End-of-life experiences (ELEs), such as deathbed visions (DBVs), have been reported worldwide. However, ELEs have rarely been discussed in clinical practice, possibly because of the different perceptions of ELEs among clinicians and families. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the differences in perception regarding ELEs, especially DBVs, between clinicians and families.
We conducted a multicentre, prospective and observational study with patients with cancer. After the patients' death, clinicians recorded their perceptions of patients' ELEs during the palliative care unit admission, and bereaved families responded to a questionnaire about ELEs. The primary outcome was the frequency and concordance of DBVs from the perspective of bereaved family members and clinicians. The second outcome was each group's frequency of terminal lucidity and terminal coincidence.
The study included 443 patients. DBVs were reported more frequently by family members than clinicians (14.0% vs 2.7%, p<0.001). Among family members, terminal lucidity and terminal coincidence were observed at 7% and 7.9%, respectively, while only one case each was reported by clinicians.
Clinicians and family members may perceive ELEs differently. Enabling patients and their families to talk about ELEs would assist in optimising grief care.

Natural history of spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) in adult age has not been fully elucidated yet, including factors predicting disease progression and response to treatments. Aim of this retrospective, cross-sectional study, is to investigate motor function across different ages, disease patterns and gender in adult SMA untreated patients.
Inclusion criteria were as follows (1) clinical and molecular diagnosis of SMA2, SMA3 or SMA4 and (2) clinical assessments performed in adult age (>18 years).
We included 64 (38.8%) females and 101 (61.2%) males (p=0.0025), among which 21 (12.7%) SMA2, 141 (85.5%) SMA3 and 3 (1.8%) SMA4. Ratio of sitters/walkers within the SMA3 subgroup was significantly (p=0.016) higher in males (46/38) than in females (19/38). Median age at onset was significantly (p=0.0071) earlier in females (3 years; range 0-16) than in males (4 years; range 0.3-28), especially in patients carrying 4
copies. Median Hammersmith Functional Rating Scale Expanded scores were significantly (p=0.0040) lower in males (16, range 0-64) than in females (40, range 0-62); median revised upper limb module scores were not significantly (p=0.059) different between males (24, 0-38) and females (33, range 0-38), although a trend towards worse performance in males was observed. In SMA3 patients carrying three or four SMN2 copies, an effect of female sex in prolonging ambulation was statistically significant (p=0.034).

Thermally activated polymerization of thioctic acid (TA) enabled the bulk construction of poly(TA), and yielded unique time-dependent self-assembly. Freshly prepared poly(TA) can spontaneously and continuously transfer into higher-molecular-weight species and low-molecular-weight TA monomers. Poly(TA) and the newly formed TA further assembled into self-reinforcing materials via microscopic-phase separation. Bottom-up self-assembly patterns on different scales are fully realized by 3D FDM printing of poly(TA) thermally induced polymerization of TA (microscopic-scale assembly) to poly(TA) and 3D printing (macroscopic-scale assembly) of poly(TA) are simultaneously achieved in the 3D-printing process; after 3D printing, the poly(TA) modes show mechanically enhanced features over time, arising from the microscopic self-assembly of poly(TA) and TA. The cationic nanoparticles can adsorb cell-free nucleic acids (cfNAs) based on charge-charge interaction, which downregulates the expression of Toll-like receptors and then reduces the secretion of inflammatory cytokines. Through in vitro structural optimization, cationic polyamidoamine (PAMAM) dendrimers modified with drug-binding dodecyl groups and diethylethanolamine surface groups (PAMAM-G3-C125 -DEEA20 ) exhibit the most desirable combination of nanoparticle size (≈140 nm), drug loading, cytotoxicity, cfNA binding, and anti-inflammatory activity. In the mouse models of breast cancer metastasis, paclitaxel-loaded nanoparticles reduce serum levels of cfNAs and inflammatory cytokines compared with paclitaxel treatment alone and inhibit both primary tumor growth and tumor metastasis. Additionally, no significant side effects are detected in the serum or major organs. Intracranial aneurysms are treated with a variety of endovascular devices including coils, stents, and flow diverters. The mechanisms by which these devices result in aneurysm occlusion and subsequent healing have been the subject of significant research using various animal models. The murine Helsinki aneurysm model is a sidewall aneurysm created by the end-to-side anastomosis of a donor aortic graft onto the abdominal aorta of a recipient animal. The aim of this systematic review is to assess the efficacy of different endovascular devices for the treatment of the Helsinki model aneurysm.
We performed a systematic review of Pubmed in accordance with PRISMA guidelines, yielding eight studies detailing the results of endovascular treatment of this preclinical aneurysm model. In these studies, aneurysms were treated with coiling (n=81, 7 studies), stenting (n=67, 3 studies), stent-coiling (n=13, 1 study), and flow diversion (n=49, 2 studies). The results of each individual study are discussed with the goal of providing a measure of the relative efficacy of different endovascular devices for the treatment of this particular model aneurysm. We also pay special attention to insights into the mechanisms underlying aneurysm healing after different forms of endovascular therapy.

Some variations in the Hp gene (HP) or Hp-related gene (HPR), including a single-nucleotide polymorphism in intron 2 of HRP, rs2000999, and a complete deletion of the HP gene (HPde l ), one of the rare variants of HP, have been reported to correlate with the serum cholesterol concentration as well as the serum Hp concentration. In this study, we developed a duplex dual-labeled fluorescence probe-based method to simultaneously determine the rs2000999 G > A polymorphism by melting curve genotyping and the zygosity of HPde l by endpoint genotyping. This method was then validated by using the genomic DNA from 94 Japanese subjects for whom genotypes of rs2000999 and HPdel zygosity had already been determined. The results obtained with this method were in perfect agreement with the previous ones. Thus, the present method enables us to estimate these two polymorphisms in relatively large-scale groups of subjects, especially in Asian populations where the HPdel is distributed.
To investigate the knowledge of the rational use of antibiotics among pharmacists in medical institutions in Shanxi Province, People's Republic of China, in order to determine the problems and provide support for the correct management of antibiotics.
A questionnaire survey was conducted, which included the basic information of the respondents, the basic knowledge of antimicrobial management, and the related knowledge of antimicrobial drugs.
462 pharmacists were investigated. The average score of the knowledge related to the rational use of antibiotics was 10.49±4.05. It showed that the hospital type, grade, pharmacist's education, professional title and working years all had an effect on the pharmacist's mastery of antimicrobial-related knowledge (p<0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that hospital grade and pharmacist's education were the main influencing factors (p<0.05).
Pharmacists have insufficient knowledge about the rational application of antibacterial drugs. It is essential to strengthen the training of management regulations and the application of antibacterial drugs.
