Introduction 3D printed trussed titanium interbody cages may deliver bone stimulating mechanobiological strains to cells attached at their surface. The exact size and distribution of these strains may depend on patient-specific factors, but the influence of these factors remains unknown. Therefore, this study aimed to determine patient-specific variations in local strain patterns on the surface of a trussed titanium interbody fusion cage. Materials and Methods Four patients eligible for spinal fusion surgery with the same cage size were selected from a larger database. For these cases, patient-specific finite element models of the lumbar spine including the same trussed titanium cage were made. Functional dynamics of the non-operated lumbar spinal segments, as well as local cage strains and caudal endplate stresses at the operated segment, were evaluated under physiological extension/flexion movement of the lumbar spine. Results All patient-specific models revealed physiologically realistic functional dynamics of the operated spine. In all patients, approximately 30% of the total cage surface experienced strain values relevant for preserving bone homeostasis and stimulating bone formation. Mean caudal endplate contact pressures varied up to 10 MPa. Both surface strains and endplate contact pressures varied more between loading conditions than between patients. Conclusions This study demonstrates the applicability of patient-specific finite element models to quantify the impact of patient-specific factors such as bone density, degenerative state of the spine, and spinal curvature on interbody cage loading. In the future, the same framework might be further developed in order to establish a pipeline for interbody cage design optimizations.Object The aims of the study were to explore the protective effects of S-propargyl-cysteine (SPRC) on periodontitis and to determine the underlying mechanisms. Methods A rat periodontitis model was constructed by injecting LPS and SPRC (0, 25, and 50 mg/kg/d) was administered intraperitoneally. H2S and CSE level were detected. The alveolar bone level was evaluated by micro-CT, HE staining and methylene blue staining analysis. Inflammation-related factors, Treg and Th17 cells were detected by immunohistochemistry, RT-PCR, immunofluorescence, Western blot and flow cytometry. Phosphorylation levels of ERK1/2 and CREB were analysed. Results The administration of SPRC significantly increased the expression of CSE in the gingival tissue and the concentration of endogenous H2S in the peripheral blood. Simultaneously, SPRC significantly inhibited the resorption of alveolar bone based on the H&E staining, micro-CT and methylene blue staining analysis. Compared with the periodontitis group, the levels of IL-17A, IL-10 were downregulated and IL-6,TGF-β1 were upregulated in the SPRC groups. In the SPRC group, the percentage of TH17 cells and the expression of ROR-γt were downregulated, while the percentage of Tregs and the expression of Foxp3 were upregulated accompanied with inhibition of phosphorylation ERK1/2 and CREB. Conclusion SPRC can prevent the progression of periodontitis by regulating the Th17/Treg balance by inhibition of the ERK/CREB signalling pathway.During a screening for antifungal secondary metabolites, six new mono-/bis-alkenoic acid derivatives (2-7) and one known alkenoic acid derivative (1) were isolated from an endophytic fungi Scopulariopsis candelabrum. Their chemical structures were identified by 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, 2D NMR, and high-resolution mass spectrometry, as well as comparisons with previously reported literatures. Among them, fusariumesters C‒F (2-5) are bis-alkenoic acid derivatives dimerized by an ester bond, while acetylfusaridioic acid A (6) and fusaridioic acid D (7) are alkenoic acid monomers. All the isolates were submitted to an antifungal assay against Candida albicans and the corn pathogen Exserohilum turcicum using the filter paper agar diffusion method. As a result, only compound 1 decorating with β-lactone ring turned out to be active against these two tested fungi. The broth microdilution assay against Candida albicans showed the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) value of 1 to be 20 μg/ml, while the minimum inhibitory concentration value of the positive control (naystatin) was 10 μg/ml. And the half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) value (21.23 μg/ml) of 1 against Exserohilum turcicum was determined by analyzing its inhibition effect on the mycelial growth, using cycloheximide (IC50 = 46.70 μg/ml) as the positive control. An as-synthesized Eu(III) complex, denoted as Eu(N-DPNQ)(TTD)3, was prepared and characterized, and the antenna mechanism between these ligands and central metal emitter was studied. Here DPNQ means 10-ethyl-10H-indolo [2',3'5,6]pyrazino[2,3-f][1,10]phenanthroline and TTD is 4,4,4-trifluoro-1-(thiophen-2-yl)butane-1,3-dione. We find that Eu(N-DPNQ)(TTD)3 emission intensity dependents on oxygen concentration, and O2-sensing skill of Eu(N-DPNQ)(TTD)3 in polymer composite nanofibers of poly (vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) prepared by electrospinning is investigated. Results reveal that the emission quenching of Eu(N-DPNQ)(TTD)3 is caused by the ground state (triplet) oxygen quenching on antenna ligands triplet state. The Eu(N-DPNQ)(TTD)3 doped composite nanofiber with a loading level of 6 wt% exhibits the best result with sensitivity of 2.43 and response time of 10 s, along with linear response. The rapid development of portable, wearable, and implantable electronic devices greatly stimulated the urgent demand for modern society for multifunctional and miniaturized electrochemical energy storage devices and their integrated microsystems. Gamma radiation was utilized in conjunction with varying solvent environments in an attempt to discern the efficacy of radiolysis as a tool for the deliberate degradation of model network polyesters. Our EPR results demonstrated that gamma radiolysis of neat resin and in the presence of four widely used solvents induces glycosidic scissions on the backbone of the polyester chains. EPR results clearly show the formation of alkoxy radicals and C-centered radicals as primary intermediate radiolytic products. Despite the protective role of the phenyl groups on the backbone of the radiation-induced polyester chains, the radiolytic-glycosidic scissions predominate. Among the following three solvents used in this study (water, isopropyl alcohol, and dichloromethane), the highest radiolytic yield of glycosidic scission was achieved using water. The •OH radicals produced in the radiolysis of phenyl unsaturated polyester aqueous suspensions very rapidly abstract H atoms from the methylene group, which is followed by a very rapid glycosidic scission. The lowest glycosidic yield was found in the dichloromethane solutions of these polyester resins due to scavenging by the fast electron capture reactions.A short and efficient multicomponent sequence for synthesizing fused novel polyheterocyclic chromeno spiro-pyrrolidine oxindoles via 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction mediated by reactive azomethine ylides catalyzed by the Graphene Oxide (GO) is reported herein. This approach was utilized for synthesizing fused polyheterocyclic spiro-pyrrolothiazole and spiro-pyrrole oxindoles with yields ranging from good to excellent. A heterogeneous GO catalyst with an ultra-low catalytic loading of 0.05 wt% could proficiently catalyze the reaction without the formation of any side products and can also be visualized by the formation of solid mass in the reaction flask. The methodology is green in nature and the products were isolated by simple filtration without the use of any chromatographic techniques. Background The measurement and identification of changes in the social structure in response to an exceptional event like COVID-19 can facilitate a more informed public response to the pandemic and provide fundamental insights on how collective social processes respond to extreme events. Objective In this study, we built a generalized framework for applying social media data to understand public behavioral and emotional changes in response to COVID-19. Methods Utilizing a complete dataset of Sina Weibo posts published by users in Wuhan from December 2019 to March 2020, we constructed a time-varying social network of 3.5 million users. In combination with community detection, text analysis, and sentiment analysis, we comprehensively analyzed the evolution of the social network structure, as well as the behavioral and emotional changes across four main stages of Wuhan's experience with the epidemic. Results The empirical results indicate that almost all network indicators related to the network's size and the frequency of social interactions increased during the outbreak. The number of unique recipients, average degree, and transitivity increased by 24, 23, and 19% during the severe stage than before the outbreak, respectively. Additionally, the similarity of topics discussed on Weibo increased during the local peak of the epidemic. Most people began discussing the epidemic instead of the more varied cultural topics that dominated early conversations. The number of communities focused on COVID-19 increased by nearly 40 percent of the total number of communities. Finally, we find a statistically significant "rebound effect" by exploring the emotional content of the users' posts through paired sample t-test (P = 0.003). Conclusions Following the evolution of the network and community structure can explain how collective social processes changed during the pandemic. These results can provide data-driven insights into the development of public attention during extreme events. Background Malignant bone tumors (MBT) are one of the causes of death in elderly patients. The purpose of our study is to establish a nomogram to predict the overall survival (OS) of elderly patients with MBT. Methods The clinicopathological data of all elderly patients with MBT from 2004 to 2018 were downloaded from the SEER database. They were randomly assigned to the training set (70%) and validation set (30%). Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analysis was used to identify independent risk factors for elderly patients with MBT. ACY-738 cell line A nomogram was built based on these risk factors to predict the 1-, 3-, and 5-year OS of elderly patients with MBT. Then, used the consistency index (C-index), calibration curve, and the area under the receiver operating curve (AUC) to evaluate the accuracy and discrimination of the prediction model was. Decision curve analysis (DCA) was used to assess the clinical potential application value of the nomogram. Based on the scores on the nomogram, patients were divided into s with MBT. This predictive model can help doctors and patients develop treatment plans and follow-up strategies.
