Objective. Vulvar lichen sclerosus (VLS) is a chronic inflammatory disorder, which affects women of all ages. With numerous controversies as regards to the nomenclature, diagnosis and its association with neoplastic conditions, we decided to conduct a scoping review on this subject. Data Source. A review protocol was developed, and the Knowledge Resource Services website was used to do a search of articles pertaining to VLS with keywords "Vulvar," "Vulval," "diagnosis," "lichen sclerosus et atrophicus," "kraurosis," "vulvar dystrophy," and "Lichen Sclerosus". Study Selection. The search was limited to published data from the last ten years, i.e., from July 2009 onwards and in the English language. A total of 338 articles pertaining to VLS were obtained. Older data were accessed if particular information was sought for. Results & Conclusion. The presentation is bimodal, i.e., one in prepubertal girls (average age 7.6 years) and the other in peri- and postmenopausal women (average age 52.6 years). However, many cases also present during reproductive years. Studies suggest a multifactorial origin as far as etiology is concerned, including a genetic, autoimmune, hormonal, and local infectious background. It affects the genital labial, perineal, and perianal areas and manifests as a patchy, thin, glistening, ivory-white area. Diagnosis is mainly based on clinical features. Biopsy is seldom required. It has been well established as a precursor lesion of dVIN and vulvar carcinoma. Different parameters were assessed from the patients' records initial blood parameters, blood parameters during initial chemotherapy, leukemia/therapy related complaints, duration of fever, microbiological findings (blood and urine), as well as patients' survival. Dental treatment need was defined as the presence of at least one carious tooth; periodontal treatment need was determined by the presence of probing depth ≥3.5 mm in at least two sextants. To reflect periodontal inflammation, the periodontal inflamed surface area (PISA) was applied. Thirty-nine patients were included. A dental treatment need of 75% and periodontal treatment need of 76% as well as an average PISA of 153.18 ± 158.09 were found. Only two associations were detected periodontal treatment need was associated with thrombocyte count after 7 days (p=0.03), and PISA was associated with erythrocyte count three days after induction of therapy (p=0.01). It can be concluded that remaining dental and periodontal treatment need as well as periodontal inflammation after dental clearance is not associated with the outcome of induction therapy in adult patients with acute leukemia. Methods This study is an evidence-based case report with literature search conducted on Clinical Key, Cochrane, Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, Taylor and Francis Online, ScienceDirect, and PubMed databases. Three relevant RCTs were extracted and assessed for validity, importance, and applicability. Results From 3 included trials, one of the studies opposed glutathione as a skin-whitening agent. However, the other two showed significant results only to some parts of the body or to certain age groups. As a skin-whitening agent, studies showed that glutathione yielded other cosmetic benefits as it may improve skin elasticity and reduce skin wrinkles. Furthermore, glutathione was well tolerated in oral preparations, but not in parenteral preparations. Conclusions Highest-evidence literatures showed that glutathione is not beneficial enough as a skin-whitening agent as it was only effective in some parts of the body and did not elicit long-lasting effects. However, its safety profiles in oral preparations were well tolerated. More researches regarding the time needed for skin color to return to its original state following drug withdrawal need to be conducted as it is yet to be discovered. Copyright © 2020 I. B. S. In the literature, there are only few objective studies evaluating changes in metabolism possibly influencing clinical outcomes. The main purpose of our study was the assessment of the effect of spa treatment on changes in concentration of TAS, CRP, and PRL in patients with osteoarthritis. Patients receiving spa treatment were enrolled. TAS, CRP, and PRL levels were obtained using standard tests before the beginning of treatment as well as on days 5 and 18. The study group consisted of n = 35 patients with peripheral joint and spinal osteoarthritis. The control group consisted of 15 people selected from the resort staff, who also suffered from osteoarthritis and had no contact with radon. An increase in TAS concentration was found in the study group following therapy while the control group was characterized by a significant decrease in TAS. On day 5, an increase in TAS concentration was found in both groups, however, with much worse result in the control group. No changes in CRP concentration were statistically significant. PRL concentration was proven to decrease in a statistically significant way after treatment in the study group. This trial is registered with NCT03274128. This study is aimed at studying if PPARG sensitizes hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (HSCC) in chemotherapeutic treatments and at dissecting possible mechanisms of observed effects. buy Ac-PHSCN-NH2 We integrated large-scale literature data and HSCC gene expression data to identify regulatory pathways that link PPARG and chemosensitivity in HSCC. Expression levels of molecules within the PPARG regulatory pathways were compared in 21 patients that underwent chemotherapy for primary HSCC, including 12 chemotherapy-sensitive patients (CSP) and 9 chemotherapy-nonsensitive patients (CNSP). In the CPS group, expression levels of PPARG were higher than that in the CNSP group (log-fold-change = 0.50). Structured text mining identified two chemosensitivity-related regulatory pathways driven by PPARG. In the CSP group, expression levels for 7 chemosensitivity-promoting genes were increased, while for 13 chemosensitivity suppressing the gene expression levels were decreased.
