Ellagic acid statistically significantly (p less then 0.001) prevented doxorubicin-induced increase in heart rate, while at the same time increased single contraction force (p less then 0.001) and attenuated morphological changes on heart tissue induced by doxorubicin. We can conclude that ellagic acid has potential to prevent doxorubicin-induced changes of the cardiovascular system. The current study was conducted to investigate effects of copper (sulfate, acetate and nano) in ovo injection at 10 days of the embryogenesis period on body weight (BW), immunity, biochemical parameters and carcass traits of broiler chicks at 35 days of age. A total number of 462 fertile eggs were used in seven groups, each group containing 66 eggs in three replicates. The experimental design was as follows the group 1 as a control, while groups 2, 3 and 4 injected with 8 μg/egg of Cu sulfate, Cu acetate and nano Cu, respectively, and groups 5, 6 and 7 injected with 16 μg/egg of Cu sulfate, Cu acetate and nano Cu, respectively. Results stated that BW was increased in Cu-injected groups, except groups of Cu acetate, but plasma constituents, carcass and relative weight of organs did not affect. Cu level (8 μg/egg) had better results than Cu level (16 μg/egg). No differences between among groups in relative weights of spleen and bursa and immune response. In conclusion, it is recommended that in ovo injection of different sources of Cu can augment the BW and did not harmfully affect immunity, carcass traits and biochemical parameters of broiler chicks. This paper presents a Doppler radar apathy-screening technique applied to elderly people based on their basic daily activities of walking and movements of sit-to-stand and stand-to-sit (STS). Our Doppler radar system remotely measured the kinematic parameters of the movements of 78 community-dwelling elderly adults (27 apathetic participants and 51 non-apathetic ones). Subsequently, logistic regression models using the measured kinematic parameters of gait and sit-to-stand/stand-to-sit movements were constructed for screening. The experimental results verified that, although the model using gait parameters could screen an apathetic group with a sensitivity of 85.2% and a specificity of 58.8%, the model using the STS parameters achieved better screening accuracies with a sensitivity of 88.9% and a specificity of 76.5%. These results reveal that the kinematic information of STS movements is significantly more effective at detecting apathy than is the gait information, which is otherwise regarded to be effective in conventional epidemiological studies. We recently described a protein O-glycosylation pathway conserved in all species of the Burkholderia genus that results in the synthesis and incorporation of a trisaccharide glycan to membrane-exported proteins. Here, we exploited this system to construct and evaluate a diagnostic tool for glanders. Burkholderia mallei, the causative agent of glanders, is a highly infectious and fatal zoonotic pathogen that infects horses, mules, donkeys, and occasionally humans. A highly sensitive and specific diagnostic tool is crucial for the control, elimination, and eradication of B. mallei infections. JIB04 We constructed plasmids carrying synthetic genes encoding a modified, previously unannotated Burkholderia glycoprotein containing three glycosylation sequons fused to the cholera toxin B-subunit. The resulting proteins were glycosylated in the B. cenocepacia K56-2 parental strain, but not in glycosylation-deficient mutants, as determined by SDS-PAGE and fluorescent lectin blots. One of these glycoproteins was used as an antigen in ELISA and western blots to screen a panel of serum samples collected from glanders-infected and healthy horses, which were previously investigated by complement fixation test and indirect ELISA based on a semi-purified fraction of B. mallei. We show that ELISA and western blot assays based on our glycoprotein antigen provide 100% specificity, with a sensitivity greater than 88%. The glycoprotein antigen was recognized by serum samples collected from patients infected with B. pseudomallei, B. mallei, B. multivorans, and B. cenocepacia. Our results indicate that protein O-glycosylation in Burkholderia can be exploited as a biomarker for diagnosis of Burkholderia-associated infections.

Moral distress is a significant concern for nurses as it can lead to burnout and intentions to leave the profession. Pediatric nurses encounter stressful and ethically challenging situations when they care for suspected victims of child maltreatment. Data on pediatric nurses' moral distress are limited, as most research in this field has been done in adult inpatient and intensive care units.

The purpose of this study was to describe pediatric nurses' moral distress and evaluate the impact of caring for suspected victims of child maltreatment on nurses' moral distress, burnout, and intention to leave.

This descriptive cross-sectional correlational study was conducted in a mid-Atlantic, urban area Magnet pediatric level I trauma center that cares for over 1800 cases of suspected child maltreatment annually. An anonymous electronic survey was sent to all the nurses working at the hospital.

Institutional Review Board approval was received from the first author's university and the hospital where the study was conducted.

Overall, nurses (

= 146) reported low levels of moral distress with a mean score of 59.54 (SD = 49.22) and a range of 0-300 on the Moral Distress Scale Neonatal-Pediatric version. Although the frequency of caring for suspected child maltreatment victims did not affect nurses' moral distress, caring for victims with fatal maltreatment contributed to nurses' intention to leave, χ

(1) = 5.35,

= 0.02.

The results of this study add to the understanding of moral distress in pediatric nursing. Caring for victims with fatal maltreatment impacts pediatric nurses' intention to leave.
