Types of UPVC Door Handles

It's important to choose the correct replacement Upvc handle for your home if upvc handles need replacing. A locksmith can provide and install high-security uPVC door handles that come with additional security features.

The most important measurements are measurement A (known as PZ) and the length of the backplate (measurement F). Make sure to check these measurements to ensure that your new uPVC handle will fit.

Lever/Lever

A lever is a rod that pivots around an object. When you apply force to the end of the lever it will tend to rotate the fulcrum in the direction of the force applied. This motion increases the force and lets you lift or move objects that would otherwise require more force to lift.

The distance between the fulcrum of the lever and the point where you apply force determines the maximum amount of movement. This is known as the mechanical advantage. The greater the length of the lever, the larger the mechanical advantage. You can calculate mechanical advantage by dividing distance from the fulcrum point to the place where you are applying force by distance between the fulcrum point and end of lever.

Levers can produce different effects based on how the force is applied. A lever of class 2, for example is prone to turning in the opposite direction once the force applied to it. If you push on the door handle and force it to open, the forces will cause rotational effects similar to this.

However, levers don't create energy. They just multiply the force you apply by making a small amount effort across a large distance into a larger amount of force applied over a shorter distance. This is what allows you to do more work in a shorter period of time, and that is the reason why levers are frequently used for lifting heavy objects or moving large amounts of cargo. This is also the reason behind the levers that are found in many everyday tools like crowbars and fishing rods, hammer claws and even your legs when you sit on the hand brake of your vehicle.

Lever/Pad

Lever pad handles, also referred to as upvc door handles, feature levers on both sides to operate the multipoint locks. Lever pad handles are available in various finishes and variations and can be installed on a wide range of materials that include UPVC doors, Aluminium doors & Timber Doors. They are sold in pairs for both the outside and the interior doors with screws and spindles included. They are available in hand and unhandled versions to suit different users.

These are often used for new constructions and can be used to replace the existing doors made of upvc. The levers are lifted to open all multipoint locks and the key is turned to lock or close the door. They offer some extra security when compared to lever handles for doors as the locking operation is only accessible from the inside with a key unless the door is locked.

They're not as secure as a cylinder bolt however they are an affordable alternative for a home with more security. The only drawback is that they do not offer the same level of protection as a cylinder bolt, and consequently don't block access to outside in the event that the door has been left open.

The majority of lever pad door handles made of upvc that we stock are made by the top manufacturers in the industry and are made from high quality components. In general, they come with a manufacturer's warranty.

Typically, they will be designed to work with a 92mm lock or the replacement version called a Paddock lock. They will have a 92mm cylinder centre on the inside and 62mm on the outside and be fitted with 2 spindle followers. Some are supplied inserted in the back plate whilst others are removable to enable different fixing centres.

Lever/Snib

Lever latches are by far the most simple type of door handles. The lever is pulled down to activate a simple latch inside the door that can be locked using keys. Certain lever privacy handles work in the same way however, with the addition of a lock snib (like knobs for doors).

A snib-button can be very beneficial, especially in homes where it's essential to ensure privacy or security. If your spouse is expected to arrive at home late from work, you can apply the snib to ensure they can't get in until they're ready to move in. This type of handle can also be put in on doors inside, such as those in bedrooms, where you wish to restrict access from outside.

Snib buttons may cause problems in some cases, especially when you have locks that are old and warped doors. If the snib button was accidentally pressed or by someone who is not familiar with it, the door may slam and lock you out. It is possible to gain entry by knocking on the door frame or the letterbox. But this isn't a good idea.

If your uPVC door has a snib button, we recommend replacing the handle with a modern E-LOK 7-Series smart lock. These can be retrofitted over double turn pull handle kits and come with cover plates to hide existing holes, for a seamless install. The E-LOK application is able to unlock doors with RFID cards or mechanical key. Passcodes are also offered to ensure security and convenience. The system is tested to 200 000 cycles to ensure long-term durability. The handles are made of solid metal and are in compliance with BS EN 1670 Grade 5 for resistance to corrosion.

This is accomplished through the 'pad'-shaped external handle that locks in the gap between the handles and lock case to stop the latch from being removed or the door being opened.

This handle is designed to work with uPVC multipoint locks that employ a split spindle mechanism.
