Also, the JA biosynthesis-defective opr3 mutant was epistatic to mpl1, resulting in enhanced resistance in mpl1 opr3 plants. In comparison, JAR1 was not essential for the mpl1-conferred susceptibility to Fg. Considering that methyl-JA promotes Fg growth in culture, we suggest that in part MPL1 curtails disease by limiting the availability of a plant-derived Fg growth-promoting factor.Soft, low-cost, high-performance generators are highly desirable for harvesting ambient low frequency mechanical energy. Here, a dielectric elastomer nanogenerator (DENG) is reported, which consists of a dielectric elastomer capacitor, an electret electrostatic voltage source, and a charge pump circuit. Under biaxial stretching, DENG can convert tensile mechanical energy into electrical power without any external power supply. Different from traditional DEG with the charge outward transfer in direct current (DC), the DENG works based on shuttle movement of internal charges in an alternating current (AC). Through alternating current (AC) method, the charge density of the DENG can reach 26 mC m-2 per mechanical cycle, as well as energy density of up to 140 mJ g-1 . Due to the all-solid-state structure without air gap, the DENG is capable of working stably under different ambient humidity (20 RH%-100 RH%). To demonstrate the applications, a water wave harvester based on the DENG is constructed. The integrated device powers a sensing communication module for self-powered remote weather monitoring, showing the potential application in ocean wave energy harvesting.
Recently, a data-driven regression analysis method was developed to utilize the resting-state (rs) blood oxygenation level-dependent signal for cerebrovascular reactivity (CVR) mapping (rs-CVR), which was previously optimized by comparing with the CO
inhalation-based method in health subjects and patients with neurovascular diseases.
To investigate the agreement of rs-CVR and the CVR mapping with breath-hold MRI (bh-CVR) in patients with gliomas.
Retrospective.
Twenty-five patients (12 males, 13 females; mean age ± SD, 48 ± 13 years) with gliomas.
Dynamic T2*-weighted gradient-echo echo-planar imaging during a breath-hold paradigm and during the rs on a 3-T scanner.
rs-CVR with various frequency ranges and resting-state fluctuation amplitude (RSFA) were assessed. The agreement between each rs-based CVR measurement and bh-CVR was determined by voxel-wise correlation and Dice coefficient in the whole brain, gray matter, and the lesion region of interest (ROI).
Voxel-wise Pearson correlation, Dice coefficient, Fisher Z-transformation, repeated-measure analysis of variance and post hoc test with Bonferroni correction, and nonparametric repeated-measure Friedman test and post hoc test with Bonferroni correction were used. Significance was set at P< 0.05.
Compared with bh-CVR, the highest correlations were found at the frequency bands of 0.04-0.08 Hz and 0.02-0.04 Hz for rs-CVR in both whole brain and the lesion ROI. RSFA had significantly lower correlations than did rs-CVR of 0.02-0.04 Hz and a wider frequency range (0-0.1164 Hz). Significantly higher correlations and Dice coefficient were found in normal tissues than in the lesion ROI for all three methods.
The optimal frequency ranges for rs-CVR are determined by comparing with bh-CVR in patients with gliomas. The rs-CVR method outperformed the RSFA. Significantly higher correlation and Dice coefficient between rs- and bh-CVR were found in normal tissue than in the lesion.
3 TECHNICAL EFFICACY STAGE 2.
3 TECHNICAL EFFICACY STAGE 2.This study is based on Jumana Antoun's PhD thesis at Walden University, USA examining the information retrieval behaviour of 72 community family physicians' at the point of care in eight Arab countries in the Eastern Mediterranean. The key findings were that participants looked for digital clinical information at the point of care on average 14.0 times per week with the majority (80.3%) using a mobile phone. Clinical information about medication dosage and side effects was the most sought clinical question, and patient education was the least. Almost half of the participants considered that they often found relevant (55.6%), useful (56.9%) and unbiased (58.3%) information. Whilst none of the factors examined predicted the physicians' self-reported effectiveness and efficiency at information retrieval, the implication for practice points clearly to the barriers and the need for curricula to focus on search strategies using free resources at the point of care. This study aimed to analyze the morphology of the tongue, which varies among fish species and has not been studied in turbot (Scophthalmus maximus), using macro-anatomical, light and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). As research materials, the tongues of eight adult turbot, which were used for consumption, were examined. The roughly triangular-shaped tongue of the turbot consisted of three parts apex, body, and root. The thickness of the tongue continued to increase from the apex to the root. Although papillae were not observed in the macroscopic examination of the tongue, microscopic examination revealed the presence of cone-like shaped papillae on the submucosa. The tongue was composed of mucosa, submucosa, and hyaline cartilage. By SEM the presence of the taste buds (Types I and III), taste pores and papillae on the dorsal surface were demonstrated. Taste buds are the first descriptions in S. maximus. Therefore our results could add new data to the fish tongue anatomy. HIGHLIGHTS Morphological and morphometric data of the turbot (Scophthalmus maximus) tongue were obtained in this study and compared with other species. In addition, the dorsal surface of the turbot tongue was described for the first time using SEM.Activatable phototheranostics holds promise for precision cancer treatment owing to the "turn-on" signals and therapeutic effects. However, most activatable phototheranostic probes only possess photodynamic therapy (PDT) or photothermal therapy (PTT), which suffer from poor therapeutic efficacy due to deficient cellular oxygen and complex tumor microenvironment. We herein report a dual-locked activatable phototheranostic probe that activates near-infrared fluorescence (NIRF) signals in tumor, triggers PDT in response to a tumor-periphery biomarker, and switches from PDT to PTT upon detecting a tumor-core-hypoxia biomarker. Valemetostat This PDT-PTT auto-regulated probe exhibits complete tumor ablation under the photoirradiation of a single laser source by producing cytotoxic singlet oxygen at the tumor periphery and generating hyperthermia at tumor-core where is too hypoxic for PDT. This dual-locked probe represents a promising molecular design approach toward precise cancer phototheranostics.Adhesive patches are advanced but challenging alternatives to suture, especially in treating fragile internal organs. So far there is no suture-free adhesive patch based on metabolizable poly(amino acid) materials with excellent mechanical strength as well as immunomodulation functionality. Here, a polyglutamic acid-based elastic and tough adhesive patch modified by photosensitive groups on the surface to achieve robust light-activated adhesion and sealing of flexible internal organs is explored. With the porous internal morphology and excellent biodegradability, the patches promote regeneration through a macrophage-regulating microenvironment. Treated rabbits achieve rapid full-thickness gastric regeneration with complete functional structure within 14 d, suggesting its robust tissue adhesion and repair-promoting ability.Target therapy for highly heterogeneous cancers represents a major clinical challenge due to the lack of recurrent therapeutic targets identified in these tumors. Herein, the authors report a tumor-customized targeting photothermal therapy (PTT) strategy for highly heterogeneous cancers, by which 2D supramolecular self-assembled nanodiscs are modified with tumor-specific binding peptides identified by phage display techniques. Taking osteosarcoma (OS) as a model heterogeneous cancer, an OS targeting peptide (OTP) is first selected after biopanning and is demonstrated to successfully bind to this heterogeneous cancer cells/tissues. Successful conjugation of OTP to heptamethine cyanine (Cy7)-based 2D nanodiscs Cy7-TCF (2-dicyanomethylene-3-cyano-4,5,5-trimethyl-2,5-dihydrofuran,TCF) enables the 2D nanodiscs to specifically target the heterogeneous tumor. Notably, a single dose injection of this targeted nanodisc (T-ND) not only effectively induces enhanced photothermal tumor ablation under near-infrared light, but also exhibits sevenfold increase of tumor retention time (more than 24 days) compared to generic nanomedicine. Thus, the authors' findings suggest that the combination of phage display-based affinity peptides selection and 2D supramolecular nanodiscs leads to the development of a platform technology for highly heterogeneous cancers precise therapy, offering specific tumor targeting, ultralong tumor retention, and precise PTT.Shape-transforming block copolymer (BCP) microparticles have attracted extensive attention due to their promising applications in nanotechnology, biomedicines, interfacial science, and other fields. As their performance is highly associated to their shape and structure, it is very important to realize the precise control of particle shape. In this report, a method is proposed to regulate the shape and structure of polystyrene-b-polydimethoxysiloxane (PS-b-PDMS) microparticles by using positively charged core-crosslinked nanoparticles (CNPs) as a cosurfactant, combining with cationic surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB). The electrostatic repulsive interactions between CNPs and CTAB dominate the shape of PS-b-PDMS particles. Upon introducing NaCl, the electrostatic repulsion is reduced, resulting in the reshape of PS-b-PDMS particles from striped Janus ellipsoids to onion-like microspheres at a critical concentration of NaCl (cNaCl ). Interestingly, it is found that the critical cNaCl first increases then reaches a plateau, with the increase in the crosslinking degree of the CNPs. The work provides a simple strategy to tailor the morphology of BCPs by manipulating the electrostatic interaction.
This study aimed to characterize the critical points for determining the development of dysbiosis associated with feed intolerances and ruminal acidosis.
A metabologenomics approach was used to characterize dynamic microbial and metabolomics shifts using the rumen simulation technique (RUSITEC) by feeding native cornstarch (ST), chemically modified cornstarch (CMS), or sucrose (SU). SU and CMS elicited the most drastic changes as rapidly as 4h after feeding. This was accompanied by a swift accumulation of d-lactate, and the decline of benzoic and malonic acid. A consistent increase in Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus as well as a decrease in fibrolytic bacteria was observed for both CMS and ST after 24 h, indicating intolerances within the fibre degrading populations. However, an increase in Lactobacillus was already evident in SU after 8h. An inverse relationship between Fibrobacter and Bifidobacterium was observed in ST. In fact, Fibrobacter was positively correlated with several short-chain fatty acids, while Lactobacillus was positively correlated with lactic acid, hexoses, hexose-phosphates, pentose phosphate pathway (PENTOSE-P-PWY), and heterolactic fermentation (P122-PWY).
