Because the BS information is available, it is possible to calculate the optimum BS for offloading and there would be no handover. However, in the second one, called the BS-learning algorithm, the users only have user-side information. This means the users need to learn time and energy costs throughout the observation and select optimum BS based on it. In the results section, we compare our proposed algorithm with recently published literature. Additionally, to evaluate the performance it is compared with the optimum offline solution and two baseline scenarios. The simulation results indicate that the proposed methods outperform the overall system performance. The Internet of Things (IoT) technology has revolutionized the healthcare industry by enabling a new paradigm for healthcare delivery. This paradigm is known as the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT). IoMT devices are typically connected via a wide range of wireless communication technologies, such as Bluetooth, radio-frequency identification (RFID), ZigBee, Wi-Fi, and cellular networks. The ZigBee protocol is considered to be an ideal protocol for IoMT communication due to its low cost, low power usage, easy implementation, and appropriate level of security. However, maintaining ZigBee's high reliability is a major challenge due to multi-path fading and interference from coexisting wireless networks. This has increased the demand for more efficient channel coding schemes that can achieve a more reliable transmission of vital patient data for ZigBee-based IoMT communications. To meet this demand, a novel coding scheme called inter-multilevel super-orthogonal space-time coding (IM-SOSTC) can be implemented by combining the multilevel coding and set partitioning of super-orthogonal space-time block codes based on the coding gain distance (CGD) criterion. The proposed IM-SOSTC utilizes a technique that provides inter-level dependency between adjacent multilevel coded blocks to facilitate high spectral efficiency, which has been compromised previously by the high coding gain due to the multilevel outer code. In this paper, the performance of IM-SOSTC is compared to other related schemes via a computer simulation that utilizes the quasi-static Rayleigh fading channel. The simulation results show that IM-SOSTC outperforms other related coding schemes and is capable of providing the optimal trade-off between coding gain and spectral efficiency whilst guaranteeing full diversity and low complexity.Recent studies have approached the identification of foliar plant diseases using artificial intelligence, but in these works, classification is achieved using only one side of the leaf. Phytopathology specifies that there are diseases that show similar symptoms on the upper part of the leaf, but different ones on the lower side. An improvement in accuracy can be achieved if the symptoms of both sides of the leaf are considered when classifying plant diseases. In this context, it is necessary to establish whether the captured image represents the leaf on its upper or lower side. From the research conducted using botany books, we can conclude that a useful classification feature is color, because the sun-facing part is greener, while the opposite side is shaded. A second feature is the thickness of the primary and secondary veins. The veins of a leaf are more prominent on the lower side, compared to the upper side. A third feature corresponds to the concave shape of the leaf on its upper part and its convex shape on the lower part. In this study, we aim to achieve upper and lower leaf side classification using both deep learning methods and machine learning models.Stroke is a medical condition characterized by the rapid loss of focal brain function. Post-stroke patients attend rehabilitation training to prevent the degeneration of physical function and improve upper limb movements and functional status after stroke. Promising rehabilitation therapies include functional electrical stimulation (FES), exergaming, and virtual reality (VR). This work presents a biomechanical assessment of 13 post-stroke patients with hemiparesis before and after rehabilitation therapy for two months with these three methods. Epigenetics inhibitor Patients performed two tests (Maximum Forward Reach and Apley Scratching) where maximum angles, range of motion, angular velocities, and execution times were measured. A Wilcoxon test was performed (p = 0.05) to compare the variables before and after the therapy for paretic and non-paretic limbs. Significant differences were found in range of motion in flexion-extension, adduction-abduction, and internal-external rotation of the shoulder. Increases were found in flexion-extension, 17.98%, and internal-external rotation, 18.12%, after therapy in the Maximum Forward Reach Test. For shoulder adduction-abduction, the increase found was 20.23% in the Apley Scratching Test, supporting the benefits of rehabilitation therapy that combines FES, exergaming, and VR in the literature. We present a preliminary study of microwave head imaging using a three-dimensional (3-D) implementation of the distorted Born iterative method (DBIM). Our aim is to examine the benefits of using the more computationally intensive 3-D implementation in scenarios where limited prior information is available, or when the target occupies an area that is not covered by the imaging array's transverse planes. We show that, in some cases, the 3-D implementation outperforms its two-dimensional (2-D) counterpart despite the increased number of unknowns for the linear problem at each DBIM iteration. We also discuss how the 3-D algorithm can be implemented efficiently using graphic processing units (GPUs) and validate this implementation with experimental data from a simplified brain phantom. In this work, we have implemented a non-linear microwave imaging approach using DBIM with GPU-accelerated FDTD. Moreover, the paper offers a direct comparison of 2-D and 3-D microwave tomography implementations for head imaging and stroke detection in inhomogenous anatomically complex numerical head phantoms.Analysis of pollen material obtained from the Hirst-type apparatus, which is a tedious and labor-intensive process, is usually performed by hand under a microscope by specialists in palynology. This research evaluated the automatic analysis of pollen material performed based on digital microscopic photos. A deep neural network called YOLO was used to analyze microscopic images containing the reference grains of three taxa typical of Central and Eastern Europe. YOLO networks perform recognition and detection; hence, there is no need to segment the image before classification. The obtained results were compared to other deep learning object detection methods, i.e., Faster R-CNN and RetinaNet. YOLO outperformed the other methods, as it gave the mean average precision (mAP@.5.95) between 86.8% and 92.4% for the test sets included in the study. Among the difficulties related to the correct classification of the research material, the following should be noted significant similarities of the grains of the analyzed taxa, the possibility of their simultaneous occurrence in one image, and mutual overlapping of objects.Industry 4.0 is a new paradigm of digitalization and automation that demands high data rates and real-time ultra-reliable agile communication. Industrial communication at sub-6 GHz industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) bands has some serious impediments, such as interference, spectral congestion, and limited bandwidth. These limitations hinder the high throughput and reliability requirements of modern industrial applications and mission-critical scenarios. In this paper, we critically assess the potential of the 60 GHz millimeter-wave (mmWave) ISM band as an enabler for ultra-reliable low-latency communication (URLLC) in smart manufacturing, smart factories, and mission-critical operations in Industry 4.0 and beyond. A holistic overview of 60 GHz wireless standards and key performance indicators are discussed. Then the review of 60 GHz smart antenna systems facilitating agile communication for Industry 4.0 and beyond is presented. We envisage that the use of 60 GHz communication and smart antenna systems are crucial for modern industrial communication so that URLLC in Industry 4.0 and beyond could soar to its full potential.Knowing the number of pigs on a large-scale pig farm is an important issue for efficient farm management. However, counting the number of pigs accurately is difficult for humans because pigs do not obediently stop or slow down for counting. In this study, we propose a camera-based automatic method to count the number of pigs passing through a counting zone. That is, using a camera in a hallway, our deep-learning-based video object detection and tracking method analyzes video streams and counts the number of pigs passing through the counting zone. Furthermore, to execute the counting method in real time on a low-cost embedded board, we consider the tradeoff between accuracy and execution time, which has not yet been reported for pig counting. Our experimental results on an NVIDIA Jetson Nano embedded board show that this "light-weight" method is effective for counting the passing-through pigs, in terms of both accuracy (i.e., 99.44%) and execution time (i.e., real-time execution), even when some pigs pass through the counting zone back and forth. This work determines whether hyperspectral imaging is suitable for discriminating ore from waste at the point of excavation. A prototype scanning system was developed for this study. This system combined hyperspectral cameras and a three-dimensional LiDAR, mounted on a pan-tilt head, and a positioning system which determined the spatial location of the resultant hyperspectral data cube. This system was used to obtain scans both in the laboratory and at a gold mine in Western Australia. Samples from this mine site were assayed to determine their gold concentration and were scanned using the hyperspectral apparatus in the laboratory to create a library of labelled reference spectra. This library was used as (i) the reference set for spectral angle mapper classification and (ii) a training set for a convolutional neural network classifier. Both classification approaches were found to classify ore and waste on the scanned face with good accuracy when compared to the mine geological model. Greater resolution on the classification of ore grade quality was compromised by the quality and quantity of training data. The work provides evidence that an excavator-mounted hyperspectral system could be used to guide a human or autonomous excavator operator to selectively dig ore and minimise dilution.Exploring data connection information from vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications using advanced machine learning approaches, an intelligent transportation system (ITS) can provide better safety services to mitigate the risk of road accidents and improve traffic efficiency. In this work, we propose an end-edge-cloud architecture to deploy machine learning-driven approaches at network edges to predict vehicles' future trajectories, which is further utilized to provide an effective safety message dissemination scheme. With our approach, the traffic safety message will only be disseminated to relevant vehicles that are predicted to pass by accident areas, which can significantly reduce the network data transmission overhead and avoid unnecessary interference. Depending on the vehicle connectivity, our system adaptively chooses vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) or vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications to disseminate safety messages. We evaluate the system by using a real-world VANET mobility dataset, and experimental results show that our system outperforms other mechanisms without considering any predicted vehicle trajectory density information.
