CTRL. Antioxidant Mn-activated superoxide dismutase (SOD2) and (m)-aconitase activities were increased in HCM vs. CTRL. The Cu/Zn-activated superoxide dismutase (SOD1) amount and mtDNA copy number were unaltered in HCM. Total Ca2+-activated ATPase activity and absolute amount were not different HCM vs. CTRL, but the ratio between ATPase sarcoplasmic/endoplasmic reticulum Ca2+ transporting type 2 (ATP2A2) and type 1 (ATP2A1), ATP2A2/ATP2A1, was increased in HCM in favor of the slow isoform (ATP2A2). Conclusion HCM is characterized by mitochondrial Complex I hyperactivity and preserved Ca2+-activated ATPase activity with a partial switch towards slow ATP2A2. This data may give insight into the abnormal cellular energetics observed in HCM cardiomyopathy but other studies would need to be performed to confirm the observations described here.Avian influenza virus (AIV) remains one of the enzootic zoonotic diseases that challenges the poultry industry in Egypt. In the present study, a total of 500 tissue samples were collected from 100 chicken farms (broilers and layers) suspected to be infected with AIV through the period from 2009 to 2019 from Dakahlia governorate, Egypt. These samples were pooled in 100 working samples and screened for AIV then the positive samples were subjected to histopathological examination combined with real time-polymerase chain reaction (RRT-PCR). RRT-PCR positive samples were also subjected to conventional reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) for detection of H5 AIV and some of these resulting positive samples were sequenced for detection of the molecular nature of the studied virus. Interestingly, the histopathological examination revealed necrotic liver with leukocytic infiltration with degenerative changes with necrotic pancreatitis, edema, and intense lymphoid depletion of splenic tissue and hyptrolling such disease of public health concern.A surge of interest in microneedle (MN) vaccines as a novel vaccination system has emerged. Before the clinical application of MN vaccine, an assessment of potential biological risks to skin and quality control of MN must be performed. Therefore, the present study aims to evaluate the physicochemical properties of MN and to evaluate the histological changes and inflammatory cell infiltrations after the application of MN with hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg). During in vitro and in vivo release testing, HBsAg MN released over 70% of HBsAg at 30 min. During the pyrogen test of HBsAg MN in rabbit, no rabbit showed an individual rise in temperature of 0.5 °C or more. MN with HBsAg produced the moderate immunization in mice. MN application did not alter the thickness of dermal and epidermal layers in mice. In addition, the topical applications of MN and MN for hepatitis B vaccine did not acutely induce the inflammation, allergic reaction, dermal toxicity and skin irritation. Selleck CDDP Thus, the MN system for the delivery of HBsAg could be the promising technology in the hepatitis B vaccination.A good perception of the vaccines administered during pregnancy favors immunization coverage, which is still not optimal for the influenza vaccine. To understand the predisposition towards vaccination in future pregnancies, a study was performed that evaluated the experiences of women with the vaccine or influenza. A cross-sectional study was conducted through telephone interviews given to a total of 683 postpartum women in two health departments from the Valencia Community (Spain). This interview asked about their intention of becoming vaccinated in future pregnancies and whether they were favor or against vaccination. Most of them, 98.5% (n = 673 [95% CI 97.6-99.4]) (p less then 0.001) declared having received the systematic vaccines throughout their lives. The ones who were vaccinated against influenza, 91.9% (n = 387 [95% CI 89.2-94.6]) (p less then 0.001) manifested they would do so in future pregnancies. The probability of future non-vaccination was modeled, which was related to an unfavorable opinion towards vaccines (OR = 4.07 [95% CI 2.01-8.24]) (p less then 0.001), having suffered from influenza during pregnancy (OR = 3.84 [95% CI 1.41-10.42]) (p less then 0.05), and not having been vaccinated during previous pregnancies (OR = 38.47 [95% CI 23.58-62.76]) (p less then 0.001). Vaccination during pregnancy increases the intent of vaccination in the future.Analysis of sweat is of interest for a variety of diagnosis and monitoring applications in healthcare. In this work, detailed measurements of the dielectric properties of solutions representing the major components of sweat are presented. The measurements include aqueous solutions of sodium chloride (NaCl), potassium chloride (KCl), urea, and lactic acid, as well as their mixtures. Moreover, mixtures of NaCl, KCl, urea, and lactic acid, mimicking artificial sweat at different hydration states, are characterized, and the data are fitted to a Cole-Cole model. The complex dielectric permittivity for all prepared solutions and mixtures is studied in the range of 1-20 GHz, at temperature of 23 °C, with ionic concentrations in the range of 0.01-1.7 mol/L.The relationship between antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) and autoimmune haemolytic anaemia (AIHA) has never been systematically addressed. The aim of this study is to assess the link between aPL and AIHA in adult systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and antiphospholipid syndrome (APS). This study performed an EMBASE/PubMed search from inception to June 2019 and meta-analysis using Peto's odds ratios. The pooled prevalence (PP) of IgG/IgM anticardiolipin (aCL) and lupus anticoagulant (LA) was greater in AIHA +ve than AIHA -ve patients (34.7% vs. 27.6%, p = 0.03; 33.3% vs. 21.8%, p less then 0.0001; 20.9% vs. 8.3%, p = 0.01). The PP of AIHA was greater in (1) IgG and IgM aCL +ve than -ve patients (21.8% vs. 11.1%, p = 0.001 and 18.7% vs. 6.3%, p less then 0.0001), (2) in SLE related APS than in primary APS patients (22.8% vs. 3.9% p less then 0.0001), (3) in APS +ve than APS -ve SLE patients (23.2% vs. 8.4%, p = 0.01), and (4) in thrombotic APS than non-thrombotic APS/SLE patients (26.8% vs. 10%, p = 0.03). The PP of IgG/IgM aCL and LA was greater in DAT +ve than DAT -ve patients (42.4% vs. 12.8%, p less then 0.0001; 26.2% vs. 12.8%, p = 0.03 and 29.2% vs. 15.7%, p = 0.004 respectively). It was found that AIHA prevalence is maximal in SLE with aPL/APS, low-moderate in SLE without aPL and minimal in PAPS. Moreover, AIHA is rightly included among the classification criteria for SLE but not for APS/aPL. The significance of an isolated DAT positivity remains unclear in this setting.Single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT)/Bi2Te3 composite powders were fabricated via a one-step in situ reductive method, and their corresponding bulk composites were prepared by a cold-pressing combing pressureless sintering process or a hot-pressing process. The influences of the preparation methods on the thermoelectric properties of the SWCNT/Bi2Te3 bulk composites were investigated. All the bulk composites showed negative Seebeck coefficients, indicating n-type conduction. A maximum power factor of 891.6 μWm-1K-2 at 340 K was achieved for the SWCNT/Bi2Te3 bulk composites with 0.5 wt % SWCNTs prepared by a hot-pressing process, which was ~5 times higher than that of the bulk composites (167.7 μWm-1K-2 at 300 K) prepared by a cold-pressing combing pressureless sintering process, and ~23 times higher than that of the bulk composites (38.6 μWm-1K-2 at 300 K) prepared by a cold-pressing process, mainly due to the enhanced density of the hot-pressed bulk composites.Higher education institutions (HEIs) have been permeated by the technological advancement that the Industrial Revolution 4.0 brings with it, and forces institutions to deal with a digital transformation in all dimensions. Applying the approaches of digital transformation to the HEI domain is an emerging field that has aroused interest during the recent past, as they allow us to describe the complex relationships between actors in a technologically supported education domain. The objective of this paper is to summarize the distinctive characteristics of the digital transformation (DT) implementation process that have taken place in HEIs. The Kitchenham protocol was conducted by authors to answer the research questions and selection criteria to retrieve the eligible papers. Nineteen papers (1980-2019) were identified in the literature as relevant and consequently analyzed in detail. link2 The main findings show that it is indeed an emerging field, none of the found DT in HEI proposals have been developed in a holistic dimension. This situation calls for further research efforts on how HEIs can understand DT and face the current requirements that the fourth industrial revolution forced.Natural isolates of baculoviruses (as well as other dsDNA viruses) generally consist of homogenous or heterogenous populations of genotypes. The number and positions of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) from sequencing data are often used as suitable markers to study their genotypic composition. Identifying and assigning the specificities and frequencies of SNPs from high-throughput genome sequencing data can be very challenging, especially when comparing between several sequenced isolates or samples. In this study, the new tool "bacsnp", written in R programming langue, was developed as a downstream process, enabling the detection of SNP specificities across several virus isolates. The basis of this analysis is the use of a common, closely related reference to which the sequencing reads of an isolate are mapped. Thereby, the specificities of SNPs are linked and their frequencies can be used to analyze the genetic composition across the sequenced isolate. Here, the downstream process and analysis of detected SNP positions is demonstrated on the example of three baculovirus isolates showing the fast and reliable detection of a mixed sequenced sample. This study was designed to assess the variation of the air quality actually measured from the air pollution monitoring stations (AQMS) in three cities (Wuhan, Daegu, and Tokyo), in Asian countries experiencing the explosive outbreak of COVID-19, in a short period of time. In addition, we made a new attempt to calculate the reduced DosePM2.5 (μg) at the bronchiolar (Br.) and alveolar-interstitial (AI) regions of the 10-year-old children after the city lockdown/self-reflection of each city. A comparison of the average PM2.5 of a month before and after the lockdown (Wuhan) and self-reflection (Daegu and Tokyo) clearly shows that the PM2.5 concentration was decreased by 29.9, 20.9, and 3.6% in Wuhan, Daegu and Tokyo, respectively. Wuhan, Daegu and Tokyo also recorded 53.2, 19.0, and 10.4% falls of NO2 concentration, respectively. Wuhan, which had the largest decrease of PM2.5 concentration due to COVID-19, also marked the largest reduced DosePM2.5 10-year-old children (μg) (3660 μg at Br. and 6222 μg at AI), followed by Daegu (445 μg at Br. and 1,287 μg at AI), and Tokyo (18 μg at Br. link3 and 52 μg at AI), over two months after the city lockdown/self-reflection. Our results suggest that the city lockdown/self-reflection had the effect of lowering the concentration of PM2.5, resulting in an extension of the period it took to the acute allergic airway inflammation (AAI) for the 10-year-old children.
