AFM is a scanning probe technique and uses a pyramidal tip attached to a flexible cantilever to scan across a surface, producing a highly detailed image. While many research articles include AFM images, fewer include force-distance curves, from which several biophysical properties can be determined. In a single force-distance curve, the cantilever is lowered and raised from the surface, while the forces between the tip and the surface are monitored. Modern AFM has a wide variety of applications, but this review will focus on exploring the mechanobiology of microbes, which we believe is of particular interest to those studying biomaterials. We briefly discuss experimental design as well as different ways of extracting meaningful values related to cell surface elasticity, cell stiffness, and cell adhesion from force-distance curves. We also highlight both classic and recent experiments using AFM to illuminate microbial biophysical properties.

Obstructed total anomalous pulmonary venous connection (TAPVC) is one of the commonest seen emergencies in pediatric cardiology centers.

Our case was diagnosed to have this anomaly, showing early respiratory distress resulting from severe pulmonary congestion. Palliative stenting of the obstruction was done, which helped in stabilizing the debilitated hemodynamics of the baby before surgery, thus a good surgical outcome and prognosis are expected.

Currently, interventions for children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) in China are mainly carried out by professionals in rehabilitation institutions and special schools. However, when autistic children are older, they do not receive effective training and treatment, and there is no specific place in society to accommodate autistic adults. Mental hospitals are usually their ultimate home.

We report a 22-year-old male with ASD. The manifestation and/or intervention from the age of 3 years to now were recorded. He has been hospitalized in the closed ward of a mental hospital since 2015.

First, studies of online guidance training are needed to implement technology that can help more patients. Second, the future integration of HRT and other technologies is important. Third, imaging techniques could be used to further explore the brain mechanisms underlying HRT. Research on HRT for TD in China is insufficient. We call on more Chinese researchers to study, investigate, and develop technology to promote the development of behavioral psychotherapy for TD in China.
