Infrared thermography (IRT) for fever screening systems was introduced in not only general hospitals, but also orthopedic hospitals as a countermeasure against the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Despite the widespread use of IRT, various results have shown low and high efficacies, so the utility of IRT is controversial, especially in cold climates. The aims of this study were to investigate the utility of IRT in screening for fever in a cold climate and to devise suitable fever screening in orthopedic surgery for COVID-19.

A total of 390 orthopedic surgery patients were enrolled to the outdoor group and 210 hospital staff members were enrolled to the indoor group. Thermographic temperature at the front of the face in the outdoor group was immediately measured after entering our hospital from a cold outdoor environment. Measurements for the indoor group were made after staying in the hospital (environmental temperature, 28°C) for at least 5h. Body temperature was then measured using an axilCOVID-19, even in orthopedic hospitals.

The two approaches to symptom-cluster research include grouping symptoms and grouping patients. The objective of this systematic review was to examine the conceptual approaches and methodologies used in symptom-cluster research in patients with head and neck cancer.

Articles were retrieved from electronic databases (CINAHL, MEDLINE via Ovid, APA PsycINFO, Scopus, Embase, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials-CENTRAL), five grey literature portals, and Google Scholar. Seventeen studies met the eligibility criteria. Eight studies grouped symptoms to identify symptom clusters, of which two used qualitative methods. The number of symptom clusters ranged from two to five, and the number of symptoms in a cluster ranged from 2 to 11. Nine studies grouped patients based on their experiences with multiple symptoms. Cluster analysis and factor analysis were most commonly used. Despite variable names and composition of symptom clusters, synthesis revealed three prominent symptom clusters general, head and neck cancer-specific, and gastrointestinal. Being female and quality of life were significantly associated with high symptom group or cluster severity. Biological mechanisms were sparsely examined.

Symptom cluster research in head and neck cancer is emerging. Consensus on nomenclature of a symptom cluster will facilitate deduction of core clinically relevant symptom clusters in head and neck cancer. Further research is required on understanding patients' subjective experiences, identifying predictors and outcomes, and underlying mechanisms for symptom clusters.

To evaluate the relationships of sociodemographic and clinical characteristics, symptom burden, and supportive care needs of patients with a prevalence of psychological distress in outpatients with cancer.

The study was carried out with 298 outpatient cancer patients at an oncology center in Turkey, and a descriptive correlational design was used. The data were collected through Hospital Anxiety-Depression Scale (HADS), Nightingale Symptom Assessment Scale (N-SAS), and Supportive Care Needs Scale Short Form (SCNS-SF34). YC1 Descriptive statistics and hierarchical regression analyses were performed.

The study determined that the anxiety and depression scores of a significant portion of cancer patients receiving outpatient treatment were clinically significant. It was observed that the physical and psychological symptom burden of the patients and the increase in unmet care needs related to psychological, physical, and activities of daily life contributed to the development of anxiety and depression. Of the sociodemographic and disease-related characteristics of the patients, female sex was found to be an important factor for both anxiety and depression, and advanced age was found to be an important factor for depression. These results indicate that cancer patients receiving outpatient treatment need intensive supportive psychosocial care.

It is recommended that patients' psychological distress levels and supportive care needs be included in the care process as a routine component of care, as in symptom assessment, and to develop a more sensitive and supportive care environment in meeting psychosocial care needs and accessing support.

The importance of spiritual care for the nursing profession has been long established. In many health care settings, including oncology, patients facing illness, suffering, and imminent death can struggle with existential questions of purpose and meaning-making. Recent research provided a competency-based educational framework to prepare nurses and nursing students to address these spiritual needs.

Traditional treatment programs for substance use disorder (SUD) tend to be male-dominated environments, which can negatively affect women's access to treatment and related outcomes. Women's specific treatment needs have led some providers to develop women-only SUD treatment programs in several countries. In Chile, women-only programs were only fully implemented in 2010. We compared treatment outcomes and readmission risk for adult women admitted to state-funded women-only versus mixed-gender SUD treatment programs in Chile.

We used a registry-based retrospective cohort design of adult women in women-only (N=8200) and mixed-gender (N=13,178) SUD treatment programs from 2010 to 2019. The study obtained data from the National Drug and Alcohol Service from Chile. We used a multistate model to estimate the probabilities of experiencing treatment completion, discharge without completion (i.e., patient-initiated discharge and administrative discharge), or readmission, as well as the likelihood of being readmitteomes and readmission risk, women-only programs had similar results to mixed-gender programs in Chile. The added value of these specialized programs should be addressed in further research.

Ferric chelate reductase 1 like (FRRS1L) encephalopathy is a rare cause of developmental and epileptic encephalopathy. Only a few cases have been reported thus far and seizures tend to be drug refractory. We report an additional case to highlight the good seizure response to sulthiame.

A boy from non-consanguineous parents presented with history of 'abnormal movements' from 7months of age. At one year of age, video electroencephalogram (EEG) monitoring demonstrated the 'abnormal movements' to be clonic seizures. Valproate, lamotrigine and clobazam combination were only partially effective at reducing the seizures. Repeat EEG at 1 year 8months old revealed a continuous spikes-and-waves during slow sleep (CSWS) pattern, prompting a trial of sulthiame. After 2weeks of sulthiame, seizures ceased completely. The clonic seizures recurred at age 4years when sulthiame supply was interrupted, but the seizures promptly remitted following sulthiame's resumption. Subtle choreiform movements appeared from age one year and later became more prominent. Whole exome sequencing (WES) identified a homozygous novel variant (nonsense) in the FRRS1L gene (NM_014334.3 c.670C>Tp.Gln224*). He has been seizure free since 4years of age but remained profoundly delayed.

Its diagnosis is often challenging and delayed because of a several hours' free interval between ingestion of the toxic and the onset of the first symptoms. Ethylene glycol is a colorless and odorless liquid primarily found in automotive coolants, whose toxicity is linked to its hepatic metabolites. Histologically, ethylene glycol poisoning is characterized by abundant tissular deposits of calcium oxalate crystals. Under polarized light, these crystals appear birefringent and iridescent. Their microscopic appearance and their distribution are pathognomonic of oxalosis. Due to its frequent misleading presentation, the diagnosis of ethylene glycol poisoning is sometimes only made after an autopsy. DOI is also important for deciding neck management in superficial tongue cancers. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is mainly used to assess DOI, and in this study we have evaluated the efficacy of MRI to detect it. This is a retrospective study consisting of 60 treatment-naïve tongue cancer patients operated on between July 2017 and June 2019. Patients underwent MR imaging on an Optima MR450W 1.5T unit, and MRI was reported by two experienced ead and eck adiologistss. Postoperative histological DOI was considered the gold standard. The correlation coefficient was derived for postoperative DOI and MRI-detected DOI. A subgroup analysis of superficial tongue cancer was also done. The mean MRI DOI was 13.7 mm and the mean histological DOI 12.45 mm. The shrinkage factor was 0.6 mm. Pearson's correlation coefficient was 0.80 (p= less then 0.001) for Radiologist 1 and 0.
