We present the first meta-analysis of telomere length heritability, using 104 estimates from 43 studies over 18 vertebrate species. We calculated an overall mean heritability and examined how estimates varied by study, phylogeny, species-specific ecology, environmental setting, age at sampling, laboratory methods, statistical methods, sex and repeated measurements. Overall heritability was moderate (44.9%, 95% CI 25.2-64.7%), and there was considerable heterogeneity in heritability estimates, in particular among studies and estimates. Laboratory method influenced heritability estimates, with in-gel hybridization TRF yielding higher heritabilities than qPCR and Southern blot TRF. There was also an effect from statistical method, with twin-based and SNP-based estimates lower than correlation-based or pedigree-based estimates. In contrast, centering did not increase the likelihood that infants looked at a given face, but in later childhood and adulthood, centering became a stronger cue for face looking. A control analysis determined that the age-related change in centering was specific to face looking; participants of all ages were more likely to look at the center of the image, and this center bias did not change with age. Among 151 adults with acute myelitis, 11 (7.3%) tested positive for MOG-IgG by the initial screening and 10 (6.6%) patients were finally diagnosed with MOGAD during the study period. This study is the first to provide data on MOG-IgG seroprevalence in adults with myelitis and supports the clinical utility and importance of MOG-IgG testing in myelitis episodes.

The likelihood that obesity fundamentally alters T-cell metabolism and thus chronic obesity-associated inflammation is high, but studies testing causal relationships remain underrepresented. We searched PubMed for key words including mitochondria, obesity, T cell, type 2 diabetes, cristae, fission, fusion, redox, and reactive oxygen species to identify foundational and more recent studies that address these topics or cite foundational work. We investigated primary papers cited by reviews found in these searches and highlighted recent work with >100 citations to illustrate the state of the art in understanding mechanisms that control metabolism and thus function of various T-cell subsets in obesity. However, "popularity" of a paper over the first 5 years after publication cannot assess long-term impact; thus, some likely important work with fewer citations is also highlighted. We feature studies of human cells, supplementing with studies from animal models that suggest future directions for human cell research.
