Thus, it was revealed, that polar compounds could have considerable contribution to the antibacterial activity of acetone and methanol extracts of H. alpestre and R. obtusifolius. It was hypothesized, that complex compounds can be responsible for the antibacterial action of extracts of A. eupatoria and S. officinalis. Based on obtained data, A. eupatoria, H. alpestre, R. obtusifolius and S. officinalis plants can be recommended as sources of new antibacterial agents.BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to verify the predictors of recurrence and survival in lung adenocarcinoma patients with experiences of breast cancer therapies. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed consecutive patients who were treated at our hospital for lung adenocarcinoma from 2004/01 to 2014/03. The patients were divided into groups of those with lung adenocarcinoma alone and those with lung and breast cancer. Kaplan-Meier plots and log-rank tests were used to estimate outcomes. RESULTS 54 patients with lung adenocarcinoma and breast cancer were compared with 457 patients with single primary lung adenocarcinomas. After propensity score matching with control of age, operation type, smoking status and pathologic stage, tumor differentiation, recurrence rate and tumor size were significantly different between two groups. The significant predictors for recurrence included undergone chemotherapy (HR = 25, p  less then  0.001), moderate/poor differentiation (HR = 8.125, p = 0.012), tumor size ≧ 2 cm (HR = 1e.PURPOSE Several scoring systems have been proposed to predict the outcome of transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, the application of these scores to a bridging to transplant setting is poorly validated. Evaluation of the applicability of prognostic scores for patients undergoing TACE in palliative intention vs. bridging therapy to liver transplantation (LT) is necessary. METHODS Between 2008 and 2017, 148 patients with HCC received 492 completed TACE procedures (158 for bridging to transplant; 334 TACE procedures in palliative treatment intention at our center and were analyzed retrospectively. SR-4370 HDAC inhibitor Scores (ART, CLIP, ALBI, APRI, SNACOR, HAP, STATE score, Child-Pugh, MELD, Okuda and BCLC) were calculated and evaluated for prediction of overall survival. ROC analysis was performed to assess prediction of 3-year survival and treatment discontinuation. RESULTS In patients receiving TACE in palliative intention most scores predicted OS in univariate analysis but only mSNACOR score (p = 0.006), State score (p  less then  0.001) and Child-Pugh score (p  less then  0.001) revealed statistical significance in the multivariate analysis. In the bridging to LT cohort only the BCLC score revealed statistical significance (p = 0.002). CONCLUSIONS Clinical usability of suggested scoring systems for TACE might be limited depending on the individual patient cohorts and the indication. Especially in patients receiving TACE as bridging to LT none of the scores showed sufficiently applicability. In our study Child-Pugh score, STATE score and mSNACOR score showed the best performance assessing OS in patients with TACE as palliative therapy.PURPOSE Presently, liver cancer is still one of the malignant tumors with high mortality. As far as the treatment of liver cancer is concerned, the most effective method is still liver transplantation. But every year, many liver cancer patients die from the lack of a proper liver transplant, or from waiting for a liver transplant. Therefore, it is very important to find new and effective treatment for patients with liver cancer. METHODS Herein, the cell model and the orthotropic liver tumor mice model have been performed to verify the results of our treatment. We found that the in situ synthesized gold nanocluster-PTEN (GNC-PTEN) complexes can effectively target and realize the fluorescence imaging of the liver tumor. RESULTS GNC-PTEN complexes could inhibit the proliferation, invasion, and metastasis of liver cancer cells. And the results also showed that GNC-PTEN complexes could be well targeted liver tumor at 6 h and the liver tumor in mice group treated with GNC-PTEN complexes almost disappeared. CONCLUSION This is a simply and effectively method to realize liver cancer imaging and inhibition. This may raise the possibility for the accurate image/diagnosis and simultaneously efficient treatment of liver cancer in the relevant clinic application. In order to explore the neural mechanism underlying salamander terrestrial turning, an improved biomechanical model is proposed by modifying the forelimb structure of the existing biomechanical model. Based on the proposed improved biomechanical model, a new spinal locomotor network model is constructed which contains the interneuron networks and motoneuron pool. Control methods are also developed for the new model which increase its transient response speed, control the initial swing order of the forelimbs, and generate different walking turning gait and turning on the spot (turning without moving forward). The simulation results show that the biomechanical model controlled by the new spinal locomotor network model can generate different walking turning and turning on the spot, and can control posture and the initial swing order of the forelimbs. Moreover, the transient response speed of the proposed model is very rapid. This paper thus provides a useful tool for exploring the operational mechanism of the spinal circuitry of the salamander. In addition, the research results presented here may inspire the construction of artificial spinal control networks for bionic robots. How spiking activity reverberates through neuronal networks, how evoked and spontaneous activity interacts and blends, and how the combined activities represent external stimulation are pivotal questions in neuroscience. We simulated minimal models of unstructured spiking networks in silico, asking whether and how gentle external stimulation might be subsequently reflected in spontaneous activity fluctuations. Consistent with earlier findings in silico and in vitro, we observe a privileged subpopulation of 'pioneer neurons' that, by their firing order, reliably encode previous external stimulation. We also confirm that pioneer neurons are 'sensitive' in that they are recruited by small fluctuations of population activity. We show that order-based representations rely on a 'chain' of pioneer neurons with different degrees of sensitivity and thus constitute an emergent property of collective dynamics. The forming of such representations is greatly favoured by a broadly heterogeneous connection topology-a broad 'middle class' in degree of connectedness.
