tion to antimicrobial prophylaxis is promising in providing insights to redefine the risk-benefit accounts of using prophylaxis.

Repeat preoperative endoscopy is common for patients with colorectal neoplasms. This can result in treatment delays, patient discomfort, and risks of colonoscopy-related complications. Repeat preoperative endoscopy has been attributed to poor communication between endoscopists and surgeons. In January 2019, mandatory electronic synoptic reporting for endoscopy was implemented to include elements consistent with quality indicators proposed in national guidelines. The aim of the present study is to assess whether the repeat preoperative endoscopy rate for colorectal lesions changed following synoptic report implementation.

A retrospective review was performed of 1690 consecutive patients who underwent elective surgical resection for colorectal neoplasms from January 2007 to June 2020 at a tertiary hospital in Canada. Patients who had an index endoscopy documented via synoptic report were compared to those reported via narrative report. Primary outcomes were rates of repeat preoperative endoscopy and inclusire-operative endoscopy at a high-volume colorectal cancer centre. Future study should examine guideline deficiencies for this purpose and make necessary modifications.

Endoscopy synoptic reports based on current guidelines were not associated with a decrease in rates of repeat pre-operative endoscopy at a high-volume colorectal cancer centre. Future study should examine guideline deficiencies for this purpose and make necessary modifications.

The European Association of Endoscopic Surgery (EAES) fellowship programme was established in 2014, allowing nine surgeons annually to obtain experience and skills in minimally invasive surgery (MIS) from specialist centres across the Europe and United States. It aligns with the strategic focus of EAES Education and Training Committee on enabling Learning Mobility opportunities. To assess the impact of the programme, a survey was conducted aiming to evaluate the experience and impact of the programme and receive feedback for improvements.

A survey using a 5-point Likert scale was used to evaluate clinical, education and research experience. The impact on acquisition of new technical skills, change in clinical practice and ongoing collaboration with the host institute was assessed. The fellows selected between 2014 and 2018 were included. Ratings were analysed in percentage; thematic analysis was applied to the free-text feedbacks using qualitative analysis.

All the fellows had good access to observing isearch.

EAES fellowship programme has shown a positive impact on acquiring and adopting new MIS techniques. To further refine the programme, an individualised approach should be adopted to set achievable learning objectives in clinical skills, education and research.

Within surgery, assistive robotic devices (ARD) have reported improved patient outcomes. ARD can offer the surgical team a "third hand" to perform wider tasks and more degrees of motion in comparison with conventional laparoscopy. We test an eye-tracking based robotic scrub nurse (RSN) in a simulated operating room based on a novel real-time framework for theatre-wide 3D gaze localization in a mobile fashion.

Surgeons performed segmental resection of pig colon and handsewn end-to-end anastomosis while wearing eye-tracking glasses (ETG) assisted by distributed RGB-D motion sensors. To select instruments, surgeons (ST) fixed their gaze on a screen, initiating the RSN to pick up and transfer the item. Comparison was made between the task with the assistance of a human scrub nurse (HSNt) versus the task with the assistance of robotic and human scrub nurse (R&HSNt). selleck inhibitor Task load (NASA-TLX), technology acceptance (Van der Laan's), metric data on performance and team communication were measured.

Overall, 10 ST participated. NASA-TLX feedback for ST on HSNt vs R&HSNt usage revealed no significant difference in mental, physical or temporal demands and no change in task performance. ST reported significantly higher frustration score with R&HSNt. Van der Laan's scores showed positive usefulness and satisfaction scores in using the RSN. No significant difference in operating time was observed.

We report initial findings of our eye-tracking based RSN. This enables mobile, unrestricted hands-free human-robot interaction intra-operatively. Importantly, this platform is deemed non-inferior to HSNt and accepted by ST and HSN test users.

Choledocholithiasis is a commonly encountered disease that is associated with various clinical presentations ranging from mild form of biliary colic to severe life-threatening acute cholangitis. Recently, peri-ampullary diverticulum (PAD) has been linked to the development of biliary diseases; however, data regarding its association with the development of acute cholangitis in the setting of choledocholithiasis are scarce.

We aimed to identify predictors, specifically PAD, for the development of acute cholangitis in patients with choledocholithiasis.

We performed a retrospective cross-sectional study of all patients admitted to Galilee Medical Center from 1 January 2010 to 31 December 2019 with different clinical presentations of documented choledocholithiasis including cholangitis, biliary pancreatitis, and biliary colic with abnormal liver enzymes.

Overall, 651 patients were included in the final analysis. Among them, 88 patients (13.5%) had choledocholithiasis associated with acute cholangitis (groance since early diagnosis and treatment might prevent further life-threatening complications.

PAD showed a significant association with the development of acute cholangitis among patients with choledocholithiasis. Identification of gallbladder and biliary stones in patients with PAD is of paramount importance since early diagnosis and treatment might prevent further life-threatening complications.
