A cytokine array revealed the presence of several cytokines in GC-EC that negatively regulate immune cytolytic activity and could be potential candidates for immune-suppressive effects. BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES The complement system plays an important role in the development of acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Complement C1q is an important initial component of the classical complement pathway and closely related to many chronic inflammatory diseases, including atherosclerosis (AS). We aimed to determine whether there was association between serum complement C1q and the severity of coronary stenosis. SUBJECTS AND METHODS 320 patients who underwent coronary arteriography (CAG) were stratified into non-ACS group (control group, n = 74), unstable angina group (UA group, n = 197) and acute myocardial infarction group (AMI group, n = 49) according to the severity of coronary stenosis and clinical manifestations. The severity of coronary stenosis was represented in Gensini score, and serum complement C1q level was compared using immunity transmission turbidity among three groups. RESULTS The level of complement C1q in AMI group was lower significantly than control group and UA group (P less then showed lower level. This finding suggests further decrease of complement C1q level in ACS patients may be a contributory factor to instability or rupture of atherosclerotic plaques. Combined with other clinical indicators, it can be helpful to predict the risk and severity of coronary stenosis. OBJECTIVE To compare the surgical outcomes between Reduced-Port Robotic Surgery (RPRS) using the Octo-Port system and conventional 2 port laparoscopy for myomectomy. STUDY DESIGN This is a prospective, non-randomized study, which compared and analyzed data from 41 patients who underwent RPRS myomectomy and 22 patients who underwent conventional 2 port laparoscopic myomectomy from April 2016 through July 2019. We compared the myoma enucleation time, suture time, myoma type, and the location of the largest myoma between the two groups. RESULTS The patients were not different between the two groups. The myoma enucleation time (26.7 ± 20.9 vs. 22.0 ± 13.7, p = 0.380), hemoglobin drop (2.38 ± 0.9 vs 2.1 ± 0.8, p = 0.280), weight of the myomas (205.3 ± 161.5 vs. 163.4 ± 89.1, p = 0.261), and estimated blood loss (181.1 ± 163.4 vs. 187.3 ± 77.5, p = 0.840) were not significantly different between the two groups. Notably, only the suture time (15.5 (10-21.5) vs. 20 (18-27), p = 0.005) was lesser in women who underwent RPRS myomectomy than in those who underwent conventional 2 port myomectomy. CONCLUSION Our data suggest that RPRS myomectomy is comparable to conventional 2 port laparoscopic myomectomy in terms of safety and feasibility and may be more advantageous for suturing after myoma enucleation. BACKGROUND Touch screen devices are now ubiquitous, and their usage by young children is increasing. However, the effects of these devices on young children are still unknown. Therefore, this study aimed to address the associations of touch screen device exposure with symptomatic emotional and behavioral problems and language development in children between the ages of 18 and 36 months. METHOD A total of 161 primary caregivers of children between the ages of 18 and 36 months were recruited from the pediatric ward and outpatient clinic at a medical center in southern Taiwan. All caregivers were asked to fill out the Child Behavior Checklist for Ages 1½-5 (CBCL 1½-5) and a questionnaire on basic personal information and touch screen device usage, and they were also interviewed with the Communication and Language Screening Test for Birth to Three Chinese-Speaking Infant-Toddlers (CLST). Independent t-test and one-way ANOVA were used to examine the differences among the categories in the demographic variables andot noted on language development (β = -.136, p  less then  .100, 95 % CI -2.595-.147). CONCLUSION Young children who spent more time on touch screen devices were more likely to have emotional problems, anxious/depressive symptoms, somatic complaints, social withdrawal symptoms, attention problems, and aggressive behaviors, but not language delay. This paper assesses the initial psychometric properties of the Denver Developmental Screening Test (Denver II), a widely used child development measure in its first population-level administration in Brazil. The Portuguese version was administered to 2755 children under three years of age who were eligible for a home visiting program in Fortaleza, Northeast Brazil. We examine the measure's internal consistency and verify construct validity by testing the dimensionality through confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and estimating associations with household socioeconomic variables (e.g., poverty, maternal education, stunting, and parenting practices). The test was found to be psychometrically robust and culturally relevant. Although we found a good fit with the structure proposed by the instrument's author, a structure of two latent variables (motor and cognitive) provided a better fit. read more This validity exercise provides useful information for policymakers and researchers interested in using this instrument in the Brazilian context or a similar one in the region. Sediment heavy metal pollution in the Dianchi Lake has been a long-term environmental problem of concern. This study investigated the lake sediment heavy metal contamination level, mobility, commercial fish metal accumulation and its impact on human health. The results show high As, Hg and Cd concentration in the sediment, while Pb and Cr contamination are insignificant. Sediment sequential extraction analysis shows that Hg in sediment has the highest portion of mobile fraction, followed by As, while the portion of mobile fractions of Cd, Pb and Cr in sediment is very low. The high concentrations of Hg and As in surface water and porewater were consistent with the chemical fraction composition of the two elements in sediment. Three major commercial fish species, Culterichthys erythropterus, Carassius auratus and Hypophthalmichthys molitrix, were collected for analysis of metal concentrations in their muscles. Among the same size of fish, C. auratus has the highest As concentration due to its bottom habitat and omnivorous feeding habits.
