The nonstationarity of EEG/MEG signals is important for understanding the functioning of the human brain. From our previous research we know that short, 250-500-ms MEG signals are variance-nonstationary. The covariance of a stochastic process is mathematically associated with its spectral density, therefore we investigate how the spectrum of such nonstationary signals varies in time.

We analyse data from 148-channel MEG, which represent rest state, unattended listening, and frequency-modulated tones classification. We transform short-time MEG signals to the frequency domain and for the dominant frequencies of 8-12Hz we prepare the time series representing their trial-to-trial variability. Then, we test them for level- and trend-stationarity, unit root, heteroscedasticity, and gaussianity, and propose ARMA-modelling for their description.

To determine uptake of cardiac screening and recurrence of bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) and thoracic aortic aneurysm (TAA) in a population of at-risk siblings of pediatric probands.

A retrospective chart review of pediatric patients with known BAV and/or TAA was performed. Echocardiogram data from identified siblings were collected to determine screening uptake and recurrence of BAV and TAA. Statistical analyses were performed using Wilcoxon signed-rank test and chi-square.

The cohort included 251 probands and 388 at-risk siblings. Among the siblings, 150 had at least 1 echocardiogram, giving an overall screening uptake of 38.7%. The only factor found to be associated with increased uptake was documented recommendation for screening of first-degree relatives in the proband's initial cardiology note (P=.03). A total of 11 screened siblings (7.3%) had BAV and 19 had TAA (12.7%), with an overall combined recurrence of 15.3%. Siblings of probands who had both BAV and TAA had increased recurrence of TAA compang in at-risk siblings while counseling families about hereditary risk for BAV and TAA may help improve uptake and optimize clinical management in at-risk pediatric patients.

ELF was measured at baseline and weeks 24, 48, and 96 on sera from 166 TONIC participants. Associations between ELF with baseline and end of trial (EOT) fibrosis stages and other histologic features were assessed using χ

ELF was significantly associated with severity of fibrosis at baseline and EOT. ELF areas under the curve for discriminating patients with clinically significant and advanced fibrosis were 0.70 (95% CI, 0.60-0.80) and 0.79 (95% CI, 0.69-0.89), respectively. A 1-unit decrease in ELF at EOT was associated with overall histologic improvement (OR, 1.86; 95% CI, 1.11-3.14; P = .02), resolution of steatohepat nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.

To describe the parental experience of recruitment and assess differences between parents who participated and those who declined to enroll in a neonatal clinical trial.

This was a survey conducted at 12 US neonatal intensive care units of parents of infants who enrolled in the High-dose Erythropoietin for Asphyxia and encephaLopathy (HEAL) trial or who were eligible but declined enrollment. Questions assessed 6 factors of the parental experience of recruitment (1) interactions with research staff; (2) the consent experience; (3) perceptions of the study; (4) decisional conflict; (5) reasons for/against participation; and (6) timing of making the enrollment decision.

In total, 269 of 387 eligible parents, including 183 of 242 (75.6%) of those who enrolled their children in HEAL and 86 of 145 (59.3%) parents who declined to enroll their children in HEAL, were included in analysis. Parents who declined to enroll more preferred to be approached by clinical team members rather than by research team members (72.9% vs 49.2%, P=.005). Enrolled parents more frequently reported positive initial impressions (54.9% vs 10.5%, P<.001). Many parents in both groups made their decision early in the recruitment process. Considerations of reasons for/against participation differed by enrollment status.

Systematic searches were undertaken of scientific databases along with searches of published bibliographies to identify English language reviews on the topic of paraquat and Parkinson's disease including those on the broader topic of environmental and occupational risk factors for Parkinson's disease. Of the 269 publications identified in the searches, there were twelve reviews, some with meta-analyses, that met the inclusion criteria. Information on methods used by the reviewers, if any, and source of funding was collected; the quality of the reviews was considered. No author of any published review stated that it has been established that exposure to paraquat causes Parkinson's disease, regardless of methods used and independent of funding source. A consensus exists in the scientific community that the available evidence does not warrant a claim that paraquat causes Parkinson's disease. Future research on this topic should focus on improving the quality of epidemiological studies including better exposure measures and identifying specific mechanisms of action. The estrous cycle was evaluated by microscopic observation of vaginal smear, as well as by changes in uterine histology. Much attention has been paid to the ability of probiotics to modulate inflammation and immune responses. In this work, the toxic effects of DON on the liver and the protective effects of Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (LGG) were investigated. We treated mice with oral gavage of DON (2.4 mg/kg bw/day), LGG (1 × 109 CFU/mouse/day) or both for 28 days. The results showed that DON triggered liver inflammation, reflected by pathological changes and liver function damage but LGG oral administration significantly attenuated these changes. Notably, DON treatment activated the TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway which contribute to produce inflammatory cytokines, but oral administration of LGG inhibited all the effects of DON. DON treatment can also induce oxidative stress and activate Keap1-Nrf2 signaling pathway, leading to the activation of Nrf2 and the downstream genes, while LGG treatment can improve the antioxidant capacity of liver and protected mice from DON injury. link3 In conclusion, LGG was able to negate the detrimental effects of DON on the liver and may contribute as a potential dietary intervention strategy to reduce mycotoxicity.

The aim of this nonrandomized, multicenter controlled clinical trial was to evaluate the impact of leukocyte-platelet-rich fibrin (LPRF) on regenerative endodontic procedures (REPs) of immature permanent teeth in terms of periapical bone healing (PBH) and further root development (RD).

Healthy patients between 6-25years with an inflamed or necrotic immature permanent tooth were included and divided between the test (= REP+LPRF) and control (= REP-LPRF) group depending on their compliance and the clinical setting (university hospital or private practice). After receiving REP ± LPRF, the patients were recalled after 3, 6, 12, 24, and 36months. At each recall session, the teeth were clinically and radiographically (by means of a periapical radiograph [PR]) evaluated. A cone-beam computed tomographic (CBCT) imaging was taken preoperatively and 2 and 3years postoperatively. PBH and RD were quantitatively and qualitatively assessed.

Twenty-nine teeth with a necrotic pulp were included, from which 23 (9 test and 14 control) were analyzed.
