Pediatric palliative care has established benefits for children with cancer and their families. Overcoming organizational and healthcare provider barriers have been demonstrated as central for the provision of palliative care in pediatric oncology. A deeper understanding is needed of the influence of these barriers and the interactions between them, specifically in primary palliative care in hospital settings.

This study utilized the grounded theory method. Semi-structured interviews were conducted and analyzed line by line, using NVivo software.

This study investigates the nature and extent of healthcare provision for persons with intellectual disabilities in their respective special schools. This research adopted a qualitative, but participatory approach to collect data from respective stakeholders. The findings reveal that some of these special schools do not have professional health workers, and most healthcare providers have challenges diagnosing and prescribing medication for this population due to the health workers' limited understanding of their healthcare needs, coupled with communication barriers. The researchers have suggested setting up of a special health department with personnel who have received training on intellectual disabilities. This department must undertake training for the housemothers in special schools, parents in the communities, and teachers in special schools.We investigated general practitioners' (GPs') responses to patients' concerns in chronic care consultations. Video recordings of 14 consultations were analyzed with conversation analysis. We found two categories of responses exiting and exploring the patient's concerns. Most GPs exited the concern by interrupting the patient, acknowledging the concern but then referring back to the progression of the consultation, or affiliating with the concern without exploring it. Only a few raised concerns were explored, and then most often the somatic rather than the emotional aspects of them. The findings point to the risk of missing patients' voiced concerns in consultations with a fixed agenda.

This was a systematic review to describe the course of severe poisoning and deaths from benzonatate supplemented with the National Poison Data System (NPDS) fatalities module.

The NPDS was queried from 2000 to 2018 for benzonatate fatalities. Pubmed, Cochrane, Embase, and Google Scholar were searched for combinations of benzonatate and "poisoning," "overdose," and "toxicity." References of relevant articles were searched for additional publications. Articles were included if they described the clinical course of at least one patient suffering from benzonatate poisoning and available in English. Dual independent review and extraction were performed.

Seventeen cases from NPDS and 19 published reports met the inclusion criteria resulting in 36 cases, mostly (28/36) self-harm ingestions. Most patients were young [17 (11-29), median (IQR)] and female (22). Onset of toxicity was rapid at <5 min (9). Most common symptoms included cardiac arrest (29), seizures (24), and dysrhythmias (24). Treatments included intubation (26), cardiopulmonary resuscitation (28), vasopressors (20) and others. Return of spontaneous circulation was achieved in 23/28 patients, but most had significant neurologic deficits or other end organ damage and 5 survived with a good neurologic outcome.

Patients experiencing acute neurological injury often receive hourly neurological assessments ("neurochecks") to capture signs of deterioration. While commonly utilized in the intensive care unit (ICU) setting, little is known regarding practices (i.e., variations by age and ordering services) and patterns (i.e., duration and post-discontinuation plans) of hourly neurochecks. To inform future quality improvement intervention efforts, we performed an analysis of hourly neurochecks using an electronic health record-based dataset.

To identify evidenced based practice when training staff on BSPs, it is necessary to evaluate active and feasible training components from current training models.
