This study examined the relationship between reactions of the bereaved to conditions of the pandemic and severity of their grief and levels of impairment. A total of 831 American adults who lost a loved one to COVID-19 responded to validated measures of dysfunctional grief and functional impairment, as well as items assessing unique complications associated with the pandemic (e.g. resentment toward doctors, social isolation). In combination, circumstantial risk factors accounted for 59% of the variance in social impairment and fully 71% of the variance in pandemic grief, leading to the development of an inventory of Pandemic Grief Risk Factors (PGRF), which displayed a unified factor structure, high reliability and strong convergent validity. Implications for psychological screening and intervention for those bereaved by COVID-19 are briefly noted. Background The school entry vaccination record check strategy (SECS) is an appropriate opportunity to recommend vaccines for students to improve vaccination coverage (VC). However, it is only utilized for providing necessary catch-up vaccination for students who are missing the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) vaccines in China. We aimed to address that gap and quantify the relationship between the SECS policy and the increase of coverage in varicella vaccine (VarV).Methods We employed a pretest and posttest quasi-experimental design to examine the effect of the upgraded SECS policy on the change of VarV coverage in newly enrolled students in Lu'an, 2019-2020.Results Eight hundred participants were randomly divided into the control group (C group, 31.8%), the telephone-based intervention group (T group, 31.2%), and the written notification intervention group (W group, 37.0%). Totally, 84 students received VarV during the study period, with a VC of 10.5%. The possibility of vaccination in the T group (RR = 4.9, 95% CI2.2-10.9) and W group (RR = 5.2, 95% CI2.4-11.5) was significantly higher than that in the C group (p less then .001).Conclusions Our study demonstrates that the upgraded SECS produce a positive effect on improving the VC of VarV. This nudge strategy may decrease varicella outbreaks in schools in China, especially in provinces where VarV is not introduced into EPI.Tetracycline (TC) is widely detected in the environment because of its abuse and persistence. There is an urgent need to efficiently treat TC due to its potential threat to the ecosystem and human health. In this study, microscale Fe/Cu bimetallic particles' (mFe/Cu) catalysis enhanced by H2O2 was proposed to remove TC in an aqueous solution. Based on the pre-experiment, the effect of theoretical Cu mass loading (TMLCu) and some key operating parameters on the TC removal efficiency were investigated thoroughly. The degradation rates of TC by mFe/Cu with different TMLCu followed the pseudo-first-order kinetics model, and the optimal TMLCu (0.34 g Cu/g Fe) was obtained. The optimal operating parameters of mFe/Cu dosage, concentration of H2O2, initial concentration of TC, stirring speed and operating temperature were 5 g/L, 50 mM, 50 ppm, 400 r/min, and 55°C, respectively. Compared with the control system, the system of mFe/Cu catalysis enhanced by H2O2 (mFe/Cu-H2O2) presented excellent performance due to its synergistic effect. Also, the fresh and reacted mFe/Cu was characterized by scanning electron microscope, which showed the surface of mFe/Cu was rougher after reaction, indicating mFe/Cu participated in the degradation reaction. Besides, with the presence of inorganic anions, the degradation of TC in mFe/Cu-H2O2 system did not change much. And mFe/Cu presented good stability and recyclability after 10 repeated tests. Therefore, mFe/Cu-H2O2 system had a great potential for cost-effective removal of antibiotics in wastewater. In most countries worldwide, pneumococcal conjugate vaccines have been included in the infant immunization program, resulting in a significant reduction in the burden of pneumococcal disease in children and adults. Shifting serotype distribution due to the indirect effect of infant vaccination with the 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) may continue to increase the gap between 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPSV23) and PCV13 serotype coverage for older adults in the coming years. This clinical study (V110-029; NCT02225587) evaluated the safety and immunogenicity of sequential administration of PCV13 followed approximately 8 weeks later, or approximately 26 weeks later, by PPSV23 in healthy adults ≥50 years of age. Both dosing intervals were generally well tolerated as measured by the nature, frequency, and intensity of reported adverse events (AEs) in both vaccination groups. Serotype-specific opsonophagocytic activity (OPA) geometric mean titers (GMTs) measured 30 days following receipt of PPSV23 in either group and at Week 30 were generally comparable between the 2 groups for 6 serotypes unique to PPSV23 and 12 serotypes shared between PCV13 and PPSV23, regardless of the interval between receipt of PCV13 and PPSV23. In addition, administration of PPSV23 given either 8 weeks or 26 weeks following PCV13 did not negatively impact immune responses induced by PCV13. Furthermore, administration of PPSV23 given either 8 weeks or 26 weeks after PCV13 elicited serotype-specific OPA GMTs to serotypes unique to PPSV23, which could provide earlier protection against pneumococcal disease caused by these serotypes in comparison with the current Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommended interval of at least 12 months.Several lineages of SARS-CoV-2 are currently circulating worldwide. During SARS-CoV-2 diagnostic activities performed in Abruzzo region (central Italy) several strains belonging to the B.1.177.75 lineage tested negative for the N gene but positive for the ORF1ab and S genes (+/+/- pattern) by the TaqPath COVID-19 CE-IVD RT-PCR Kit manufactured by Thermofisher. By sequencing, a unique mutation, synonymous 28948C > T, was found in the N-negative B.1.177.75 strains. Although we do not have any knowledge upon the nucleotide sequences of the primers and probe adopted by this kit, it is likely that N gene dropout only occurs when 28948C > T is coupled with 28932C > T, this latter present, in turn, in all B.1.177.75 sequences available on public databases. Furthermore, epidemiological analysis was also performed. The majority of the N-negative B.1.177.75 cases belonged to two clusters apparently unrelated to each other and both clusters involved young people. However, the phylogeny for sequences containing the +/+/- pattern strongly supports a genetic connection and one common source for both clusters. Though, genetic comparison suggests a connection rather than indicating the independent emergence of the same mutation in two apparently unrelated clusters. This study highlights once more the importance of sharing genomic data to link apparently unrelated epidemiological clusters and to, remarkably, update molecular tests. This article analyses group processes in adolescence through therapeutic group interventions. The authors propose to analyse the group aspect, cross-identifications and projective identifications of the adolescent subjectivation process. In which ways does the adolescent subjectivation process need to go through a process of intersubjectivation? This involves a consideration of observable intersubjectivity in a therapeutic group with troubled adolescents. After redefining the notion of subjectivation process and its various manifestations in adolescent psychopathology, the authors further analyse the complex implications of this notion, from the point of view of object cathexes and of links to others. The task is to establish a metapsychology of links to introduce therapeutic psychoanalytic groups into psychic dynamics in particular, the authors discuss the methodology of theatre-mediated therapeutic psychoanalytic groups, from which the clinical vignette discussed is taken. A case study of a group of adolescents discovers the haphazardness of the link to the other, as a cornerstone towards reinitializing the process of subjectivation that has been hindered in members of the group, and as a way of resuming self-reflectiveness and the reimagining of the self. The aim of the study was to examine the role of the obsession with COVID-19 thoughts and coronaphobia in the relationship of death anxiety with burnout among staff working at infectious diseases hospitals in the front-line of the fight against COVID-19. A cross-sectional online survey (N = 110) was conducted during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Results showed that obsession with COVID-19 and coronaphobia mediated the relationship of death anxiety with burnout. Most of the participants reported higher levels of death anxiety compared with the general population and nurses reported higher levels of death anxiety than physicians.Obsolete organochlorine pesticides (OSPs) are currently prohibited as persistent organic pollutants that contaminate the environment. selleckchem If undisposed, they continue to pollute soil and water, to accumulate in the food chain and to harm plants, animals and the human body. The aim of the study was to assess water and soil pollution around the storehouses of undisposed, banned OSPs and their possible genotoxic effect. The storehouses in four villages near Almaty, Kazakhstan were investigated. Chemical analysis confirmed contamination of water and soil around storehouses with OSPs. The genotoxic effect of water and soil samples was evaluated using model objects S.typhymurium, D.melanogaster, sheep lymphocytes cultures and human lymphocytes cultures. It was found that water and soil samples caused mutagenic effect in all model systems. They increased the frequency of revertants in Salmonella, the frequency of lethal mutations in Drosophila chromosomes, and the frequency of chromosome aberrations in cultures of human and sheep lymphocytes. Although a genotoxic effect was demonstrated for each of these models, various models showed different sensitivity to the effects of pesticides and they varied degree of response. The association between the total content of OCPs in soil and the level of mutations for different model systems was discovered.

Nowadays, websites, online journals, and social media give access to an extraordinary amount of medical information. Misleading news are often disseminated generating false expectations, exaggerated anxiety, and confusion; in oncology setting, disinformation is perhaps more deleterious than in other fields, with a considerable impact on single patients as well as on families and, more in general, on Public Health. We aimed to promote a better interaction between the health care and the world of communication.

A regional technical table was established with the aim of drafting a shared document through the consensus conference method in the RAND/University of California Los Angeles variant, identifying strategies to overcome barriers between communication and health care as well as to propose common criteria for an effective dissemination of medical information.

Sixteen articles met the inclusion criteria, from which 72 recommendations were drawn to the communication and health field (40 related to specific issues and 32 transversal to all the specific topics).
