Twenty-one pentafluorphenylhydrazones have been analyzed by means of tandem mass spectrometry (ESI MS/MS) conditions to compare their fragmentations with those ones obtained from quantum-chemical calculations of the hydrazone moiety depending on the substitution from the aldehyde site. The hydrazone N-N bond is disrupted under such conditions, and these results are in accordance with the facts that an electron-rich particle, such as an anion and or radical in a solution, can cause this disruption and simultaneous defluorination in para-position of the hydrazone part of the molecule.We present a three-dimensional (3D) spatial reconstruction of coronary arteries based on fusion of intravascular optical coherence tomography (IVOCT) and digital subtraction angiography (DSA). Centerline of vessel in DSA images is exacted by multi-scale filtering, adaptive segmentation, morphology thinning and Dijkstra's shortest path algorithm. We apply the cross-correction between lumen shapes of IVOCT and DSA images and match their stenosis positions to realize co-registration. The aim of this synthesis was to review and explore the experiences of mentorship of preregistration nursing students and nurses. A systematic search of databases was performed for qualitative studies published in English from 2000 to 2018. Eleven qualitative studies were selected, from which three analytical themes emerged mentors' capabilities and readiness for preregistration nursing student mentorship, humanistic approach as foundation to the effectiveness of preregistration nursing student mentorship, and the collaboration of stakeholders in health care and educational settings to enhance preregistration nursing student mentorship. A thematic framework of mentorship in preregistration nursing education was introduced. The thematic synthesis sheds light on how to improve a formal system of mentorship and clinical supervision for nursing education.Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) is highly expressed in embryo and colorectal cancer (CRC) and has been widely used as a marker for CRC. Emerging evidence has demonstrated that elevated CEA levels promote CRC progression. However, the mechanism of the increased CEA expression in patients with primary and recurrent CRC is still an open question. In this study, we showed that c-KIT, ELK1, and CEA were hyperexpressed in patients with CRC, especially patients with recurrent disease. From bioinformatics analysis, we picked ELK1 as a candidate transcription factor (TF) for CEA; the binding site of ELK1 within the CEA promoter was confirmed by chromatin immunoprecipitation and dual luciferase reporter assays. Overexpression of ELK1 increased CEA expression in vitro, while knockdown of ELK1 decreased CEA. Upregulated ELK1 promoted the adhesion, migration, and invasion of CRC cells, however knockdown of CEA blocked the activities of ELK1-overexpressed CRC cells. Furthermore, we explored the role of c-KIT-ERK1/2 signaling in activation of ELK1. Blocking c-KIT signaling using Imatinib or ISCK03 reduced p-ELK1 expression and consequently decreased CEA levels in CRC cells, as did blocking the ERK1/2 pathway by U0126. Compared with wild type littermates, the c-kit loss-of-functional Wadsm/m mice showed lowered c-KIT, ELK1, and CEA expression. In conclusion, our study revealed that ELK1, which was activated by c-KIT-ERK1/2 signaling, was a key TF for CEA expression. Blocking ELK1 or its upstream signaling could be an alternative way to decelerate CRC progression. Changes to federal regulations protecting conscience clauses have tilted strongly in favor of the rights of providers in recent years; this challenges the delicate balance of patient and provider rights that has developed over the years. Here, a bio-palladium catalyzed polymerization strategy was developed for in situ synthesis of conjugated polymers on living cell surfaces. Through Sonagashira polymerization, photoactive polyphenyleneethynylene (PPE) is synthesized on the cell surface via cell-generated bio-Pd catalyst. The in situ formed PPE is identified by excellent light-harvest capacity and blue fluorescence on the surfaces of E. coli and C. pyrenoidosa. Besides imaging microbes for tracing the polymerization process, PPE also exhibits enhanced antibacterial activity against E. coli. It can also augment the ATP synthesis of C. pyrenoidosa through enlarging the light absorption and accelerating the cyclic electron transport of the algae. With this bio-metal catalyzed polymerization method, functional polymers can be synthesized in situ on the living cell surface.

The classic symptoms of Frey syndrome are gustatory sweating and flushing. Aims of the study were to describe prevalenceand severity of typical and atypical presentations of the disorder and to assess the effects of botulinum neurotoxin A (BoNT-A) therapy in patients with Frey syndrome after parotidectomy.

In this prospective, observational study on 18 patients, we assessed symptom severity before therapy, after 15 days, 1, 3 and 6 months' follow-up with the sweating-flushing-itch-paresthesia-pain (SFIPP) Frey scale specifically designed by the authors themselves for this study.

Before BoNT-A injection, all patients (100%) complained gustatory sweating, 80% paresthesia, 77% gustatory flushing, 60% pain and 60% gustatory itch. The SFIPP-Frey overall score and the symptom-specific ones decreased significantly at each post-therapy control.

The prevalence of "unusual" manifestations is not negligible. BoNT-A improves symptoms severity. The SFIPP-Frey scale may be useful to assess symptoms and to monitor post-therapy outcomes.

Recognized conditions with such mutations include Leigh syndrome and hereditary tumors such as pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma (PPGL), renal cell carcinoma, and gastrointestinal stromal tumor. Tumors appear in SDH mutation carriers with dominant inheritance due to loss of heterozygosity in susceptible cells. Here, we describe a mouse model intended to reproduce hereditary PPGL through Cre-mediated loss of SDHC in cells that express tyrosine hydroxylase (TH), a compartment where PPGL is known to originate. We report that while there is modest expansion of TH+ glomus cells in the carotid body upon SDHC loss, PPGL is not observed in such mice, even in the presence of a conditional dominant negative p53 protein and chronic hypoxia. Instead, we report an unexpected phenotype of nondiabetic obesity beginning at about 20 weeks of age. We hypothesize that this obesity is caused by TH+ cell loss or altered phenotype in key compartments of the central nervous system responsible for regulating feeding behavior, coupled with metabolic changes due to loss of peripheral catecholamine production.Scientists engaged in prostate cancer research have been conducting experiments using two-dimensional cultures of prostate cancer cell lines for decades. However, these experiments fail to reproduce and reflect the clinical course of individual patients with prostate cancer, or the molecular and genetic characteristics of prostate cancer, the basic requirement for most of the preclinical studies on prostate cancer. The use of human prostate cancer tissues in experiments has enabled the collection and verification of clinically relevant data, including chemical reactions, changes in proteins, and specific gene expression. Tissue recombination models have been employed for studying prostate development, the initiation and progression of prostate cancer, and the tumor microenvironment. Notably, the epithelial-stromal interaction, which might play a critical role in prostate cancer pathogenesis, can be reproduced in this model. Patient-derived xenograft models have been developed as powerful avatars comprising patient-derived prostate cancer tissues implanted in immunocompromised mice and could serve as a precision medicine approach for each prostate cancer patient. Spheroid and organoid assays, representative of modern three-dimensional cultures, can replicate the conditions in human prostate tumors and the prostate organ itself as a miniature model. Although an intact immune system against the tumor is missing from the models aimed at investigating immuno-oncological reagents in various malignancies, all these experimental models can help researchers in developing new drugs and selecting appropriate treatment strategies for prostate cancer patients.
