This study aimed to test whether control in maxillary and mandibular incisor position, during treatment with an acrylic splint Herbst appliance, could influence the mandibular response in growing patients with skeletal Class II malocclusion.

The lateral cephalograms of 61 patients (mean age, 12.3years; standard deviation, 1.6) with skeletal and dental Class II malocclusion were retrospectively analyzed both at baseline and after Herbst appliance removal, using a modified Pancherz cephalomeric analysis. Forty-five patients had received miniscrew in the mandibular arch to control mandibular incisor anchorage. In 21 patients, the maxillary incisors had been proclinated before starting the treatment for deepbite and maxillary incisor lingual inclination. All the patients were categorized a posteriori into 2 homogeneous groups, according to dental overjet reduction 30 patients with dental overjet reduction (DR) and 31 patients without dental overjet reduction (NDR).

Both groups presented a significant skeletal correction. However, the change was significantly greater in the NDR group than in the DR group (P<0.01). The mandibular bone base reached a median value of 4.0mm (interquartile range, 2.5) in the NDR group vs 1.1mm (interquartile range, 2.8) in the DR group (P<0.001). The 2 groups were also significantly different in terms of the positional change of maxillary incisor, which was proclinated in group NDR and lingualized in group DR (P<0.001).

The results showed that dental control of overjet was beneficial to improve the effectiveness of Herbst treatment in increasing mandibular length in growing patients with skeletal Class II malocclusion.

This study aimed to assess the impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic on the orthodontic patient. It also assessed the knowledge and attitude of patients to the COVID-19 infection and the willingness to carry out specific precautionary measures in the orthodontic clinics to mitigate the spread of the virus.

It was a cross-sectional descriptive study. Questionnaires were distributed to orthodontic patients via Google forms. The questionnaire assessed participants' knowledge, attitude, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on orthodontic treatment, and willingness to carry out infection control precautionary measures in the orthodontic clinic.

A total of 304 responses were obtained; 83 males (27.3%), 221 females (72.7%) with a mean age of 35.6years. Subjects demonstrated good knowledge of COVID-19 infection (94.7%). Most respondents (95%) considered the infection as dangerous and believed the orthodontic patient was at risk of contracting the disease but were willing regardless to carry ntic practice setting.

This scoping review has been conducted to summarise the information needs of internet users and their requirements for online health information.

We searched MEDLINE, Web of Science and Scopus up to July 2019. Qualitative, quantitative and mixed-method studies were included and a thematic synthesis with category formation and exact description of the items was carried out.

118 studies were included. To address all users' needs mentioned in the included studies, we grouped them into nine main categories authority, comprehension, currency, evidence-based information, exchange with others, independence, purpose, services, user experience. The evaluation showed that website users wanted qualifications of authors to be cited. Users preferred health information that offered interactive elements and resources for relatives, whilst also providing an opportunity for online contact with others. The ease with which information was accessed and the intelligibility of texts were regarded as being very important to users.

Given the rapid evolvement and changes of online health information, it is crucial to provide up to date insights and a comprehensive overview of the range of criteria.

With the results obtained through this scoping review, the creators of online health information could be assisted in providing user-specific resources.

Professional medical interpreters facilitate patient understanding of illness, prognosis, and treatment options. Facilitating end of life discussions can be challenging. Our objective was to better understand the challenges professional medical interpreters face and how they affect the accuracy of provider-patient communication during discussions of end of life.

We conducted semi-structured interviews with professional Spanish medical interpreters. We asked about their experiences interpreting end of life discussions, including questions about values, professional and emotional challenges interpreting these conversations, and how those challenges might impact accuracy. We used a grounded theory, constant comparative method to analyze the data. Participants completed a short demographic questionnaire.

Seventeen Spanish language interpreters participated. Participants described intensive attention to communication accuracy during end of life discussions, even when discussions caused emotional or professional distress. CTx-648 in vitro Professional strains such as rapid discussion tempo contributed to unintentional alterations in discussion content. Perceived non-empathic behaviors of providers contributed to rare, intentional alterations in discussion flow and content.

We found that despite challenges, Spanish language interpreters focus intensively on accurate interpretation in discussions of end of life.

Provider training on how to best work with interpreters in these important conversations could support accurate and empathetic interpretation.
