Traditional surgical methods have high complication rate and large injury in the resection of adult polycystic kidney. We investigated the effect of retroperitoneal laparoscopic resection of adult polycystic kidney assisted by arterial embolization.

The data of adult polycystic kidney patients who underwent laparoscopic surgery assisted by arterial embolization from November 2015 to November 2018 in our hospital were retrospectively analyzed, and the data of patients who underwent open surgery during the same period were collected. The basic data, surgical conditions, postoperative recover situation, and complications of the two groups were compared.

There was no significant difference in the basic situation between the laparoscopic operation group and open operation (control) group. The bleeding volume, hospitalization time, and the length of incision in the laparoscopic operation group were significantly better than those in the open operation (control) group, but the operation time was significantly longer than that in the open operation group. There was no significant difference in drainage tube extraction time, bed rest time and blood transfusion rate between the two groups. There was no significant difference in the complication rate between the two groups.

This retrospective study aimed to investigate whether a three-dimensional (3D) model would improve the achievement of TRIFECTA, which was defined as the absence of perioperative complications and positive surgical margins and a warm ischemia time of <25 minutes, during robot-assisted partial nephrectomy (RAPN).

Prior to RAPN, a 3D-square type kidney model was prepared and used for all RAPN procedures in patients with T1a renal cell carcinoma (RCC) treated at a single center between March 2016 and April 2019. All RAPN procedures were performed by a single surgeon.

The study included 50 patients, of whom 22, 24, and 4 had low-, intermediate-, and high-risk R.E.N.A.L Nephrometry scores, respectively. The TRIFECTA achievement rate was 86.0%, and transfusion or conversion to radical nephrectomy was not required in any of the patients. Only one Clavien-Dindo grade 3 complication was reported-a pseudoaneurysm that required embolism. The TRIFECTA achievement rate was independent of the R.E.N.A.L Nephrometry scores and the surgeon's experience level (25 cases each of early and advanced experience).

Alternative reservoir placement is increasingly popular during inflatable penile prosthesis (IPP) surgery to prevent intraperitoneal positioning, bowel, bladder, or vascular injury in patients with prior pelvic surgeries. Counter incision (CI) can be used for submuscular reservoir placement in high risk patients, however series exploring the safety remain limited.

A database of IPP surgeries was queried for use of a CI during reservoir placement to compare 90-day clinical outcomes in a retrospective case-control study. Primary outcome was device infections, with secondary outcomes including reservoir herniation, hematoma, device malfunction rates, and operative times. Groups were compared using Kruskal-Wallis and Chi-Squared tests, with multivariate logistic regression models to identify predictors of infectious complications.

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is one of the most prevalent malignant tumors of the urinary system. Hypertension can cause hypertensive nephropathy (HN). We analyzed co-expressed genes to find out the relationship between hypertension and RCC and show possible biomarkers and novel therapeutic targets of hypertension-related RCC.

This study aimed to compare the World Health Organization/International Society of Urological Pathology (WHO/ISUP) grading system and the Fuhrman grading system and to verify the WHO/ISUP grade as a prognostic parameter of clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) in a Chinese population.

The study consisted of 753 ccRCC patients treated with curative surgery between 2010 and 2018 at Xiangya Hospital Central South University (Changsha, China). All pathologic data were retrospectively reviewed by two pathologists. Cancer-specific survival (CSS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS) were examined as clinical outcomes.

According to the WHO/ISUP grading system (ISUP group), nephrectomy type, pT stage and WHO/ISUP grade were independent risk factors for CSS (P<0.0001, P=0.0127 and P<0.0001, respectively) and RFS (P<0.0001, P=0.0077, and P<0.0001, respectively). In the Fuhrman group, nephrectomy type, pT stage and Fuhrman grade were independent risk factors for CSS (P<0.0001, P=0.0004, and P<0.0001, respectively) and RFS (P<0.0001, P=0.0001, and P<0.0001, respectively). The C-index for CSS and RFS using the Fuhrman grading system was 0.6323 and 0.6342, respectively, and that using the WHO/ISUP grading system was 0.6983 and 0.7005, respectively, both higher than the former (P=0.0185, and P=0.0172, respectively). Using TCGA database analysis, we found that the expression of IL-9 in renal clear cell carcinoma was significantly down-regulated, and was significantly related to survival. We then verified this using experiments. We enrolled 66 patients who underwent surgical resection of renal tumors between January and December 2018 at the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University. Their tumor tissues were paired with adjacent normal tissues and IL-9 expression levels were measured using immunohistochemistry.
