Results In all menopausal and non-menopausal patients, the ADCmean and ADCmin values of SCC were lower than those of AC (P 0.05). The ADCmean, ADCmax, and ADCmin values of different pathological types cervical cancers in non-menopausal patients were all higher than those in menopausal patients (P less then 0.05). Conclusion The ADC values of the cervical cancers were different in different pathological types and were also affected by menstrual status. Background Histologic grade assessment plays an important part in the clinical decision making and prognostic evaluation of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the oral tongue and floor of mouth (FOM). Purpose To assess the value of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC)-based radiomics in discriminating between low- and high-grade SCC of the oral tongue and FOM. Material and methods We included data from 88 patients (training cohort n = 59; testing cohort n = 29) who underwent diffusion-weighted imaging with a 3.0-T magnetic resonance imaging scanner before treatment. A total of 526 radiomics features were extracted from ADC maps to construct a radiomics signature with least absolute shrinkage and selection operator logistic regression. Receiver operating characteristic curves and areas under the curve (AUCs) were used to evaluate the performance of radiomic signature. Results Five features were selected to construct the radiomics signature for predicting histologic grade. The ADC-based radiomics signature performed well for discriminating between low- and high-grade tumors, with AUCs of 0.83 in both cohorts. Based on the cut-off value of the training cohort, the radiomics signature achieved accuracies of 0.78 and 0.79, sensitivities of 0.65 and 0.71, and specificities of 0.85 and 0.82 in the training and testing cohorts, respectively. Conclusion ADC-based radiomics can be a useful and promising non-invasive method for predicting histologic grade of SCC of the oral tongue and FOM.Background Granulocyte colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) is known to cause vasculitis, mainly in the small vessels. Several cases of large-vessel vasculitis (LVV) caused by G-CSF have recently been reported in the literature; we retrospectively suspect that some cases of LVV in our institution were associated with administration of G-CSF. Purpose To evaluate the clinical and radiological findings in our cases and to compare them with those in previous reports. Material and methods We retrospectively evaluated clinical and radiological findings in four cases of LVV that occurred after administration of G-CSF in our institution. We also reviewed papers on G-CSF-related LVV and compared their findings to ours. Results G-CSF-related LVV occurred in patients aged > 50 years and more frequently in women. Most patients developed vasculitis within 15 days after the last administration. While 14/16 patients were symptomatic, the remaining two patients were asymptomatic and diagnosed incidentally. In all cases, laboratory inflammatory markers increased, but there were no autoantibodies that clearly indicated other autoimmune vasculitis. Computed tomography revealed elevated soft tissue density around the affected vessels. Conclusion LVV is among the potential adverse events of G-CSF administration. We should keep this outcome in mind when we interpret medical images of patients with previous G-CSF treatment history even if they are asymptomatic. Background A non-invasive tool for the assessment of ulcerative colitis (UC) activity is needed for treatment control. Purpose To determine the efficacy of intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) in assessing inflammatory activity in UC. Material and methods In this prospective study, 20 adult patients underwent 3.0-T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) IVIM diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) with 10 b-values (0-900 s/mm2) 0-6 days after biopsies entailing colonoscopy. The inflammatory activity of large bowel segments was graded on endoscopy with Mayo score and on pathology with a six‑grade classification system. IVIM‑derived parameters (f, D, and D*) calculated from regions of interest placed within the bowel wall were correlated with both scores (56 and 34 bowel segments, respectively). Radiologists were blinded to endoscopy and pathology results. Selleckchem Diphenyleneiodonium A T-test and Wilcoxon rank sum test was used in comparisons and receiver operating characteristic curve analysis was performed. Results Statistically significant differences were found between histopathologically inactive or mild activity and moderate to severe activity in f (respectively mean = 0.19 and mean = 0.28, P = 0.024; area under the curve [AUC] = 0.723, sensitivity 0.82, specificity 0.59, accuracy 0.67 for a 0.185 cut-off value) and D (mean = 1.34 × 10-3mm2/s and mean = 1.07 × 10-3mm2/s, P = 0.0083; AUC = 0.735, sensitivity 0.91, specificity 0.54, accuracy 0.66 for cut-off value 1.24 × 10-3mm2/s). No significant difference in D* was noted. No significant correlation between Mayo endoscopic subscore, and f, D, nor D* was found. Conclusion IVIM perfusion fraction correlates with UC activity and might represent emerging tool in assessment of inflammatory activity. This study examines how vaccine-related books appear on Amazon, focusing on search and recommendation algorithms. We collected vaccine related books that appeared on the first 10 search result pages by Amazon for seven consecutive days and content coded each book. We also collected Amazon's recommendations for each vaccine book and mapped the network of recommendation among these books. First, we found that the number of vaccine-hesitant books outnumbered vaccine-supportive books two to one. Of these vaccine-hesitant books, 21% were written by physicians and medical experts. Second, although we did not find evidence that their search algorithm systematically favored any particular type of book, the three top ranked books across the seven days were all vaccine-hesitant ones. Lastly, using a network model, we found that books sharing similar views of vaccines were recommended together such that when a user views a vaccine-hesitant book, many other vaccine-hesitant books are further recommended for the user. link2 The three most frequently recommended books were vaccine-hesitant ones. link3 The potential consequences of blindly applying commercial algorithms to a complicated health messages such as vaccines are discussed. The experiences of violence and overdose are highly prevalent among women who use illicit drugs. This study sought to ascertain whether multiple victimizations during adulthood increase the frequency of women's overdose. The sample comprised 218 women recruited at Philadelphia harm reduction sites during 2016-2017. Victimization was assessed as exposure to 16 types of adulthood violence. Three measures were constructed for multiple victimizations continuous and categorical polyvictimization, and predominant violence domain. Negative binomial regression estimated the incidence rate ratio (IRR) of lifetime overdoses from multiple victimizations. Lifetime history of opioid use (88.6%) and drug injection (79.5%) were common. Among overdose survivors (68.5%), the median of lifetime overdoses was 3. The majority of participants (58.7%) were victims of predominantly sexual violence, 26.1% experienced predominantly physical abuse/assault, and 3.7% were victims of predominantly verbal aggression/coercive control. Participants reported a mean of seven violence types; the higher-score category of polyvictimization (9-16 violence types) comprised 41.7% of the total sample. In multivariable models, one-unit increase in continuous polyvictimization was associated with 4% higher overdose rates (IRR 1.04, 95% confidence interval [CI] [1.00, 1.08]). Compared to women who were not victimized (11.5%), those in the higher-score category of polyvictimization (IRR 2.01; 95% CI [1.06, 3.80]) and exposed to predominantly sexual violence (IRR 2.10, 95% CI [1.13, 3.91]) were expected to have higher overdose rates. Polyvictimization and sexual violence amplified the risk of repeated overdose among drug-involved women. Female overdose survivors need to be screened for exposure to multiple forms of violence, especially sexual violence. Findings underscore the need to scale-up victimization support and overdose prevention services for disenfranchised women. In dental clinical practice, systemic steroids are often applied at the end of implant surgeries in order to reduce postsurgical inflammation (tissue swelling, etc.), and to reduce patient discomfort. However, the use of systemic steroids is associated with generalized catabolic effects and with a temporarily reduced immunological competence. We hypothesize that by applying locally anti-cytokine antibodies (anti-TNF- and anti-IL-1) together with a bioactive osteogenic implant at the time of the surgical intervention for the placement of a construct, we will be able to achieve the same beneficial effects as by use of systemic steroids, but are able avoid the generalized anti-anabolic effects and the reduced immunocompetence effects, associated with the systemic use of steroids. In an adult rat model, a collagen sponge, soaked with the osteogenic agent BMP-2 (bone morphogenetic protein-2), was used as an example for a bioactive implant material and was surgically placed subcutaneously. In the acute inflammatory phase after implantation (2 days after surgery) we investigated the local inflammatory tissue response, and 18 days postsurgically the efficiency of local osteogenesis (in order to assess possible anti-anabolic effects). We found that the negative control groups, treated postsurgically with systemic steroids, showed a significant suppression of both the inflammatory response as well as the osteogenetic activity, i.e. were associated with significant general anti-anabolic effects, even when steroids were used only at low dose level. The local anti-cytokine treatment, however, was able to significantly enhance new bone formation activity, i.e. the anabolic activity, over positive control values with BMP-2 only. However, the anti-cytokine treatment was unable to reduce the local inflammatory and swelling responses. The goal of this study was to determine the injury profiles of Canadian children who presented to the Emergency Department from 1990 to 2016 due to an injury caused while traveling in a form of land transportation that did not require child restraint. A case series was conducted using data from the electronic Canadian Hospitals Injury Reporting and Prevention Program (eCHIRPP). Children who were injured while travelling on land transportation for which child restraint is not required, who presented to a Canadian Emergency Department that participates in eCHIRPP between April 1, 1990 to August 29, 2016, were included. Overall, 1856 children sustained 2139 injuries (mean age 9.8 years (SD 4.5), 45.5% male). The majority of children were injured on a school bus (49.3%). The most commonly injured body part was the head or neck (52.6%). The most common type of injury was a superficial or open wound (33.1%), followed by traumatic brain injury (19.3%). Overall, 39.4% of injuries required no treatment in hospital. Overall, approximately 70 children presented to eCHIRPP EDs per year on a land transportation vehicle that does not require restraints. Biomechanical studies are needed to improve safety on land transportation vehicles that do not require seatbelts.
