The yeast community structure associated with grapes is an essential part of the wine-growing chain with a significant effect on wine quality. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of the varietal factor on the yeast community assembly on grapes and during must fermentation.

We analysed the wine yeast populations associated with four different grape varieties from the Greek national collection vineyard of Lykovryssi. The vintage effect was also considered by sampling the grapes for two consecutive years. Fourteen yeast species were recovered and genotyped to distinct subpopulations. A relatively stable yeast community structure was detected across vintages, with Hanseniaspora guilliermondii being the core species of the vineyard under study. The detected species subpopulations shared a relatively high genetic similarity with several genotypes persisting across vintages.

It was shown that different grape cultivars were associated with distinct yeast communities, pointing to their possible implication on wine chemical diversity.

Identifying appropriate sentinels that reflect bioavailability is critical to assessing and managing aquatic ecosystems impacted by contaminants. The objective of the present study is to review research on riparian spiders as sentinels of persistent and bioavailable chemical contaminants in aquatic ecosystems. Our review of the literature on riparian spiders as sentinels suggests that significant progress has been made during the last two decades of research. We identified 55 published studies conducted around the world in which riparian spiders (primarily of the families Tetragnathidae, Araneidae, Lycosidae, and Pisauridae) were used as sentinels of chemical contamination of lotic, lentic, and estuarine systems. For several contaminants, such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), Hg, and Se, it is now clear that riparian spiders are appropriate sentinels. However, many contaminants and factors that could impact chemical concentrations in riparian spiders have not been well characterized. Further study of riparian spiders and their potential role as sentinels is critical because it would allow for development of national-scale programs that utilize riparian spiders as sentinels to monitor chemical contaminants in aquatic ecosystems. A riparian spider sentinel program in the United States would be complementary to existing national sentinel programs, including those for fish and immature dragonflies. The Japanese guidelines for the treatment of cirrhosis suggest zinc supplementation to prevent hepatic encephalopathy in patients with cirrhosis and zinc deficiency, although the factors that are associated with therapeutic efficacy remain unknown.

A total of 159 patients with chronic liver diseases but without previous zinc supplementation were analyzed. Factors associated with serum zinc levels as well as the therapeutic efficacy of zinc supplementation were evaluated.

Serum zinc levels decreased with the progression of liver diseases. A multiple linear regression analysis revealed that the serum levels of albumin and cholinesterase and the daily furosemide dose were independently associated with the serum zinc levels. The optimal furosemide cut-off dosage for patients with zinc deficiency (<60μg/dl) was 5mg/day. Among 34 patients receiving zinc acetate hydrate, overt hepatic encephalopathy occurred in 12 patients (35.4%). A multivariate analysis identified a minimal serum zinc level of 50μg/dl aftring zinc supplementation in both patients with and those without furosemide administration.

Cheilitis Glandularis (CG) is an uncommon entity of obscure etiology. A cases series is presented with emphasis on etiopathogenesis.

Fourteen CG cases were analyzed according to their demographic and clinicopathologic characteristics.

The mean age of the patients with CG was 68.1years, while a male-to-female ratio of 1.81 was observed. One or more potential causative factors were identified for each patient, including long-term smoking (9 cases), xerostomia (4 cases), cosmetic filler injections (2 cases), and actinic cheilitis (1 case). The lesions were located on the lips, buccal mucosa, or both in 7, 2, and 5 cases, respectively. Multiple submucosal nodules with dilated ductal orifices and mucous or purulent discharge were observed in all cases. Histopathologically, ductal ectasia with metaplasia, intraductal mucin, and chronic or mixed inflammation were noted, as well as pools of hyaluronic acid in 2 cases with a history of cosmetic filler injections.

No prospective studies with serial follow-up scans exist.

To compare WBLDCT to CSS for identifying progressive bone disease in MM in a prospective setting.

Ninety-six patients with MM at Odense University Hospital and Stavanger Hospital were followed for up to four years. Patients were scanned with WBLDCT and CSS every year for the first two years and every six months thereafter or at suspicion of progression.

Nineteen cases of progressive bone disease were found using WBLDCT vs eight cases using CSS (p<0.001). All cases of progressive bone disease using CSS were also identified by WBLDCT. Progression not found by CSS was primarily in the spine, sternum, and pelvis. Of the 19 cases, five patients had progressive bone disease only without other criteria for clinical progression. WBLDCT consistently identified more bone lesions per patient, 8.2 CI(6.8;9.6) vs CSS, 3.6 CI(2.7;4.5).

WBLDCT outperformed CSS for finding progressive bone disease and osteolytic lesions. More new lesions were found during follow-up by WBLDCT than CSS. To assess the accuracy of a real-time dynamic navigation system applied in zygomatic implant (ZI) surgery and summarize device-related negative events and their management.

Patients who presented with severely maxillary atrophy or maxillary defects and received dynamic navigation-supported ZI surgery were included. The deviations of entry, exit, and angle were measured after image data fusion. A linear mixed-effects model was used. Statistical significance was defined as p<.05. Device-related negative events and their management were also recorded and analyzed.

Two hundred and thirty-one zygomatic implants (ZIs) with navigation-guided placement were planned in 74 consecutive patients between Jan 2015 and Aug 2020. Among them, 71 patients with 221 ZIs received navigation-guided surgery finally. The deviations in entry, exit, and angle were 1.57±0.71mm, 2.1±0.94mm and 2.68±1.25degrees, respectively. Significant differences were found in entry and exit deviation according to the number of ZIs in the zygomata (p=.03 and .00, respectively). Patients with atrophic maxillary or maxillary defects showed a significant difference in exit deviation (p=.01). A total of 28 device-related negative events occurred, and one resulted in 2 ZI failures due to implant malposition. The overall survival rate of ZIs was 98.64%, and the mean follow-up time was 24.11months (Standard Deviation [SD] 12.62).

However, relevant technical negative events in the navigation process are worthy of attention.In fabricating an artificial photosynthesis (AP) electrode for water oxidation, we have devised a semiconductor-mediator-catalyst structure that mimics photosystem II (PSII). It is based on a surface layer of vertically grown nanorods of Fe2 O3 on fluorine doped tin oxide (FTO) electrodes with a carbazole mediator base and a Ru(II) carbene complex on a nanolayer of TiO2 as a water oxidation co-catalyst. The resulting hybrid assembly, FTO|Fe2 O3 |-carbazole|TiO2 |-Ru(carbene), demonstrates an enhanced photoelectrochemical (PEC) water oxidation performance compared to an electrode without the added carbaozle base with an increase in photocurrent density of 2.2-fold at 0.95 V vs. NHE and a negatively shifted onset potential of 500 mV. The enhanced PEC performance is attributable to carbazole mediator accelerated interfacial hole transfer from Fe2 O3 to the Ru(II) carbene co-catalyst, with an improved effective surface area for the water oxidation reaction and reduced charge transfer resistance.
