English between January 1980 and April 2020. Attributes varied; however, perceived stress was frequently identified, consistent with the formal caregiver burden definition. Psychometric measures employed in the studies indicated heterogeneity. Primary outcomes included differences in burden, resident behavior, occupational and personal factors, and resident care. Research is needed to gain an understanding of this recently defined concept. Formal caregiver burden in nursing homes has emerged as a priority for research during the pandemic with new challenges and guidelines.Young sexual minority men are disproportionately affected by HIV in Mexico. Little is known about their thoughts about childbearing, an issue complicated by sexual identity and HIV serostatus. We conducted 16 in-depth qualitative interviews to explore the parenting desires of young sexual minority men living with HIV in Mexico City. A modified grounded theory approach was used for qualitative analysis. Participants ranged in age from 17 to 21 years and had been living with HIV for an average of 15 months. Most expressed the desire to have a child in the future but were uninformed as to their options for doing so. Participants largely preferred adoption, citing the perceived risk of HIV transmission as a deterrent to using assisted reproductive technologies. Some participants expressed the desire to have a child that was genetically their own, but shared doubts as to the feasibility. The majority of participants stated that the topic of childbearing had never come up during the course of their HIV care.

LncRNAs are non-coding RNAs exerting vital roles in the occurrence and development of various cancer types. This study tended to describe the expression pattern of FENDRR in colorectal cancer (CRC), and further investigate the role of FENDRR in CRC cell biological behaviors.

Gene expression profile of colon cancer was accessed from the TCGA database, and then processed for differential analysis for identification of differentially expressed lncRNAs and miRNAs. Some

experiments like qRT-PCR, MTT, colony formation assay, wound healing assay and Transwell assay were performed to assess the effect of FENDRR on cell biological behaviors. Dual-luciferase reporter assay was conducted to further validate the targeting relationship between FENDRR and miR-424-5p, and rescue experiments were carried out for determining the mechanism of FENDRR/miR-424-5p underlying the proliferation, migration and invasion of CRC cells.

Bioinformatics analysis suggested that FENDRR was significantly down-regulated in CRC tissue, and low FENDRR was intimately correlated to poor prognosis. FENDRR overexpression could greatly inhibit cell proliferation, migration and invasion. Besides, there was a negative correlation between FENDRR and miR-424-5p. Dual-luciferase reporter assay indicated that miR-424-5p was a direct target of FENDRR. Rescue experiments discovered that FENDRR exerted its role in cell proliferation, migration and invasion in CRC via targeting miR-424-5p.

SEER documented OC patients, diagnosed between 2010 and 2016, were included in the study. link2 Univariable and multivariable logistic regression analyses were performed to identify associated factors for lung metastases (LM) development. Kaplan-Meier analysis was used to estimate the overall survival for OC patients with LM. A total of 10146 eligible serous ovarian cancer (SOC) patients were included, the prevalence of LM was 3.77% (N = 378). Patients with T4 stage (χ2 = 128.515; P = 0.000), N1 stage (χ2 = 49.536; P = 0.000), right laterality (χ2 = 18.756; P = 0.000) (compared with left side), undifferentiated grade (χ2 = 36.174; P = 0.000), bone metastasis (χ2 = 183.529); P = 0.000), brain metastasis (χ2 = 117.539; P = 0.000), liver metastasis (χ2 = 442.472; P = 0.000) had a larger probability of LM than other groups. Results showed that T3/N1 stage, bone metastases, liver metastases, chemotherapy, surgery were positively correlated with LM. Multivariable cox analysis showed that age, bone metastasis, no chemotherapy, no surgery were independent risk factors in SOC-LM patients. This study provided new research insights on the prevalent LM in patients with SOC. Because GABAergic neurons are a major mediator of hypothalamic leptin action, we studied the role of GABAergic LRP1 in energy balance and leptin action using mice lacking LRP1 in Vgat- or AgRP-expressing neurons (Vgat-Cre; LRP1loxP/loxP or AgRP-Cre; LRP1loxP/loxP). Here we show that LRP1 deficiency in GABAergic neurons results in severe obesity in male and female mice fed a normal chow diet. This effect is most likely due to increased food intake and decreased energy expenditure and locomotor activity. Increased adiposity in GABAergic neuron-specific LRP1-deficient mice is accompanied by hyperleptinemia and hyperinsulinemia. Insulin resistance and glucose intolerance in these mice are occurred without change in body weight. Importantly, LRP1 in GABAergic neurons is not required for leptin action, as evidenced by normal leptin's anorexigenic action and leptin-induced hypothalamic Stat3 phosphorylation. In contrast, LRP1 deficiency in AgRP neurons has no effect on adiposity and caloric intake. In conclusion, our data identify GABAergic neurons as a key neurocircuitry that underpins LRP1-dependent regulation of systemic energy balance and body-weight homeostasis. We further find that the GABAergic LRP1 signaling pathway modulates food intake and energy expenditure independently of leptin signaling and AgRP neurons.
