To increase paper production without damaging forest cover, it is essential to explore unconventional natural resources, such as dung fiber, which have the huge potential to produce pulp and paper, reinforcement components, etc.The oviduct plays important roles in reproductive events sperm reservoir formation, final gamete maturation, fertilization and early embryo development. It is well known that the oviductal environment affects gametes and embryos and, ultimately, the health of offspring, so that in vivo embryos are better in terms of morphology, cryotolerance, pregnancy rates or epigenetic profile than those obtained in vitro. The deciphering of embryo-maternal interaction in the oviduct may provide a better understanding of the embryo needs during the periconception period to improve reproductive efficiency. Here, we perform a comparative analysis among species of oviductal gene expression related to embryonic development during its journey through the oviduct, as described to date. Cross-talk communication between the oviduct environment and embryo will be studied by analyses of the secreted or exosomal proteins of the oviduct and the presence of receptors in the membrane of the embryo blastomeres. Finally, we review the data that are available to date on the expression and characterization of the most abundant protein in the oviduct, oviductin (OVGP1), highlighting its fundamental role in fertilization and embryonic development.Intraperitoneal chemotherapy (IPC) is a locoregional treatment option in patients with peritoneal metastases (PM). Here, we present an ovarian cancer (OC)-derived PM mouse model for the study of different forms of IPC. Xenograft cell proliferation (luciferase-transfected OVCAR3 and SKOV3 clones) and growth kinetics were assessed using PET scan, bioluminescence imaging (BLI), and histological tumor analysis. Liquid IPC was achieved by intraperitoneal injection with/without capnoperitoneum (6-7 mmHg). Pressurized intraperitoneal aerosol chemotherapy (PIPAC) was mimicked using an intratracheal drug aerosol administration system (micro-nozzle), which, as demonstrated by ex vivo granulometric analysis using laser diffraction spectrometry, produced a polydisperse, bimodal aerosol with a volume-weighted median diameter of (26.49 ± 2.76) µm. Distribution of Tc-99m-labeled doxorubicin in mice was characterized using SPECT and was dependent on the delivery mode and most homogeneous when the micro-nozzle was used. A total of 2 mg doxorubicin per kg body weight was determined to be the optimally effective and tolerable dose to achieve at least 50% tumor reduction. Repeated PIPAC (four times at seven-day-intervals) with doxorubicin in SKOV3-luc tumor-bearing mice resulted in halted tumor proliferation and tumor load reduced after the second round of PIPAC versus controls and the number of tumor nodules was significantly reduced (27.7 ± 9.5 vs. 57.3 ± 9.5; p = 0.0003). Thus, we established the first mouse model of OC PM for the study of IPC using a human xenograft with SKOV3 cells and an experimental IPC setup with a miniaturized nozzle. Repeated IPC was feasible and demonstrated time-dependent anti-tumor activity.A high prevalence of vitamin D (calcidiol) serum deficiency has been described in several autoimmune diseases, including multiple sclerosis (MS), rheumatoid arthritis (AR), and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Vitamin D is a potent immunonutrient that through its main metabolite calcitriol, regulates the immunomodulation of macrophages, dendritic cells, T and B lymphocytes, which express the vitamin D receptor (VDR), and they produce and respond to calcitriol. Genetic association studies have shown that up to 65% of vitamin D serum variance may be explained due to genetic background. The 90% of genetic variability takes place in the form of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), and SNPs in genes related to vitamin D metabolism have been linked to influence the calcidiol serum levels, such as in the vitamin D binding protein (VDBP; rs2282679 GC), 25-hydroxylase (rs10751657 CYP2R1), 1α-hydroxylase (rs10877012, CYP27B1) and the vitamin D receptor (FokI (rs2228570), BsmI (rs1544410), ApaI (rs7975232), and TaqI (rs731236) VDR). Therefore, the aim of this comprehensive literature review was to discuss the current findings of functional SNPs in GC, CYP2R1, CYP27B1, and VDR associated to genetic risk, and the most common clinical features of MS, RA, and SLE.Graphene and graphene oxide based nanomaterials have attained immense significance in research because of their matchless physiochemical characteristics. Although potential biomedical applications of graphene have been extensively studied, however, dentistry related applications were rarely explored. This study aimed to investigate the effect of various percentages of surface modified reduce graphene oxide (S-rGO) in combination with SiO2 nanoparticles (bulk filler) on numerous physio-mechanical characteristics of acrylate-based (BisGMA/TEGDMA 11 by wt.) composites. BisGMA/TEGDMA reinforced with 30 wt.% surface modified fumed-silica (S-A200) was considered as control group (base composite). Various concentrations (0, 0.5, 1, 2, 4 wt.%) of S-rGO were incorporated into the base composite via solution casting and high-speed mixing. The obtained composites were characterized for rheological properties before curing by using Rheometer (Anton Paar, USA) in the oscillatory mode under a frequency sweep over a range ootential hybrid filler for dental nanocomposites.Disease due to pulmonary Aspergillus infection remains a significant unmet need, particularly in immunocompromised patients, patients in critical care and those with underlying chronic lung diseases. To date, treatment using inhaled antifungal agents has been limited to repurposing available systemic medicines. PC945 is a novel triazole antifungal agent, a potent inhibitor of CYP51, purpose-designed to be administered via inhalation for high local lung concentrations and limited systemic exposure. In preclinical testing, PC945 is potent versus Aspergillus spp. and Candida spp. and showed two remarkable properties in preclinical studies, in vitro and in vivo. The antifungal effects against Aspergillus fumigatus accumulate on repeat dosing and improved efficacy has been demonstrated when PC945 is dosed in combination with systemic anti-fungal agents of multiple classes. Resistance to PC945 has been induced in Aspergillus fumigatus in vitro, resulting in a strain which remained susceptible to other antifungal triazoles. In healthy volunteers and asthmatics, nebulised PC945 was well tolerated, with limited systemic exposure and an apparently long lung residency time. In two lung transplant patients, PC945 treated an invasive pulmonary Aspergillus infection that had been unresponsive to multiple antifungal agents (systemic ± inhaled) without systemic side effects or detected drug-drug interactions.Although low neighborhood social cohesion (nSC) has been linked with poor sleep, studies of racially/ethnically diverse participants using multiple sleep dimensions remain sparse. Using National Health Interview Survey data, we examined overall, age, sex/gender, and racial/ethnic-specific associations between nSC and sleep health among 167,153 adults. Self-reported nSC was categorized into low, medium, and high. learn more Very short sleep duration was defined as less then 6 hours; short as less then 7 h, recommended as 7-9 h, and long as ≥9 h. Sleep disturbances were assessed based on trouble falling and staying asleep, waking up feeling unrested, and using sleep medication (all ≥3 days/times in the previous week). Adjusting for sociodemographics and other confounders, we used Poisson regression with robust variance to estimate prevalence ratios (PRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for sleep dimensions by low and medium vs. high nSC. The mean age of the sample was 47 ± 0.1 years, 52% of those included were women, and 69% were Non-Hispanic (NH)-White. Low vs. high nSC was associated with a higher prevalence of very short sleep (PR = 1.29; (95% CI = 1.23-1.36)). After adjustment, low vs. high nSC was associated with very short sleep duration among NH-White (PR = 1.34 (95% CI = 1.26-1.43)) and NH-Black (PR = 1.14 (95% CI = 1.02-1.28)) adults. Low nSC was associated with shorter sleep duration and sleep disturbances.Mitochondria in neurons contribute to energy supply, the regulation of synaptic transmission, Ca2+ homeostasis, neuronal excitability, and stress adaptation. In recent years, several studies have highlighted that the neurotransmitter serotonin (5-HT) plays an important role in mitochondrial biogenesis in cortical neurons, and regulates mitochondrial activity and cellular function in cardiomyocytes. 5-HT exerts its diverse actions by binding to cell surface receptors that are classified into seven distinct families (5-HT1 to 5-HT7). Recently, it was shown that 5-HT3 and 5-HT4 receptors are located on the mitochondrial membrane and participate in the regulation of mitochondrial function. Furthermore, it was observed that activation of brain 5-HT7 receptors rescued mitochondrial dysfunction in female mice from two models of Rett syndrome, a rare neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by severe behavioral and physiological symptoms. Our Western blot analyses performed on cell-lysate and purified mitochondria isolated from neuronal cell line SH-SY5Y showed that 5-HT7 receptors are also expressed into mitochondria. Maximal binding capacity (Bmax) obtained by Scatchard analysis on purified mitochondrial membranes was 0.081 pmol/mg of 5-HT7 receptor protein. Lastly, we evaluated the effect of selective 5-HT7 receptor agonist LP-211 and antagonist (inverse agonist) SB-269970 on mitochondrial respiratory chain (MRC) cytochrome c oxidase activity on mitochondria from SH-SY5Y cells. Our findings provide the first evidence that 5-HT7 receptor is also expressed in mitochondria.A study is carried out on the effect of different surface native pre-oxides on hot corrosion of single crystal nickel-based superalloy at 900 °C. The effect of different oxides formed by different superalloys through pre-oxidation on hot corrosion is verified by normal hot corrosion and tube sealing experiments. The relationship between different surface oxides and the effect of different surface oxides layer on the hot corrosion properties of alloys are studied. In summary, the stable and dense surface pre-Al2O3 layer which can be obtained by pre-oxidation has an obvious positive effect on the improvement of superalloy hot corrosion resistance in reaction. In addition, the internal sulfides are analyzed in depth, and the relationship between Cr, Mo, O and S is discussed in detail.Aeromonas veronii is one of the main pathogens causing various diseases in humans and animals. It is currently difficult to eradicate drug-resistant A. veronii due to the biofilm formation by conventional antibiotic treatments. In this study, a marine peptide-N6NH2 and its analogs were generated by introducing Orn or replacing with D-amino acids, Val and Pro; their enzymic stability and antibacterial/antibiofilm ability against multi-drug resistant (MDR) A. veronii ACCC61732 were detected in vitro and in vivo, respectively. The results showed that DN6NH2 more rapidly killed A. veronii ACCC61732 and had higher stability in trypsin, simulated gastric/intestinal fluid, proteinase K, and mouse serum than the parent peptide-N6NH2. DN6NH2 and other analogs significantly improved the ability of N6NH2 to penetrate the outer membrane of A. veronii ACCC61732. DN6NH2, N6PNH2 and V112N6NH2 protected mice from catheter-associated biofilm infection with MDR A. veronii ACCC61732, superior to N6NH2 and CIP. DN6NH2 had more potent efficacy at a dose of 5 μmol/kg (100% survival) in a mouse peritonitis model than other analogs (50-66.
