Highlighting FCD brain somatic gain-of-function variants in mammalian target of Rapamycin are a leading pathway to better classify FCD. An integrated genotype-phenotype analysis enables to classify the broad spectrum of low-grade and epilepsy-associated brain tumors. Further DNA-methylation-based disease classification will increase the mechanistic understanding and diagnostic precision of difficult to classify pathologies in the future.

According to the World Health Organization, occupational injuries are significant health issues globally that affect social lives and economic status. This study aimed to assess the situation of occupational injuries in the Kerman province.

In this cross-sectional study, all occupational injuries registered in the Department of Cooperatives Labor and Social Welfare of Kerman Province were investigated during 2012-2016. Data were retrieved from an institutional database, including the official institutional software reports of Cooperatives Labor and Social Welfare occupational inspectors. The study used ArcGIS 10.3 software to prepare the geographical distribution of the cumulative incidence of occupational injuries on the map for each city. Data were analyzed using SPSS software.

A total of 2228 subjects with a mean age of 34 years and a mean work experience of 4.5years were injured during 5 years. 73.2% of them were married. 96.4% of them were Iranian, and 61.3% had insurance. The most number of injuri considering safety in occupational environments to prevent occupational injuries should be a priority in planning.

To manage life-threatening conditions and reduce morbidity and mortality, pre-hospital's on-scene decision making is an influential factor. Since pre-hospital's decision making is a challenging process, it is necessary to be identified this process. This study was conducted to explore the model of Iranian emergency medical technicians' decision making in emergency situations.

This study was applied through grounded theory method using direct field observations and semi-structured interviews. Purposeful sampling with 26 participants including 17 emergency medical technicians including dispatchers, physicians of medical directions, managers and 1 representative for court affairs was performed. Interviews were lasted from October 2018 to July 2019. Corbin and Strauss approach, 2015 (open, axial and selective coding) were used to analyze data.

A paradigm model was developed to explain the relationships among the main categories. Decision making in the context of fear and concern was emerged as the core catency Medical technicians' decision making in the context of fear and concern, as the core concept of this model, lead to decrease in quality of the pre-hospital services, stakeholders' dissatisfaction, hospital emergency units' overload, decrease in reputation of the Emergency Medical Technicians, threat to patient clinical outcome and patient safety. To prevent of these negative consequences, facilitation of the Emergency Medical Technicians' on-scene decision making is recommended.

The counterfactual definition of confounding is often explained in the context of exchangeability between the exposed and unexposed groups. One recent approach is to examine whether the measures of association (e.g., associational risk difference) are exchangeable when exposure status is flipped in the population of interest. We discuss the meaning and utility of this approach, showing their relationships with the concept of confounding in the counterfactual framework.

Three hypothetical cohort studies are used, in which the target population is the total population. After providing an overview of the notions of confounding in distribution and in measure, we discuss the approach from the perspective of exchangeability of measures of association (e.g., factual associational risk difference vs. counterfactual associational risk difference).

In general, if the measures of association are non-exchangeable when exposure status is flipped, confounding in distribution is always present, although confounding in measure may or may not be present. Even if the measures of association are exchangeable when exposure status is flipped, there could be confounding both in distribution and in measure. When we use risk difference or risk ratio as a measure of interest and the exposure prevalence in the population is 0.5, testing the exchangeability of measures of association is equivalent to testing the absence of confounding in the corresponding measures.

The approach based on exchangeability of measures of association essentially does not provide a definition of confounding in the counterfactual framework. Subtly differing notions of confounding should be distinguished carefully.

Gram staining was performed using unconcentrated and concentrated milk cells. Using this method, we found that the background of microscopic image of unconcentrated milk cells was complex and bacteria were difficult to detect. In contrast, the background of the smears in the concentrated milk cells was translucent, and bacterial and somatic cells were clearly visible. The sensitivity and specificity of the Gram staining of concentrated milk cells were 84.4% and 86.0% and 50.0% and 94.5% for the detection of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, respectively. The presented method provides a simple and inexpensive means of determining mastitis-causing pathogens. The insufficient activity of insulin and the hyperactivity of glucagon are responsible for glucose intolerance in patients with type 2 diabetes. Whereas sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors improve blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes, their effects on the secretion profiles of glucagon and incretins remain unclear. Therefore, to investigate the effects of the SGLT2 inhibitor luseogliflozin on metabolic and endocrine profiles, 19 outpatients with type 2 diabetes were administered luseogliflozin for 12 weeks. It is of note that all subjects were treated only with diet and exercise therapy, and we were able to investigate the effects of luseogliflozin separately from the effects of other antidiabetic agents. Body weight, body fat mass, fat-free mass, and muscle mass were significantly reduced after 12 weeks of luseogliflozin administration. Glycosylated hemoglobin significantly decreased from the baseline of 8.2% ± 0.8% to 7.3% ± 0.7% (p less then 0.0001). The meal tolerance test demonstrated that luseogliflozin significantly recovered glucose tolerance, accompanied by improved insulin resistance and β-cell function, whereas glucagon secretion was unaffected. Furthermore, GLP-1 secretion was significantly increased after luseogliflozin administration. Thus, luseogliflozin improved metabolic and endocrine profiles accompanied by increased GLP-1 secretion in type 2 diabetic patients without any antidiabetic medication, but did not affect glucagon secretion. In the Japanese macaque, semen has been collected by electro-ejaculation (EE), using the higher voltage stimuli compared to other species including genus Macaca. Semen coagulates immediately after ejaculation, which makes difficult to produce high-quality semen for artificial insemination. Recently, semen collection using urethral catheterization (UC) has been reported in carnivore and this technique may allow semen collection without coagulation in a less invasive manner. Further, the temporal preservation temperature and cooling rate of semen during cryopreservation affect post thawing sperm quality. In this study, to improve semen quality and quantity, as well as the animal welfare, semen collection was performed by EE with high (5-15 V) or low (3-6 V) voltage, UC and a combination of the two (EE-UC). It has been suggested that a high voltage is necessary for semen collection, but 10 V stimulation was effective enough and 15 V is for additional sperm collection. Also, liquid semen was collected by EE-UC and this could increase the total number of sperm. Further, to improve the post thawing sperm motility, semen was kept at four temperatures (4, 15, 25 and 37°C) for 60 min, and processed with two cooling procedures (slow cooling before second dilution and fast cooling after second dilution). Holding semen at 25°C and fast cooling after the second dilution maintained progressive motile sperm rate. The present results will contribute to the improvement of semen collection and animal welfare of Japanese macaques. This prospective clinical trial evaluated the effects of epidural anesthesia (EA) placed at the lumbosacral compared to the L5-L6 junction in dogs undergoing hindlimb orthopedic surgery. In all, 98 dogs were randomly assigned to receive injection at either L7-S1 (LS group) or L5-L6 (LL group) at the same local anesthetic regimen (1 mg/kg bupivacaine 0.5% and 0.1 mg/kg morphine 1%). Fentanyl (1 µg/kg) was the intraoperative rescue analgesia (iRA) administered if mean arterial pressure increased by 30% above pre-stimulation value. Procedural failure, iRA, hypotension, motor block resolution, and postoperative side effects were recorded. There were 7/47 (15%) epidural procedural failures in the LS group and 8/51 (16%) (P=1.00) in the LL group; iRA was administered in 21/40 (52%) LS group dogs and in 13/43 (30%) LL group dogs, respectively (P=0.047). The incidence of hypotension was 10/40 (25%) and 16/43 (37%) in the LS group and the LL group, respectively (P=0.25). Proprioceptive residual deficit at 8 hr after EA was recorded in 3/26 (12%) in group LS dogs and in 13/26 (50%) group LL dogs, respectively (P=0.01). The proprioceptive residual deficit at 24 hr in one dog (LL group) resolved within 36 hr. No episodes of postoperative urinary retention, pruritus or neurological damage were recorded. The L5-L6 EA decreased significantly iRA but delays the proprioceptive recovery time. Further studies are needed to determine whether a lower bupivacaine dose reduces the duration of the residual block retaining the same incidence of iRA.Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) showed limited treatment outcome and poor prognosis. This study aimed to screen potential biomarkers and drugs in ESCC. Firstly, GSE26886, GSE111044 and GSE77861 were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. JAK Inhibitor I JAK inhibitor Next, the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between cancer and noncancerous tissues were analyzed by the GEO2R. The Gene Ontology (GO) annotation, the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway annotation, the protein-protein interaction (PPI) analysis and hub genes screened were conducted by some bioinformatic methods, respectively. Lastly, the hub genes and potential drugs were verified by the GEPIA2 and the QuartataWeb database. The results showed that 13 up-regulated genes and 81 down-regulated genes were identified. In GO terms, DEGs were mainly associated with cell proliferation, cell migration and cell differentiation. DEGs did not cluster into the KEGG pathway. After hub genes validated, nine genes (FLG, COL1A1, COL1A2, PSCA, SCEL, PPL, ACPP, CNFN, and A2ML1) expression trends showed no change.
