To investigate what factors are associated with food insecurity (FI) among freshman students and identify potential solutions.

73 freshman students.

Cross-sectional, Internet survey-based study. selleck Fisher's Exact tests examined factors associated with food security (FS); Cohen's Kappa assessed the agreement between FI scores and self-assessment; thematic analysis used Nvivo 12.

FI was 54.2% among the diverse students (65% non-white). Factors associated with FS included mother with a college degree (p = .018); father employed full-time (p < .001); identifying one's family financial situation as better than others (p = < .001); not obtaining personal student loans (p = 0.022). Students with FI tended to overestimate their FS status. Suggested solutions for FI included improved finances, improved food accessibility, improved cooking skills.

Future interventions should target freshmen who obtain personal student loans or have parents with less than a college degree or unstable employment status. (148).

The COVID-19 pandemic is expected to have serious negative consequences on mental and physical health, which may disproportionally affect young adults. The aim of this study was to understand short-term impacts on a population of students at a college that held in-person classes during the pandemic.

This study was conducted at a moderately-sized private university in the southeastern United States where approximately 75% of students were enrolled in undergraduate degree programs and 25% in graduate degree programs.

A survey was created to assess anxiety and depression symptoms, psychotherapeutic medication use, healthy living, and coping skills. Links to the electronic form were distributed to students via email in Spring 2020 and Fall 2020. Participation was completely voluntary and responses were collected anonymously.

The rate of anxiety symptoms in the study cohort was higher than the national average (31%) and increased between Spring 2020 (39%) and Fall 2020 (50%). Rates of psychotherapeutic med reported high rates of anxiety that increased between Spring and Fall 2020. Self-reported physical health was below average in Spring 2020 but improved in Fall 2020. Appropriate identification and management of the effects of pandemic-related stressors is critical during this uncertain time.Supplemental data for this article can be accessed online at https//doi.org/10.1080/07448481.2022.2052074 .

This one-year follow-up study examined the changes of impact of using social media among college students with disabilities from the initial survey.

193 students completed the follow-up survey of the 341 who agreed to participate.

Paired t-test compared the changes in social media usage between the two surveys. Multiple linear regressions examined the relationship of social media use variables and social media addiction, career networking, disability subtypes between the two surveys.

The daily average time spent on social media remained similar over one year. However, the level of social media addiction increased, especially among male students. One positive change was that students spent more time using social media for career networking purposes.

Public awareness and education of social media addiction should be raised. Additionally, students could benefit from being guided and encouraged to use social media for positive activities such as career networking.

Therefore, this study was conducted to investigate these relationships. Participants Data were collected from 177 participants from four universities. Methods On-line survey was used to assess perceived racial discrimination related to the COVID-19, daily racial discrimination during the pandemic, home boundness and loneliness, and depression and anxiety. Results Daily racial discrimination was associated with an increased risk for depression. Home boundness was related to fewer depression symptoms (B = -0.728) and fewer anxiety symptoms (B = -0.558). Higher symptoms of loneliness (B = 0.377) were related to more depression symptoms. More loneliness (B = 0.257) was related to more anxiety symptoms. Conclusions The findings can help university stakeholders to create a guideline for the development and implementation of resource programs for Asian international graduates. The COVID-19 pandemic is having profound effects on college students, and those with mental health conditions are more vulnerable to the impact of this stress. Objective To study the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on college students' mental health. Participants Participants (n=489) were mostly female, undergraduate, and aged 18-25. Methods Participants completed an online survey assessing symptoms of mental health problems including hopelessness, loneliness, sadness, anxiety, sadness, and anger. Results Approximately 81.6 % self-reported at least one negative mental health symptom. Students reported increased feelings of hopelessness (+7.8%), loneliness (+6.7%), sadness (+8.8%), depression (+2.6%), anxiety (+5.2%), and anger (+14.6%) during the pandemic than before. LGBTQ students and Black students had significantly more mental health symptoms during the pandemic than straight and White students. Conclusions Results of this study highlight the negative impact of the pandemic and resultant changes on college students' mental health.Little is known about those who are widowed while raising dependent children. This study aimed to explore the factors which influence adjustment to partner death. Seven fathers and five mothers were interviewed, and constructivist grounded theory was used. Three interrelated themes were identified Interpersonal influences, Intrapersonal influences, and Contextual influences. Dependent children meant sole responsibility and increased demands, yet ultimately provided widowed parents a purpose. Participants highlighted the need for increased awareness of young widowhood at a systemic and cultural level, to improve communication around death and young widowhood. Implications included social, financial and therapeutic interventions. Objective Combined alcohol and disordered eating (drunkorexia) are alcohol fueled weight management behaviors. Mindfulness negatively relates to both disordered eating and alcohol use. Participants Participants (n = 344, average age 20) were primarily female (85.2%, n = 293), and Caucasian (82.6%, n = 284). Methods Students reported drunkorexia and mindfulness. Results Drunkorexia behaviors were negatively correlated with Acting with Awareness (AA; full attention to a present moment; r = -.21, p  less then  .001) and Nonjudgment (NJ; understanding and leniency toward oneself; r = -.22, p  less then  .001). Drunkorexia motivations are significantly correlated with AA (r = -.13, p = .01) and NJ (r = -.18, p = .001). Structural equation modeling revealed higher levels of NJ related to higher levels of drunkorexia. Conclusion The objective was to determine a potential relationship between drunkorexia behaviors and motivations, and trait mindfulness. Findings suggest a nonjudgmental disposition relates to lower levels of drunkorexia.Production of concentrated polyaluminum chloride (PACl) with the proper distribution of Al species (Ala, Alb, and Alc) is still a challenging issue on both industrial and laboratory scale. Hence, the effects of total aluminum concentration (AlT) at high levels, regular basicity values, and low base injection rates on the distribution of Al species in PACl solutions were investigated using quadratic models. The results confirmed the possibility to synthesize tailor-made PACl solutions with a specified value of either Ala, Alb, or Alc within the range of 22-51%, 4-51%, or 0.5-74%, respectively. For instance, in agreement with the predicted value, a PACl sample rich in both Alb (42,200 ppm) and AlT was produced by applying the basicity of 1.7, AlT of 9.07% as Al2O3, and basification rate of 0.48 ml/h. In addition, the maximum Alc could be acquired by exploiting the highest C, B, and Q values. This condition also minimized both Ala and Alb. The trends of Ala and Alc changes by the increment of basicity were concave and convex, respectively, while Alb showed either a decreasing trend or a concave pattern based on the values of injection rate and AlT. The Alb-rich PACl sample was effectively applied for turbidity removal from synthetic wastewater at various pHs and initial turbidities. At best, residual turbidity of about 1% was observed after the coagulation process. These findings can be constructive for the production and application of tailor-made PACl.

The mammalian circadian clock system regulates physiological function. Crude drugs, containing

, and Kampō, combining multiple crude drugs, have been used to treat various diseases, but few studies have focussed on the circadian clock.

We examine effective crude drugs, which cover at least one or two of Kampō, for the shortening effects on period length of clock gene expression rhythm, and reveal the mechanism of shortening effects.

We prepared 40 crude drugs. In the

experiments, we used mouse embryonic fibroblasts from PERIOD2LUCIFERASE knock-in mice (background; C57BL/6J mice) to evaluate the effect of crude drugs on the period length of core clock gene,

, expression rhythm by chronic treatment (sixdays) with distilled water or crude drugs (100 μg/mL). In the

experiments, we evaluated the free-running period length of C57BL/6J mice fed AIN-93M or AIN-93M supplemented with 1% crude drug (6weeks) that shortened the period length of the PERIOD2LUCIFERASE expression rhythm in the

experiments.

We found that

(ED

24.01 μg/mL) had the most shortened PERIOD2LUCIFERASE rhythm period length in 40 crude drugs and that the CaMKII pathway was involved in this effect. Moreover, long-term feeding with AIN-93M+

slightly shortened the free-running period of the mouse locomotor activity rhythm.

Our results indicate that

may be regarded as a new therapy for circadian rhythm disorder and that the CaMKII pathway may be regarded as a target pathway for circadian rhythm disorders.

Our results indicate that Polygalae Radix may be regarded as a new therapy for circadian rhythm disorder and that the CaMKII pathway may be regarded as a target pathway for circadian rhythm disorders. Objective The prevalence of illnesses related to VPDs is higher among older adults and college students experience them despite decades of vaccine availability. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and American College Health Association (ACHA) emphasizes that all students should provide vaccine proof or receive immunizations prior to class registration. Methods Using the KAP model, this study investigates the perceptions of first-generation university students regarding campus vaccine requirements. Data were collected using the Web-based survey software Qualtrics regarding students' vaccine knowledge and attitudes. Results Of the 1,327 responses, the majority were female (74.23%), Hispanic (56.67%), and ages 18-25 years (35.57%). Participants were familiar with the function of vaccines (96.64%) and believed that vaccines prevent contagious diseases (92.70%). These responses were significantly associated with vaccination compliance however, 18.48% of students were not in full compliance. There were significant differences in vaccination compliance across academic standing, age, and race.
