The study was planned as a descriptive qualitative study to determine the emotional responses of neonatal intensive care nurses to work in the neonatal unit and to neonatal deaths. The sample of the study consisted of 7 nurses who work at the neonatal intensive care unit since data saturation was achieved. The data were collected using the "Semi-Structured In-Depth Interview Guide for Nurses". The data were analyzed using the content analysis method. Following codes were reached as a result of the study 'happiness-sadness', 'professional satisfaction-exhaustion', 'empathy', 'responsibility-guilt', 'hope-despair' under the theme of being a nurse at neonatal unit'; 'unforgettable first loss', 'professionalism in intervention-and then sadness, 'mature-premature difference', 'difficulty in giving hurtful news-inability to associate with death' and 'attachment-burnout' under the theme of experiencing neonatal loss.It was seen that nurses' emotions about working at neonatal intensive care unit were generally positive; however, these emotions changed to negative after neonate's relapsing and death.

A complicated mild traumatic brain injury (MTBI) is defined as mild by all clinical severity indicators but is complicated due to a traumatic intracranial abnormality visible on neuroimaging. Researchers have reported mixed findings regarding whether neuropsychological and functional outcomes following complicated MTBI are worse than, or similar to, outcomes following uncomplicated MTBI. This study examined patients referred from a Taiwanese emergency department to a neurosurgical outpatient clinic. Participants with complicated MTBI, uncomplicated MTBI, and those who did not undergo head computed tomography (CT) were compared on psychological, neuropsychological, and post-concussion symptom outcomes within 21days of injury.

Participants with complicated MTBI (

=42), uncomplicated MTBI (

=77), and no head CT (

=172) completed the Paced Auditory Serial Attention Test, Taiwanese Word Sequence Learning Test, a semantic Verbal Fluency Test, the Checklist of Post-Concussion Symptoms, and the Beck Depressmparable outcomes between those with complicated and uncomplicated MTBIs. This study is limited by small sample size and minimal information on intracranial abnormalities, broadly categorizing groups based on positive or negative neuroimaging as opposed to specific lesion types and locations. An experimental novel antiaging intervention strategy is based on the concept of parabiosis, which involves long-term treatment with factors derived from young blood facilitating rejuvenation of old individuals. In this study, we employed blood plasma from young rats as an intervention strategy to evaluate whether this could impact aging biomarkers in aged rats. The biomarkers studied include reactive oxygen species, the ferric reducing ability of plasma, plasma membrane redox system, reduced glutathione, malondialdehyde, protein carbonyl, and advanced oxidation protein products in blood. Additionally, the level of tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin-6 were also estimated in blood. We found that old rats injected with plasma from young rats were protected from oxidative stress. Pyrvinium in vivo Thus, this study provides some evidence of the rejuvenating effects of young plasma. We hypothesize that young plasma may contain certain "factors," which may be responsible for the observed effects. The mechanism of action is not clearly understood and is open to further studies.Systemic inflammation impacts outcome after traumatic brain injury (TBI), but most TBI biomarker studies have focused on brain-specific proteins. C-reactive protein (CRP) is a widely used biomarker of inflammation with potential as a prognostic biomarker after TBI. The Transforming Research and Clinical Knowledge in Traumatic Brain Injury (TRACK-TBI) study prospectively enrolled TBI patients within 24 h of injury, as well as orthopedic injury and uninjured controls; biospecimens were collected at enrollment. A subset of hospitalized participants had blood collected on day 3, day 5, and 2 weeks. High-sensitivity CRP (hsCRP) and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) were measured. Receiver operating characteristic analysis was used to evaluate the prognostic ability of hsCRP for 6-month outcome, using the Glasgow Outcome Scale-Extended (GOSE). We included 1206 TBI subjects, 122 orthopedic trauma controls (OTCs), and 209 healthy controls (HCs). Longitudinal biomarker sampling was performed in 254 hospitalized TBI subjects and 19 OTCs. hsCRP rose between days 1 and 5 for TBI and OTC subjects, and fell by 2 weeks, but remained elevated compared with HCs (p  less then  0.001). Longitudinally, hsCRP was significantly higher in the first 2 weeks for subjects with death/severe disability (GOSE less then 5) compared with those with moderate disability/good recovery (GOSE ≥5); AUC was highest at 2 weeks (AUC = 0.892). Combining hsCRP and GFAP at 2 weeks produced AUC = 0.939 for prediction of disability. Serum hsCRP measured within 2 weeks of TBI is a prognostic biomarker for disability 6 months later. hsCRP may have utility as a biomarker of target engagement for anti-inflammatory therapies.Aim This article aims to describe the study design, including descriptive statistics on changes in response rates, characteristics associated with response and response mode distribution, in the Danish National Health Survey (DNHS) in 2010, 2013 and 2017. Methods Each survey was based on five regional stratified random samples and one national random sample drawn from the Danish Civil Registration System. The subsamples were mutually exclusive. Around 300,000 individuals (aged ⩾16 years) were invited to participate in each survey using a mixed-mode approach (paper/web). A questionnaire with a minimum of 52 questions was used in all subsamples. In 2010 and 2013, invitations were sent via the regular postal service, whereas a secure electronical mail service was used to invite the majority (around 90%) in 2017. Weights accounted for survey design and non-response. Results Participation decreased from 59.5% in 2010 to 54.0% in 2013 after which it increased to 58.7% in 2017. The proportion answering the web questionnaire increased from 31.
