The inclusion of indirect spillover costs and benefits that occur in non-healthcare sectors of society is necessary to make optimal societal decisions when assessing the cost effectiveness of healthcare interventions. Education costs and benefits are relevant in the disease area of mental and behavioral disorders, but their inclusion in economic evaluations is largely neglected due to lack of methodological knowledge.
This study aims to explore, using a scoping review, the identification, measurement, and valuation methods used to assess the impact of mental and behavioural disorders on education costs and benefits.
A scoping review was conducted to identify articles that were set in the education sector and assessed education costs and benefits. An adapted 5-step approach was used (i) initating a scoping review; (ii) identifying component studies; (iii) data extraction; (iv) reporting results; (v) discussion and interpretation of findings. Results were summarized in a narrative synthesis per identificaons.
By exploring a new area of research from a sector-specific perspective, the current study adds to the existing intersectoral cost and benefit literature base. Future research should focus on standardizing costing methods in pharmacoeconomic guidelines and assessing the relative importance of individual education costs and benefits in economic evaluations for specific interventions and diseases.

Most of these treatments have proven efficacy in relapsing and progressive forms of MS and neuromyelitis optica spectrum disease (NMOSD) or are in advanced stages of clinical development. Currently, ocrelizumab and inebilizumab are licensed for treatment of MS and NMOSD, respectively. This part of the review focuses on monoclonal antibody B cell-depleting strategies in NMOSD and the emerging related myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) immunoglobulin G-associated disease (MOGAD). Case series and phase 2/3 studies in these inflammatory disorders are assessed. The safety profile of long-term B-cell depletion in MS, NMOSD, and MOGAD will be highlighted. Finally implications of the current coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic on the management of patients with these disorders and the use of B cell-depleting agents will be discussed.
Diabetic retinopathy can cause blindness even in the absence of symptoms. Although routine eye screening remains the mainstay of diabetic retinopathy treatment and it can prevent 95% of blindness, this screening is not available in many low- and middle-income countries even though these countries contribute to 75% of the global diabetic retinopathy burden.
The aim of this study was to assess the diagnostic accuracy of diabetic retinopathy screening done by non-ophthalmologists using 2 different digital fundus cameras and to assess the risk factors for the occurrence of diabetic retinopathy.
This validation study was conducted in 6 peripheral health facilities in Bangladesh from July 2017 to June 2018. A double-blinded diagnostic approach was used to test the accuracy of the diabetic retinopathy screening done by non-ophthalmologists against the gold standard diagnosis by ophthalmology-trained eye consultants. Retinal images were taken by using either a desk-based camera or a hand-held camera following pgraphy is an effective screening tool with acceptable diagnostic accuracy. Our findings suggest that diabetic retinopathy screening can be accurately performed by health care personnel other than eye consultants. People with more than 5 years of diabetes should receive priority in any community-level retinopathy screening program. In a country like Bangladesh where no diabetic retinopathy screening services exist, the use of hand-held cameras can be considered as a cost-effective option for potential system-wide implementation.

The aim of this study was to compare the mental health of medical professionals with nonmedical professionals in different European countries during the COVID-19 pandemic. We hypothesized that medical professionals, particularly those exposed to COVID-19 at work, would have higher levels of depression, anxiety, and stress. We also aimed to determine their main stressors and most frequently used coping strategies during the crisis.

Households were randomly sampled in 2018, 2019, and 2020; 11,653 mothers were administered the US Department of Agriculture 6-item Food Security Survey Module. Post-COVID-19 (April 27 to July 21, 2020, a period when stay-at-home restrictions were eased in the state), 14.0% of mothers reported VLFS versus 19.3% pre-COVID-19 (November 21, 2019, to March 14, 2020) (P = .003), 22.2% in 2019 (P less then .001), and 19.0% in 2018 (P = .004). Existing systems to quickly obtain food assistance benefits in California and new federal benefits available in response to COVID-19 may have reduced VLFS.
