The multimethod, multi-informant design consisted of three annual measurement occasions. Analysis of maternal and paternal unsupportive parenting as predictors in latent difference changes in children's affect-biased attention and behavior problems indicated that children's attention to negative emotions mediated the specific association between maternal unsupportive parenting and children's subsequent increases in externalizing symptoms. Maternal unsupportive parenting at Wave 1 predicted decreases in children's attention to negative facial expressions of adults from Wave 1 to 2. Black, Asian and minority ethnicity groups may experience better health outcomes when living in areas of high own-group ethnic density - the so-called 'ethnic density' hypothesis. We tested this hypothesis for the treatment outcome of compulsory admission.

Data from the 2010-2011 Mental Health Minimum Dataset (N = 1 053 617) was linked to the 2011 Census and 2010 Index of Multiple Deprivation. Own-group ethnic density was calculated by dividing the number of residents per ethnic group for each lower layer super output area (LSOA) in the Census by the LSOA total population. Multilevel modelling estimated the effect of own-group ethnic density on the risk of compulsory admission by ethnic group (White British, White other, Black, Asian and mixed), accounting for patient characteristics (age and gender), area-level deprivation and population density.

Asian and White British patients experienced a reduced risk of compulsory admission when living in the areas of high own-group ethnic density [odds ratios (OR) 0.97, 95% credible interval (CI) 0.95-0.99 and 0.94, 95% CI 0.93-0.95, respectively], whereas White minority patients were at increased risk when living in neighbourhoods of higher own-group ethnic concentration (OR 1.18, 95% CI 1.11-1.26). Higher levels of own-group ethnic density were associated with an increased risk of compulsory admission for mixed-ethnicity patients, but only when deprivation and population density were excluded from the model. In June 2018, the Ministry of Health received notification from 2 hospitals about 2 patients who presented with overwhelming Enterobacter kobei sepsis that developed within 24 hours after a dental procedure. We describe the investigation of this outbreak.

The epidemiologic investigation included site visits in 2 dental clinics and interviews with all involved healthcare workers. Chart reviews were conducted for case and control subjects. Samples were taken from medications and antiseptics, environmental surfaces, dental water systems, and from the involved healthcare professionals. Isolate similarity was assessed using repetitive element sequence-based polymerase chain reaction (REP-PCR).

The 2 procedures were conducted in different dental clinics by different surgeons and dental technicians. A single anesthesiologist administered the systemic anesthetic in both cases. Cultures from medications, fluids and healthcare workers' hands were negative, but E. kobei was detected from the anesthesiologist's portable medication cart. The 2 human isolates and the environmental isolate shared the same REP-PCR fingerprinting profile. None of the 21 patients treated by the anesthesiologist in a general hospital during the same period, using the hospital's medications, developed infection following surgery.

We conducted a prospective cohort study to compare the prevalence of neurodevelopmental disorders in infants born to mothers with and without HDP at six months of age. Participants attended the Health Observatory of Instituto de Desarrollo e Investigaciones Pediátricas "Prof. Dr. Fernando E. Viteri" during 2018 and 2019. Infant neurodevelopment was assessed with the Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development-Third Edition (Bayley-III). Data were analyzed using Chi-square, Student's t-test and Mann-Whitney test. Of the 132 participating infants, 68 and 64 were born to mothers with and without HDP, respectively. At six months, the prevalence of risk of neurodevelopmental delay was significantly higher in infants born to mothers with than without HDP (27.9% vs. 9.4%; p = 0.008) (odds ratio, 3.71; 95% confidence interval, 1.30; 12.28). We aimed to assess vaccine hesitancy and factors related to it among medical students in India. An online questionnaire was filled by 1068 medical students across 22 states and union territories of India from 2 February to 7 March 2021. Vaccine hesitancy was found among 10.6%. Concern regarding vaccine safety and efficacy, lack of awareness regarding their eligibility for vaccination and lack of trust in government agencies predicted COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among medical students. On the other hand, the presence of risk perception regarding themselves being affected with COVID-19 reduced vaccine hesitancy as well as hesitancy in participating in COVID-19 vaccine trials. Vaccine-hesitant students were more likely to derive information from social media and less likely from teachers at their medical colleges. Choosing between the two available vaccines (Covishield and Covaxin) was considered important by medical students both for themselves and for their future patients. Covishield was preferred to Covaxin by students. Majority of those willing to take the COVID-19 vaccine felt that it was important for them to resume their clinical posting, face-to-face classes and get their personal life back on track. To evaluate the utility of pre-operative transtympanic electrically evoked auditory brainstem responses and post-operative neural response telemetry in auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder patients.

Four auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder patients who had undergone cochlear implantation and used it for more than one year were studied. All four patients underwent pre-operative transtympanic electrically evoked auditory brainstem response testing, intra-operative and post-operative (at 3, 6 and 12 months after switch-on) neural response telemetry, and out-patient cochlear implant electrically evoked auditory brainstem response testing (at 12 months).

Patients with better waveforms on transtympanic electrically evoked auditory brainstem response testing showed superior performance after one year of implant use. Neural response telemetry and electrically evoked auditory brainstem response measures improved in all patients.

Inferences related to cochlear implantation outcomes can be based on the wavefoss in auditory pathways following cochlear implantation.Epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) is an essential biological process, also implicated in pathological settings such as cancer metastasis, in which epithelial cells transdifferentiate into mesenchymal cells. We devised an image analysis pipeline to distinguish between tissues comprised of epithelial and mesenchymal cells, based on extracted features from immunofluorescence images of differing biochemical markers. Mammary epithelial cells were cultured with 0 (control), 2, 4, or 10 ng/mL TGF-β1, a well-established EMT-inducer. Cells were fixed, stained, and imaged for E-cadherin, actin, fibronectin, and nuclei via immunofluorescence microscopy. Feature selection was performed on different combinations of individual cell markers using a Bag-of-Features extraction. Control and high-dose images comprised the training data set, and the intermediate dose images comprised the testing data set. A feature distance analysis was performed to quantify differences between the treatment groups. The pipeline was successful in distinguishing between control (epithelial) and the high-dose (mesenchymal) groups, as well as demonstrating progress along the EMT process in the intermediate dose groups. Validation using quantitative PCR (qPCR) demonstrated that biomarker expression measurements were well-correlated with the feature distance analysis. Overall, we identified image pipeline characteristics for feature extraction and quantification of immunofluorescence images to distinguish progression of EMT.
