Phacoemulsification is the accepted first-line treatment for cataracts. This study aims to explore the changes in visual function and quality of life in patients with senile cataracts following phacoemulsification, and its risk factors.

The clinical data of 104 patients (202 eyes in total) with senile cataract who underwent phacoemulsification in our hospital from August 2017 to August 2019 were retrospectively analyzed, and finally 102 cases (198 eyes) were enrolled according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. These eyes were divided into the low vision group (n=75) and non-low vision group (n=123) The changes in pre- and post-operative visual function and quality of life of patients were compared. check details Logistic regression was used to analyze the risk factors of visual function of patients with senile cataract after phacoemulsification. The correlation between visual function and quality of life was examined.

The postoperative subjective vision, peripheral visual field, visual adaptation, and stereo vphacoemulsification time are independent risk factors that affect the visual function of patients with senile cataract after phacoemulsification. For patients with the aforementioned high-risk factors, enhanced clinical intervention and evaluation is required to reduce the risk of poor postoperative vision.

Phacoemulsification can improve the short-term visual function of patients with senile cataract and improve their quality of life. Advanced age, preoperative corrected visual acuity ( less then 0.1), a history of glaucoma, postoperative corneal edema, fundus lesions, and a longer phacoemulsification time are independent risk factors that affect the visual function of patients with senile cataract after phacoemulsification. For patients with the aforementioned high-risk factors, enhanced clinical intervention and evaluation is required to reduce the risk of poor postoperative vision.

Core needle biopsy (CNB) plays an important role in the preoperative axillary lymph node (ALN) assessment in breast cancer (BC) patients with the development of treatment, but little is known about the axillary lymph flow after CNB of ALNs. This study aimed to investigate the changes of lymphatic flow after CNB of sentinel lymph node (SLN) in a rabbit model.

The axillary SLN was biopsied in a rabbit model, and the changes of sentinel lymph flow were observed by methylthioninium chloride imaging at 1 and 12 days after the biopsy. Furthermore, the afferent lymphatic vessel was ligated and imaged once every 3 days to assess the changes of lymphatic flow.

The SLN biopsied was characterized by disorganized medullary sinus containing erythrocytes, whereas clean medullary sinus containing a normal population of circulating lymphoid cells was observed in the contralateral normal SLN. At 1 day after biopsy, the sentinel lymphatic drainage was blocked. At 12 days after biopsy, the sentinel lymphatic flow was reconstructed or repaired. Ligation of afferent lymphatic vessel further confirmed the reconstruction of lymphatic flow.

The sentinel lymphatic flow changes after CNB in a rabbit model, but it can be reconstructed or repaired.

Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is a persistent chronic excessive anxiety that is hard to control. Our previous study indicated that self-designed Ningxin Anshen Formula (NXAS) was effective to treat mild to moderate GAD patients. This study is a randomized controlled clinical trial and aimed to investigate the imapct of self-designed NXAS on the resting-state functional connectivity (rsFC) in patients with mild to moderate GAD and explore the potential mechanisms.

A total of 61 patients diagnosed with mild to moderate GAD were recruited and divided into two groups randomly NXAS group (n=31) and placebo group (n=30). Before and after treatment, the rsFC was examined by resting-state functional MRI (rs-fMRI), the anxiety was assessed with HAMA, and the independent component analysis (ICA) was used to analyze the resting-state functional connectivity (rsFC). The correlation between HAMA score and abnormal rsFC was further evaluated.

The default mode network (DMN) showed evident rsFC interaction in the PCUN in both groups before and after therapy. The salience network (SN) showed obvious rsFC interaction in the bilateral gyrus frontalis inferiors and bilateral gyri temporalis superiors before and after therapy. In the NXAS group, the rsFC interction reduced significantly in the left gyrus frontalis inferior, but remained unchanged in the right gyrus frontalis inferior and bilateral gyri temporalis superiors after therapy. In the control group, the rsFC interaction increased dramatically after treatment. In addition, the abnormal rsFC had no relationship with HAMA score.

The self-designed NXAS can increase the rsFC in the PUCN on DMN and reduce rsFC in the orbIFG.L on SN to exert anti-anxiety effect.

Postoperative paralytic ileus is not a rare complication after lumbar spinal surgery especially in elderly patients. Chewing is a kind of sham feeding that has been reported to stimulate bowel motility, but so far there was no study showed these positive results may or may not be extrapolated to the spinal surgery population. We sought to determine whether chewing gum facilitates bowel function recovery in elderly patients undergoing lumbar spine surgery.

Sixty consecutive elderly patients (over 60 years old) with lumbar degenerative diseases undergoing posterior lumbar fusion surgery between September 2017 and April 2019 were respectively included and divided into two groups. The chewing gum group (30 patients) started chewing gum after they were awakened from anesthesia until the first defecation occurred, while the control group (30 patients) chewed nothing. The time to first flatus, first bowel sounds heard and first defecation, the length of hospital stay and postoperative complications were all recorded and analyzed.
