Solute carriers are increasingly recognized as participating in a plethora of pathologies, including cancer. We describe here the involvement of the orphan solute carrier Major Facilitator Superfamily Domain-containing protein 1 (MFSD1) in the regulation of tumor cell migration. Loss of MFSD1 enabled higher levels of metastasis in experimental and spontaneous metastasis mouse models. We identified an increased migratory potential in MFSD1-/- tumor cells which was mediated by increased focal adhesion turnover, reduced stability of mature inactive β1 integrin, and the resulting increased integrin activation index. We show that MFSD1 promoted recycling to the cell surface of endocytosed inactive β1 integrin and thereby protected β1 integrin from proteolytic degradation; this led to dampening of the integrin activation index. Furthermore, downregulation of MFSD1 expression was observed during the early steps of tumorigenesis, and higher MFSD1 expression levels correlate with a better cancer patient prognosis. In sum, we describe a requirement for endolysosomal MFSD1 in efficient β1 integrin recycling to suppress tumor cell dissemination.

Breast cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers among women in the United States and pain is the most common side effect of breast cancer and its treatment. Yet, the relationships between social determinants of pain and pain experience/intensity remain under-investigated. We examined the associations between social determinants of pain both at the individual level and the neighborhood level to understand how social conditions are associated with pain perception among early stage breast cancer patients.

We conducted integrated statistical analysis of 1,191 women with early stage breast cancer treated at a large cancer center in Memphis, Tennessee. Combining electronic health records, patient-reported data and census data regarding residential address at the time of first diagnosis, we evaluated the relationships between social determinants and pain perception. Pain responses were self-reported by a patient as a numerical rating scale score at the patient's initial diagnosis and follow-up clinic compared to patients from less distressed neighborhoods. Therefore, post-diagnosis pain treatment design needs to be tailored to the social determinants of the breast cancer patients.

Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is a highly malignant glioma that rarely presents as an infratentorial tumor. Multicentric (MC) gliomas involve lesions widely separated in space or time, and MC gliomas involving supra- and infratentorial brain regions are rare. In most cases, the infratentorial lesion is seen after surgical manipulation or radiation therapy; it is typically located in the cerebellum or the cervical region, manifesting as metastasis originating from the brain. Besides, venous thromboembolism in brain tumors is usually seen after craniotomy.

We present an uncommon adult case of symptomatic H3K27M-mutant MC glioblastoma simultaneously present in the brain, fourth ventricle, and cervical and lumbar spinal cord regions accompanied by acute pulmonary artery embolism in an adult woman who had not undergone previous therapeutic interventions. We also review the literature on this interesting presentation.

infestation in sheep in the Dendi district of West Shewa Zone, Ethiopia.

A cross-sectional study was conducted from November 2017 to April 2018, to estimate the prevalence, risk factors, and larval burden, and identify common predilection sites for

larvae. A total of 180 sheep heads were randomly selected from five purposely selected restaurants in Ginchi town, Dendi district, transported to the laboratory, opened with a hand saw, and visually examined for infestations. The larvae were collected from positive sheep heads and counted. The sites where the larvae were obtained were recorded. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 20 software.

Aortic coarctation in the adult is usually associated with chronic systemic hypertension, which leads to the sequelae of congestive heart failure, vascular dysfunction and decreased lifespan. Open and endovascular treatment modalities both provide excellent procedural outcomes with minimal mortality and morbidity, but a structured algorithm for workup and periprocedural decision making is not well established. We outline our heart team decision making approach along with our institution's experience treating this condition.

We retrospectively reviewed twenty-four consecutive adult patients treated for aortic coarctation since 2010 at a single center. Outcomes of interest included mortality, treatment approach, device used and post-procedure hypertension status. We describe our protocol for work-up and intervention decision making. We explain our rationale for recommending treatment and the approach, open or endovascular, using existing literature and our experience.

Patients with genetic or heritable aortic conditions and thoracic aortic aneurysm syndrome often develop cardiovascular abnormalities originating at the aortic root and affecting the entire thoracoabdominal aorta. Although thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) is usually avoided in these patients, TEVAR may be worthwhile for those at high risk for surgical complications and in certain emergency circumstances. We explored indications for TEVAR in patients with suspected or confirmed genetic or heritable aortic conditions and investigated early and mid-term outcomes.

Our institutional aortic surgery database was queried for patients with suspected or confirmed Marfan syndrome, Loeys-Dietz syndrome, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Turner syndrome, neurofibromatosis, or familial aortic aneurysm and dissection who underwent TEVAR between February 1, 2002 and October 31, 2020. There is, however, a subset of patients for whom open surgery is considered to pose high or prohibitive risk. These patients can benefit from a less invasive approach with catheters and wires, percutaneous techniques and stent grafts. However, the existing technology was developed to treat descending thoracic aortic pathologies; it is not approved for use in the AA by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The devices used for the descending thoracic aorta (DTA) have certain size and design limitations that make their application to the AA cumbersome at times. As a result, custom-made endografts have been used to treat pathologies in the AA, although their use is feasible only in elective procedures. In addition, the AA has specific anatomic and physiologic characteristics that raise concerns about the long-term durability of the current technology.
