The opposite response was observed for the wettest site at the highest elevation, which positively reacts to increased summer temperature and will most likely benefit from a warming climate. For all other sites, the future radial growth of Norway spruce largely depends on the balance between spring precipitation and summer temperature.
In living liver donors with rare anatomical anomaly of right-sided ligamentum teres (RSLT), right or left hemiliver procurement is commonly contraindicated. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the hepatic volume profiles in potential donors with RSLT using semi-automated CT volumetry (CTV).
Among 5535 potential donor candidates in our institution between April 2003 and May 2019, 23 cases of RSLT (0.4%) were included. Proportional liver volumes were measured using semi-automated CTV and compared with those of manual volumetry and intraoperative graft weights (seven surgical cases).
The mean percentage volume of the right posterior section was significantly larger than that of the left hemiliver (38.5 ± 8.4% vs. 23.3 ± 5.7%, P < 0.001). Particularly in independent right lateral type, the mean percentage volume of the right posterior section was about two times larger to that of the left hemiliver (41.5% ± 6.5% vs. 21.9% ± 4.4%, P < 0.001), whereas the volume proportions of these two parts were similar between the two parts in bifurcation and trifurcation types (P = 0.810 and 0.979, respectively). Semi-automated CTV of corresponding whole liver, right posterior section, right anterior section, and left hemiliver showed strong correlations with manual CTV (r = 0.989-0.998; P < 0.001). For the seven surgical cases, the graft weights estimated by semi-automated CTV showed a significant correlation with intraoperative graft weights (r = 0.972; P < 0.001).
In independent right lateral type of RSLT, the right posterior section tends to be significantly larger than left hemiliver, and may be an alternative option for graft in potential living liver donors with this rare anatomical anomaly.

As part of the general surgery rotation, medical students are invited to scrub in to assist with surgeries-a chance to simultaneously gain medical knowledge while developing technical skills. They learn that there is a possibility of inflicting harm to the patient at every step of any surgery; from making the first skin incision to tying up the final suture, the importance of staying alert is emphasized until the patient is transferred out of the operating room in stable condition. However, the obligation of a physician to do no harm extends beyond the surgery. In this reflection, a third year medical student discusses her experience during an hours-long Whipple procedure. She reflects on the impact of a cancer diagnosis on a patient's identity and narrative and comments on the necessity of maintaining a balance between offering medical guidance to patients and offering the space for them to express their unique illness experience. The recyclability of cellulase enzymes using zeolite and polyethylene glycol (PEG) was investigated. The cellulase enzymes from cellulose hydrolysate suspensions were adsorbed onto zeolite-β under typical working conditions (pH 5). PEG having a molecular weight of 200 Da and 20 kDa was used as an eluent to desorb the cellulase enzymes from zeolite-β. Adsorption and desorption profiles of cellulase enzymes were studied by varying pH, PEG concentration, and salt concentration. Maximum binding capacity, qm of the zeolite decreased by increasing the pH, or by introducing PEG. At pH 5, the qm of the zeolite was determined to be 121 × 10-3 g/g. About 24%, 51% and 75% of the adsorbed enzyme can be recovered using 1 M NaCl, PEG 200 and PEG 20000, respectively. The specific activity of the recovered enzyme increased by 57% due to the presence of residual PEG.Owls are predators that perform important ecological functions. There are several threats to owl conservation such as the bioaccumulation of chemicals through environmental contamination. The high probability of bioaccumulation in these animals is related to their role as predators and high trophic positions. The objective of this study was to quantify four elements (cadmium, chromium, nickel, and lead) as the biomarkers of environmental exposure in owls. To this end, we analyzed pellets and feathers of different owl species. SBFI26 These matrices were contaminated with all four elements, with chromium most commonly detected. Chromium and nickel were found in the pellets in all 10 months of the study, and May was the month with the highest concentrations of all the elements. Tyto furcata appears to bioaccumulate more elements in its feathers than Megascops spp. and Athene cunicularia. Our findings showed bioaccumulation of these four elements in owls and their environment.Acute aortic syndrome, aortic aneurysm and stenotic aortic disease are significant challenges for state-of-the art imaging of the aorta. Over the last decade, advanced imaging methods such as multidetector computed tomography, high-resolution ultrasound including color-coded Doppler and contrast-enhanced B-mode imaging and magnetic resonance imaging have assumed an important role in identifying and describing many of the complex aortic pathologies. They play a fundamental role in decision making for treatment such as endovascular, or open surgical or conservative treatment. In this overview, a systematic description of all present imaging modalities is presented and their respective roles for the entire spectrum of aortic diseases are illustrated and defined in their relevance. Furthermore, future aspects such as virtual reality methods are presented.
