Hungarian stew, or "gulyás" in Hungarian, go back to the 9th century when Hungarian guards, called "gulyás," prepared the dish in large cauldrons over open fires. Initially, it was actually a simple chicken soup, however with time, it evolved in to the strong, paprika-spiced goulash our experts know today.
