In conclusion, our findings support the hypothesis that resident CD34+SCs/TCs participate as an important source of CAFs in ILC. Further studies are required in this regard in other tumours. The O-glycosylation of resveratrol increases both its solubility in water and its bioavailability while preventing its oxidation, allowing a more efficient use of this molecule as a bioactive ingredient in pharmaceutical and cosmetic applications. Resveratrol O-glycosides can be obtained by enzymatic reactions. Recent developments have made it possible to selectively obtain resveratrol α-glycosides from the β-cyclodextrin-resveratrol complex in water with a yield of 35%. However, this yield is limited by the partial hydrolysis of the resveratrol glycosides produced during the reaction. In this study, we propose to intensify this enzymatic reaction by coupling the enzymatic reactor to a membrane process. Firstly, membrane screening was carried out at the laboratory scale and led to the choice of a GE polymeric membrane with a cut-off of 1 kDa. This membrane allowed the retention of 65% of the β-cyclodextrin-resveratrol complex in the reaction medium and the transfer of 70% of the resveratrol α-O-glycosides in the permeate. In a second step, this membrane was used in an enzymatic membrane reactor and improved the yield of the enzymatic glycosylation up to 50%.Episodic angioedema with eosinophilia (EAE) (Gleich's syndrome) is a rare disease characterized by hypereosinophilia (up to 95 × 109 cells/L), recurrent episodes of angioedema, urticaria, weight gain, and fever, that occur at periodical intervals (usually every 3-4 weeks). The exact etiology of EAE is still unclear, but both eosinophils and abnormalities of cytokines homeostasis seem to play a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of the disease. In particular, the cyclic elevation of serum interleukin-5 before the increase in eosinophil count has been reported. Herein, we performed a broad literature review and report the case of a thirty-two-year-old woman with a two-year history of cyclic angioedema attacks, urticaria, periodic weight gain, and severe hypereosinophilia, diagnosed with EAE and treated with oral corticosteroids. Describing the most relevant clinical features of EAE reported so far in the literature, we aim to provide physicians with some useful tools to help them deal with this disease. In addition, we aim to raise awareness about this rare condition in which approved diagnostic classification criteria are currently missing. Background and objectives Diabetes may affect in-hospital mortality of patients with Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). We have retrospectively evaluated clinical characteristics, diabetes management, and outcomes in a sample of COVID-19 patients with diabetes admitted to our hospital. Materials and Methods All patients admitted to the Infectious Diseases Unit from 28 March 2020, to 16 June 2020, were enrolled. Clinical information and biochemical parameters were collected at the time of admission. Patients were ranked according to diabetes and death. Results Sixty-one patients with COVID-19 were analyzed. Most of them were from a long-term health care facility. Mean age was 77 ± 16 years, and 19 had type 2 diabetes (T2D). Eighteen patients died, including 8 with T2D and 10 without T2D (p = 0.15). Patients with diabetes were significantly older, had a higher prevalence of cardiovascular diseases, and a significantly lower lymphocyte count. No significant relationship was found between diabetes and in-hospital mortality (Odds Ratio OR 2.3; Confidence Interval CI 0.73-7.38, p = 0.15). Patients with diabetes were treated with insulin titration algorithm. Severe hypoglycemic events, ketoacidosis and hyperosmolar hyperglycemias did not occur during hospitalization. Mean pre-meal capillary blood glucose was 157 ± 45 mg/dL, and the coefficient of variation of glycaemia was 29%. Conclusions Our study, albeit limited by the small number of subjects, did not describe any significant association between T2D diabetes and mortality. Clinical characteristics of patients, and acceptable glucose control prior and during hospitalization may have influenced the result. The use of an insulin titration algorithm should be pursued during hospitalization. Background Cancer development after cholecystectomy remains debatable. We estimated the major cancer incidence rates after cholecystectomy stratified by age and sex. Methods The records of 408,769 subjects aged >20 years were extracted from the National Health Insurance database from 2008 to 2016. The risks of major cancers were compared between the cholecystectomy and general populations using standardised incidence ratios (SIR). Results The overall cancer incidence was comparable between cholecystectomy patients and the general population. However, patients aged less then 65 years who underwent cholecystectomy had a higher cancer risk than those aged ≥65 years and the general population (SIR 2.62; 95% confidence interval [CI] 2.15-3.08; SIR 1.36, 95% CI 1.32-1.40; and SIR 0.90, 95% CI 0.87-0.92 in men and SIR 1.91; 95% CI 1.71-2.10; SIR 1.07; 95% CI 1.03-1.10; and SIR 0.90; 95% CI 0.87-0.94 in women aged 20-34, 35-64, and ≥65 years at cholecystectomy). Colorectal and liver cancer incidences after cholecystectomy were higher than those in the general population regardless of age group and sex (SIR, 1.55 for colorectal cancer in men and women; SIR, 1.25 and 1.51 for liver cancer in men and women, respectively). However, for other major cancers, the risk was higher in patients who underwent cholecystectomy at a younger age than in those who underwent cholecystectomy at an age ≥65 years. Conclusion Patients with cholecystectomy, especially those undergoing cholecystectomy at a younger age, need preventive strategies based on the cancer type. The spider family Sicariidae includes three genera, Hexophthalma, Sicarius and Loxosceles. The three genera share a common characteristic in their venoms the presence of Sphingomyelinases D (SMase D). Selleck Vacuolin-1 SMases D are considered the toxins that cause the main pathological effects of the Loxosceles venom, that is, those responsible for the development of loxoscelism. Some studies have shown that Sicarius spiders have less or undetectable SMase D activity in their venoms, when compared to Hexophthalma. In contrast, our group has shown that Sicarius ornatus, a Brazilian species, has active SMase D and toxic potential to envenomation. However, few species of Sicarius have been characterized for their toxic potential. In order to contribute to a better understanding about the toxicity of Sicarius venoms, the aim of this study was to characterize the toxic properties of male and female venoms from Sicarius tropicus and compare them with that from Loxosceles laeta, one of the most toxic Loxosceles venoms. We show here that S.
